00:00So, State of Play has hit, and a lot of it has hit hard.
00:05Most of the stuff we have to talk about looks pretty sweet to me, but this State of Play
00:09was not without its controversy, so without any further ado, hi folks, it's Falcon and
00:13today on Gameranx, 10 big new PlayStation State of Play reveals in 2024.
00:18At number 10 is Hell is Us.
00:21What looks like Dark Souls against the Sonic Frontiers enemies is probably going to be
00:26a lot better than that.
00:27We saw gameplay, and honestly, I'm extremely intrigued.
00:30I'm also joking about the bad guys being the bad guys from Sonic Frontiers.
00:36They are actually terrifying, but kind of have that aesthetic.
00:40Seriously, I've had nightmares about things that look exactly like this, so, fun!
00:45Like that a lot.
00:46Get to play a video game against nightmares I've had.
00:49The trailer, while actually a gameplay trailer, does probably a better job of setting up a
00:54world and premise than most trailers I have seen lately.
00:59What we have is a surrealist action game that focuses on melee combat.
01:04I hesitate to call it a Souls-like, even though I have seen several articles call it such.
01:09It looks a little different to me.
01:11There's also a focus on exploration.
01:13The marketing materials for Hell is Us regard it as an action-adventure game, which is not
01:18really what I consider a Souls game to be, so I don't know.
01:22I don't know exactly where to classify this if it fits in the subgenre or if it's something
01:26different altogether.
01:28I think it's got enough going for it that it feels different.
01:32I'm only mentioning this stuff because I've seen other people mention it.
01:35I wasn't immediately struck as, oh, look at this Souls-like.
01:38It has too much of a plot from the looks.
01:40Not that there's no plot in a Souls-like game, but generally those games are more environmental
01:46storytelling and this looks like you got a serious thing going on, you know?
01:52It's so silly that's how you would describe something unique about a game at this point.
01:57Because it sounds like such a dunk on the Souls-like genre, and it's not at all.
02:01But I'm intrigued.
02:02I like the idea of a surrealist game that doesn't lean too hard on a novel art style.
02:07Really, most of it, aside from the bad guys, is pretty normal looking.
02:12And the bad guys actually kind of remind me of some Control stuff.
02:16I don't know.
02:17I'm fairly excited about this one.
02:19It definitely roped me in.
02:20We don't have a release date.
02:22It's obviously a PlayStation 5 game and it's coming out next year sometime.
02:26Moving on to number nine, here's where the controversy starts a little bit.
02:30So they're releasing a Chroma collection, which is a couple of new controllers and console
02:36covers for the PS5.
02:38Now if you're a fan of those reflective paint jobs that look like different colors from
02:42different angles, you're going to love this.
02:44I think they look cool.
02:46I grew up in the 1990s.
02:47That's when that stuff was cool.
02:49Your mileage may vary.
02:50I don't know.
02:52But that's not what the controversy is.
02:53The Chroma collection is not going to be available for the launch PS5.
02:57And it kind of highlights the fact that the PlayStation 5 launch edition really hasn't
03:02gotten that kind of attention.
03:04Now to be fair, there is positive response for these colors.
03:07I'm not saying that these are like hated.
03:10They're not.
03:11It is a cool announcement.
03:12I do like what they look like, but they're marred in the comment section of their announcement
03:17with people pretty not happy about the fact that these cool covers are only available
03:23for the PlayStation 5 Slim owners, which is, by the way, somewhere in the neighborhood
03:27of 16, 17 million people.
03:30Don't get me wrong.
03:31Lots of people.
03:32But there are 45 million people who own the launch PlayStation 5 console, which is a significantly
03:38larger number of people.
03:39And thus, when they see a smaller group being catered to, it makes them not happy.
03:45Now, the ideal solution to this situation is for Sony to put these covers out for the
03:50launch edition of the console as well.
03:52But also, maybe they don't want to.
03:54Maybe they want to produce less of them and sell them easier.
03:57I don't know.
03:58There's probably a reason.
04:00Technically, the original PS5 is not being manufactured anymore.
04:05But people who supported the PS5 from day one feel a little shortchanged.
04:10That being said, I do want to say I think that they're cool covers.
04:15I'm talking about it this way because I think that it's only fair.
04:18I don't have an original PS5.
