Tahthastu (2006): Poverty can be a direct abettor behind any crime, this is the basic tenet around which the story of Tathastu revolves. The plot is built around its central character Ravi Rajput (Sanjay Dutt), who's an honest and noble man, but not very well off financially. His bleak financial condition is really put to test when his son's taken ill and is in need of a heart transplant surgery which costs a hefty 15 lakh rupees. The hospital staff tell Ravi that they can operate on his son only when he pays them the said money in advance. Unable to arrange the money required, Ravi holds 30 people hostage in the hospital, and agrees to release them only if his son's operation is underway at the hospital. Will Ravi's act bear the result he requires? Watch this exceptional movie to find out!

26:34Ravi, the company can't even pay ten lakhs to the officer.
26:37Sir, my child's life is in danger.
26:40I'll work hard and pay the money one by one, sir.
26:44Ravi, I'm sorry.
26:47Really, I can't do this.
26:48Sir, please try.
26:51Believe me, Ravi.
26:53Believe me.
26:54I'm sorry.
27:14Don't worry, Ravi.
27:16Our union will invest ten lakhs for your child's treatment.
27:22Is there no other way, Mangesh?
27:24Don't worry.
27:25You'll get the money for your child's treatment.
27:28You don't have to talk to Bhatia for that.
27:31I'll talk to the GM myself.
27:32Come with me.
27:54Let him listen.
28:05Papa, you're back.
28:07Yes, son.
28:08I troubled you both, didn't I?
28:11Son, it's nothing like that.
28:13You're a child.
28:15And a child is bound to get sick.
28:17And then we take him to the doctor.
28:20And then he's treated.
28:23The doctor will tell him right away.
28:24Mummy, God gets angry if you lie, doesn't he?
28:29Papa, I want to stay with you.
28:33I won't leave you and go anywhere.
28:37Where are you going?
28:40I'll take you with me.
28:42Get well.
28:46And if you say that again,
28:49Papa will get angry with you.
28:53You're my responsibility.
28:56I want you to get well.
28:59I want you to stay with me, okay?
29:02You have to stay with me.
29:04I want you to stay with me, okay?
29:11What's the matter with her?
29:15What's the matter with her?
29:17Nothing, dear.
29:18She's sleeping, right?
29:20She'll get well soon.
29:23He won't get better. I won't let anything happen to him.
29:27And you...
29:30...you always cry.
29:32You don't trust me either.
29:35I trust you.
29:37Doctors and hospitals are on one side.
29:39And you're on the other.
29:40If you...
29:42If you lose hope like this, what will happen to me?
29:46He'll get better, Ravi.
29:49He'll get better.
29:50He'll get better.
29:54He'll get better.
29:57Nothing will happen to him.
30:24Ravi, you've been sanctioned a loan of only 75,000 rupees.
30:26What?
30:28What will 75,000 do?
30:30How will his child get operated?
30:34Look, the GM has clearly said that...
30:36...the company can't do anything more than this.
30:44Ravi, you'll have to sign these papers.
30:47If that's the case, Manager...
30:49...then tell me what's written in these papers.
30:53Look, Ravi can't leave this company for 12 years and go anywhere.
30:58Every day, Ravi will have to work overtime for four hours.
31:02And every month...
31:03...one thousand rupees will be deducted from his salary.
31:07I'll announce the strike tomorrow.
31:09I'll show you.
31:10Come, Ravi. Come.
31:11Come.
31:16Ravi, don't sign these papers. Please, Ravi.
31:20Ravi.
31:23Ravi.
31:35Yes, yes. When did I say no?
31:36I said I will help him.
31:38That means...
31:39Look, now Dinesh is asking me how this is possible.
31:42How can you do this in seven days?
31:44Sir, sorry, sir. When will I get the papers?
31:46Look, your file is ready.
31:48But sir is a little busy. Someone has come.
31:49I'll do this today. Don't worry.
31:50Why did you make an ad?
31:52Look, this is a logo, not a promenade.
31:55I know. But it's about my job.
31:57Yes. No, no.
31:58Now, it can't be done in seven days.
32:00It will take a month.
32:01You tell him.
32:03What can I do?
32:04No, no. You tell him. Please.
32:07Okay?
32:13Hey, listen. Where are you going?
32:14I wanted to add one more line. Rest assured.
32:16Where is the line?
32:18Yes.
32:18I want to sign this file, sir.
32:20What are you doing?
32:21Sir, what?
32:22Sorry, sir.
32:23I know, sir.
32:24I'm in a hurry, sir.
32:26Okay, what is the case? What is the matter?
32:27Sir, I want to renew the policy.
32:29I have paid the late fees and everything.
32:31I want a sign in this, sir.
32:32I want to deliver the policy, sir.
32:33You want to deliver the policy?
32:36Where do you want to deliver the policy?
32:40Sir, you are a big officer. I won't lie to you, sir.
32:43Sir, my son is sick. I want to get him operated.
32:46Your son is in the hospital?
32:47Your son is in the hospital?
32:48And you didn't tell me?
32:49There are a lot of foreignities for him.
32:50Come on, I'll explain.
32:51Sir, I've been paying the premium for the child for seven years.
32:55If I need it now, won't you support me?
32:57No, you don't understand.
32:58If the child is sick, you have to give his health certificate.
33:00Come on.
33:00Sir, I've never been late for seven years.
33:03A friend had a problem. I helped him.
33:05I sold the motorcycle to renew the policy.
33:07You are too much.
33:08First, you don't pay the premium on time.
33:09And on top of that, you lie.