04:20I'm not sure if I'm going to buy these yet because I got my eye on that 30th anniversary
04:27edition.
04:28If I'm going to do anything crazy about the appearance, I'm hoping maybe somebody makes
04:33a cover that looks like the 30th anniversary edition so I don't have to buy a really overpriced
04:39PS5 to get it.
04:41But we'll see.
04:42But obviously, everybody who both owns the PS5 Slim and likes those multicolor paints,
04:48you got a great product coming up.
04:50At number eight is the Stellar Blade Nier Automata DLC.
04:54So let's get into some more straightforwardly awesome stuff.
04:58Right.
04:59So there is Stellar Blade DLC and updates.
05:02They range from a photo studio.
05:05When I say photo studio, I say that as in it's much more than a photo mode.
05:10And also a Nier Automata collaboration.
05:14The photo mode's kind of nuts.
05:15Like you go way further than your average photo mode.
05:18You can pose the characters.
05:20You can put expressions on their faces, et cetera, et cetera.
05:24It's way more than you would normally expect.
05:27But what is probably cooler for somebody like myself, a big fan of Nier Automata.
05:31In all seriousness, this is a game that Stellar Blade got a massive amount of comparison to,
05:36even though they're actually pretty different games.
05:38Now the nature of the Nier Automata stuff, I will say we don't know the full extent of.
05:43It looks like it might be content where you play something from Nier Automata with the
05:48Stellar Blade mechanics.
05:51I'm not really 100% sure.
05:53We do see 2B facing over what looks like the Crumbled Amusement Park from Nier Automata.
05:59I don't know exactly what that means.
06:02Are they going to put the Nier Automata aesthetic over some areas of Stellar Blade or are we
06:08getting a full new area?
06:10We'll see.
06:11It's awesome nonetheless.
06:13There's also, you're going to be able to buy the soundtrack for Stellar Blade, which is
06:17a very good soundtrack.
06:19It is a lot of tracks also.
06:21It's over 180 of them and I will certainly be picking that up.
06:25At number 7, this one I'm pretty happy about, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered.
06:30Horizon Zero Dawn is a good game.
06:32Horizon Forbidden West is a big upgrade and Burning Shores, the DLC, kind of takes us
06:37to a place where it makes the original Horizon look rudimentary and no longer.
06:43This remaster looks fan-freaking-tastic.
06:46The trailer contains basically a list of things that they've done to make things look better.
06:51Textures, models, blah, blah, blah.
06:53I think that it's just obvious looking at it that it looks significantly nicer than
06:58the original Horizon Zero Dawn, particularly the character models.
07:01The original of those games, character models kind of got some criticism as toe face.
07:07They had a bit of that toe face, the big toe face going on and I think they fixed that
07:12here.
07:13It looks much more consistent with the more recent Horizon game or if you consider Burning
07:19Shores a separate game, and I kind of do, games.
07:22I mean it's not like they've done a huge amount of stuff to these models, but even
07:26subtle changes do a fair amount in my opinion.
07:29Like if you look at side by side of the character models from the original to this trailer,
07:35definitely improved.
07:37Adult Aloy in particular, like that is kind of a night and day one.
07:42The thing is, the original didn't look bad in any way and I never actually thought, you
07:46know what really needs a remaster?
07:49It's Horizon Zero Dawn.
07:51But seeing the footage that we've seen captured on PS5 here, yes, it absolutely needed a remaster.
07:57I can't wait to play it again honestly because it looks just stunning.
08:01This one's not far off either.
08:03It's coming Halloween this year.
08:05Pre-orders are open.
08:07It's been nice to see Sony kind of actually developing on the Horizon brand.
08:11I think that it kind of got ignored a little bit when it first came out by a lot of people.
08:17The toe faces I think didn't help.
08:19This is a good choice and I do hope that it is well received because I would like to
08:23see them remaster more games.
08:25Bloodborne, for instance, would love to see Bloodborne, but yeah, this looks good.
08:30At number six, we got some pretty sweet new footage of Monster Hunter Wilds and a release
08:35date.
08:36We saw a lot of interesting new environments, some big new monsters, but frankly we've already
08:41been impressed by this new Monster Hunter game plenty.
08:45We're way past the shut up and take my money stage of this one, are we not?
08:48I would assume so.
08:50So when's it coming out?
08:51When can I buy this thing?
08:52When is it going to get into my grubby hands for me to play?
08:56Well, Capcom finally told us it's coming out February 28th next year and pre-orders are
09:02open and this is one that people are just straightforwardly psyched for.
09:06Every single bit of input I have seen on Monster Hunter Wilds has been positive.
09:11I haven't seen too many people critical of it and when they are critical of it, it's
09:14pretty light generally.
09:16It just looks like an amazing new Monster Hunter game.
09:20It looks huge like World, it looks colorful like Rise, and it's gotten a huge upgrade
09:25to the graphics.
09:26I have to assume everything about this game is poised to just be a big friggin' hit.
09:33At number five, we got an announcement for a game called ArchAge Chronicles.
09:37Now ArchAge is a game that came out quite a while ago.
09:40It's an MMORPG that they called a Sand Park.
09:44Kind of a hybrid of a sandbox game and a theme park.
09:48I think actually a pretty good way of putting it.
09:50I haven't played ArchAge in a very long time, but it came out back in 2013 in Korea and
09:57in the West in 2014.
09:59So it's been a while and in all seriousness, this looks like a massive upgrade in graphics
10:04and systems and world and everything.
10:07It is set 50 years after the original game, so it's not just a rehash of the original,
10:12which is nice.
10:13I have to say in every way, it does look like a AAA game.
10:17I don't know exactly what that's going to add up to.
10:19I have a feeling it's going to be pretty fun.
10:22Will it sustain itself?
10:24That's always the question with these types of games.
10:26I hope so because obviously I always hope for the best.
10:29It looks damn cool.
10:30So yeah, that's coming next year.
10:33At number four, we're getting Legacy of Kain, Soul Reaver 1 and 2 remastered.
10:38Uh, yes, absolutely.
10:40Abso-freaking-lutely.
10:42We were just talking about this the other day.
10:44I said something about how they've made it seem increasingly unlikely they're ever going
10:48to give us a remake of these games and lo and behold, ask and ye shall receive.
10:54Granted, we were talking kind of about the Legacy of Kain as a whole in the video where
10:59we were talking about games where it seems like the franchise is dead and we're not getting
11:02another entry of it.
11:03I specifically mentioned Soul Reaver as games I'd like to see remade in particular out of
11:08Legacy of Kain.
11:10They're really good games.
11:11I love Soul Reaver.
11:12They're pretty different from the other Legacy of Kain games, but I kind of don't care.
11:16They were big hits and for good reason.
11:19And man, in all seriousness, it was just one of those ones where I'm just like, yes, absolutely.
11:24And it's not even a long time we're going to wait for them.
11:26They're coming to PS5 and PS4 December 10th.
11:31Moving on to number three, it's Hitman World of Assassination.
11:34You might say to yourself, wait, that's already out.
11:37And yes, that is true.
11:38You can buy Hitman World of Assassination, the trilogy of these games.
11:42They're fantastic games.
11:43They are third person games, sandbox games.
11:47And the announcement is actually for them coming to PSVR with a ton of exclusive features.
11:54And I don't know how I could possibly not want this.
11:59It's everything that you kind of want Hitman to be.
12:02You want to be the badass.
12:03So now you get to go in, dual wield guns, do all of the actions with your hands.
12:08I mean, it's crazy.
12:10It's hard to even describe how crazy it is.
12:12Like Hitman is such a varied, sandbox oriented game.
12:17To make it for VR and actually make it for VR, not just make a game where you can see
12:23from the perspective of the character, but kind of rebuild the game from the ground up
12:27specifically for VR.
12:29I mean, that's freaking huge.
12:31These are such good games and I can't wait to play them.
12:34Honestly, this is a good reason to own PSVR.
12:38At number two is The Midnight Walk, a PlayStation 5 slash PlayStation VR 2 game, meaning you'll
12:45be able to play the game on either of these platforms.
12:47I like that idea.
12:49I'm not sure exactly how necessary VR is for this because it is a highly stylized game
12:55and to be completely frank, it's very, very neat looking.
13:00I don't think that it's going to matter whether it's on PSVR or not.
13:04There's a lot to like about how this game looks.
13:06VR might be slightly more interesting.
13:09We'll see.