33:10I'm not lying.
33:11Sir.
33:12I'm not lying, sir.
33:14Mr. Ravi, look at this.
33:16This is the insurance policy renewal form.
33:18In clause number five, it's clearly written
33:20that if the company wants, they can ask for the child's health certificate.
33:23Yes.
33:24No, we have no objection to renewing it.
33:26Yes.
33:27Just bring the child's health certificate.
33:30But it's important that the child thinks thoroughly before renewing it.
33:40Sir, what is this?
33:41Sorry.
33:42Mr. Mangesh.
33:46Mr. Mangesh.
33:48Yes, Ravi.
33:55I met Mr. Praveen.
33:59But he wants such a guarantee that...
34:01I don't know what to say.
34:42Good evening.
34:43Good evening, sir.
34:58I have a feeling that the money won't be deposited.
35:04It's simple.
35:13It's strange.
35:14Very sad.
35:17As per the rules, we have given two days to deposit the money.
35:20If we can't deposit it,
35:22then someone has to give it to someone.
35:27Sir.
35:29I don't know why I feel that the child should get the money.
35:33Dr. Neeta.
35:35The rules are for the strong.
35:38And the heart is for the weak.
35:41They are two different languages.
35:44Since they are two different languages, how can one thing be the same?
35:48May I come in, sir?
35:50Come in, Mr. Rajput. Come in.
35:56You wanted to meet me?
35:57Yes, sir.
35:58Please sit.
36:04Sir, the money will be arranged by morning.
36:07You prepare for the operation.
36:11I will prepare for the operation in an hour.
36:14As soon as the money is deposited, we will start the operation in an hour.
36:19But one thing.
36:20If the money is not deposited by tomorrow evening,
36:23then we will have to discharge your son.
36:27How can we discharge him, sir?
36:29He is my eight-year-old son.
36:31Fear God, sir.
36:33How will I perform the operation if I fear God, Mr. Rajput?
36:36My hands will tremble at the operation table.
36:39We fight with God in the operation theatre.
36:43Then we snatch the patient's life from his hands.
36:47If I fear him,
36:49I will have to listen to him that the time has come for the patient.
36:53Sir, you perform so many operations.
36:55You earn lakhs of rupees.
36:57Sir, one operation for free.
36:59Not for free, sir.
37:00I will pay you every penny.
37:02Please sit.
37:04Please sit down.
37:08Okay, I will perform the operation for free.
37:11I will do it.
37:12But I am not alone, Mr. Rajput.
37:15There is a whole team of doctors in this operation.
37:18Will you ask them to perform the operation for free?
37:22And the medicines, operation theatre charges, nurses,
37:25and Dr. Smith who are coming for your operation.
37:29Will I ask them to perform the operation for free?
37:32Whom will you ask to perform the operation for free?
37:36I will perform the operation for free.
37:39Go and tell them to perform the operation for free.
37:44Ravi, you don't have time.
37:47If the money is not deposited by tomorrow evening,
37:51it will be impossible to save the child whether he is discharged or not.
37:55And then, it doesn't matter what I want or what Dr. Neeta wants.
38:03Arrange the money.
38:06Before it is too late.
38:13The money will be arranged by tomorrow, sir.
38:17It will be done.
38:20It will never be late, sir.
39:36Let's go.
39:52Excuse me. Do you have coins?
39:53Sorry, sir. You can take from them.
40:00Do you have coins, sir?
40:02Yes.
40:05Oh, coin.
40:07No, no, it's okay.
40:17What does Dr. Sen say?
40:22Nothing, till morning...
40:24If the money is not arranged, we will discharge it.
40:28What happened to the money?
40:30By tomorrow, everything will be done.
40:32By tomorrow, everything will be done.
40:37Whom are you fooling?
40:40Yourself or me?
40:43In one night,
40:45if you had the capacity to arrange 15 lakhs,
40:49wouldn't you have brought it by now?
40:51You would have brought it like this.
40:54It's a matter of a child's life.
40:58If you listen to me,
41:00in one night,
41:02take him to a municipality hospital.
41:04Maybe something will happen there.
41:08Nothing will happen here without the money.
41:16Nothing will happen without the money?
41:19I mean, we will discharge it in the afternoon.
41:23Will you discharge my son without treatment?
41:26We will discharge all the machines and pipes.
41:31Then you can run away with your son.
41:34Who will discharge the pipes and machines?
41:38The order will come from above.
41:40We will have to discharge it.
41:41You will discharge the machines?
41:42You will discharge it?
41:43Ravi!
41:44I will stand and watch.
41:45What are you doing?
41:46What are you doing, Ravi?
41:47What is his fault in this?
41:48Why will people operate without money?
41:50As it is, you keep saying everyday,
41:52I will bring the money tomorrow.
41:53I will arrange it tomorrow.
41:54But nothing happened.
41:56Why will people operate?
41:59I want my son, Ravi.
42:01I want my son.
42:03When I had a job worth Rs. 2000,
42:05when I used to get Rs. 2000,
42:06I used to run a house in that.
42:08When I had a pain worth Rs. 4000,
42:09I used to run a house in that.
42:10I never complained.
42:11I never complained, Ravi.
42:13But today, I want my son.
42:15I want my son, Ravi.
42:18I want my son, Ravi.
42:22I want my son.
42:24I want my son's life, Ravi.
42:52Today, I will take whatever I want from your doorstep.
42:57Today, I will take whatever I want from your doorstep.
43:02Today, I will take whatever I want from your doorstep.
43:07Today, I will take whatever I want from your doorstep.