13:10It's kind of, because it uses an emulated stop motion animation look for the movement
13:15of the characters.
13:16And I don't know how well that will translate to directly to your eyeballs.
13:21I'm not super worried.
13:22It's not like a major concern or anything.
13:24But I think I'll probably get it on the PS5 rather than the VR.
13:27I love it when VR is done right, but also I do get sick playing the VR after a short
13:32period of time.
13:33And I have some, I have concerns about what that stop motion is going to do in that respect.
13:38But man, this is a cool looking game.
13:40We don't have a release date or anything.
13:42They're just saying spring 2025, but hey, that's, that's something to look forward to.
13:46I definitely think.
13:47And finally, at number one, this is the one that I've been waiting to talk about this
13:50whole time.
13:51Ghost of Yotei, the follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima.
13:55It is a game set 329 years after the first game.
13:58It has a pretty different vibe in terms of its setup.
14:02Obviously we're still a samurai.
14:03We still have swords, et cetera, et cetera.
14:05It's a different time period, but it's not a time period where modern technology has
14:09been introduced.
14:11But it's an era where rather than samurai clans, there were a lot of roaming Ronin,
14:15so to speak.
14:16A pretty different world.
14:17You are one of those Ronin.
14:18Apparently you start off as a hunter around Yotei and you very quickly become very wanted
14:24and the target of every samurai in the area.
14:27It looks really cool.
14:28Honestly.
14:29Ghost of Tsushima is of course a fantastic game and this looks like a pretty cool follow-up
14:34in my opinion.
14:35I don't know if this counts as a spinoff or a sequel exactly.
14:40Obviously it takes place in the same continuity, but I don't know if there's a Ghost of Tsushima
14:45or not.
14:46If they're just going to focus on the ghost character, this Ronin or samurai or whatever,
14:50wearing a mask and doing secrety things and being contemplative on top of mountains and
14:55stuff.
14:56I'm just happy to see the series continue and this does look like a great game in my
14:59opinion.
15:00I'm excited to see where it goes.
15:02No release date, but it's coming next year.
15:04We'll keep you informed of everything we know as well.
15:07We have a couple of bonus things to mention here.
15:09We got an overview trailer of Dynasty Warriors Origins.
15:13The new mainline Dynasty Warriors game, it is not an open world game.
15:19I think they probably could make an open world Dynasty Warriors that didn't suck.
15:24It just would have to not be clearly intended to be an MMORPG and they changed direction.
15:30That said, Dynasty Warriors 9 sucked horribly.
15:33It didn't focus on the things that make Dynasty Warriors great.
15:36This looks like it's doing exactly that and it's doing it with a lot more power behind
15:41the game's engine.
15:42That is coming January 17th, 2025.
15:45The expansion we have all been waiting for.
15:48Yes, the Night Springs DLC was a lot of fun, not complaining, but the Federal Bureau of
15:53Control oriented Lakehouse expansion, I am so there for.
15:58The FBC agent you see in Alan Wake, Kieran Estevez, is in an adventure that actually
16:04happens parallel to Alan Wake 2 and I think that's a great idea for what to do with this.
16:10I would like to know what the Federal Bureau of Control is doing the whole time, frankly.
16:14I am a huge FBC enthusiast, let's say.
16:19Control is probably one of my favorite games of all time.
16:22Alan Wake 2, I think, only outshines it on the basis that it manages to accomplish a
16:28lot more.
16:29In terms of the world itself, Control is a huge winner.
16:33Also, in the exact same way DLC served as an Alan Wake 2 teaser with Control, I think
16:40we're getting a Control 2 teaser here, as well as an enjoyable expansion on what happened
16:46in the events of Alan Wake 2.
16:48I'm super excited, it's coming out in October.
16:51We also got some new gameplay for Towers of Agazba, a game that looks like an adventure
16:56game where you grow an ecosystem.
16:58It's a very pretty looking game, but I don't fully understand it quite yet.
17:02You got town building, you got plant planting, and a big ol' world to explore.
17:07It does look very cool, and I have to assume that it's going to be interesting, but this
17:13is the first in-depth anything I've seen of it.
17:16It does look very cool, and it's launching in early access in November.
17:20We'll see exactly what happens with that one.
17:22But that's also it for today.
