00:00It's the biggest night in television, with the eyes of the world on that hallowed red
00:04carpet.
00:05Here's the question, though.
00:06Which stars flopped at this year's Emmys?
00:09A white suit is perfect for so many occasions, including the Emmys.
00:14There is, however, one important rule to keep in mind if you opt for this look.
00:18Spend the night sipping on something other than Cabernet Sauvignon.
00:21Not only did Reservation Dog star Sarah Podemski fail to take appropriate measures to avoid
00:26red wine stains, but she seemed to have waded into a vat of it.
00:30Color blocking was all the rage on the carpet this year, but the proportions and color combination
00:35of this version were a miss.
00:37When it comes to giving a home a makeover, Queer Eye fans know that Bobby Burr can upgrade
00:41a space faster than most of us can make our morning coffee.
00:44Unfortunately, he didn't give his Emmys look the makeover it needed before hitting the
00:48red carpet.
00:49The shiny, crinkly navy blue fabric of his suit made him look like a squashed blueberry
00:53more than anything else, washing him out and distracting from the suit's modern silhouette.
00:58The Emmys may have taken place in the middle of September, but that doesn't mean it's the
01:02right occasion to pay homage to the spooky season.
01:05Reservation Dog star Deveree Jacobs definitely missed this memo, rocking a white suit covered
01:09in ghostly ruffles.
01:10Without the layers of tulle, this suit could have looked timeless and chic.
01:18And without the bulky ensemble underneath, the ruffles could have felt light, young,
01:22and ethereal.
01:23When paired together, though, this look just doesn't work.
01:26A guy can't go wrong with a black and white suit, right?
01:29Well, as Fallout star Walton Goggins has proven, that's not necessarily the case.
01:34Black pants, a black button-down, and a white jacket make a simple, sleek combination.
01:39But these pieces managed to look entirely mismatched here.
01:42His shirt and pants both felt a bit messy and ill-fitting, and the shades of black felt
01:46off.
01:47TikToker Chris Olsen never shies away from making a statement, and his Emmys ensemble
01:52was certainly no exception.
01:53Sadly, the only statement we could think of when looking at Olsen's cherry red suit is,
01:58close, but no cigar.
01:59This bold suit with crisp white piping and matching loafers and sunglasses felt modern
02:04yet vintage-inspired and chic yet classic.
02:07Unfortunately, his low-cut tank top and necklace felt distracting and mismatched and took away
02:12from the vibes of his ensemble, where a button-down shirt might have let it shine.
02:17Clearly, the Gilded Age director Sally Richardson-Whitfield hoped to hit the Emmys red carpet in the
02:22look inspired by her HBO period piece.
02:25Unfortunately, she looked more like one of Cinderella's wicked stepsisters than a character
02:28out of her own series.
02:29I'd be honored, your highness.
02:30Would you mind holding my broom?
02:35Not only was this structured silhouette over-the-top, but combined with a green hue, it had big
02:40cartoon villain energy.
02:41The long gloves, heavy jewels, and black accents only made it worse.
02:46As the holiday season approaches, nobody should be blamed for unpacking their decorations
02:50and getting in the festive spirit a bit early.
02:52That doesn't mean, however, that September is the right time to wear your Christmas tree
02:55skirt out on the town.
02:57Is red and green always a Christmas color combination?
03:00Not necessarily.
03:01Still, the shades of colors and fabric combination of the Daily Show correspondent Dulce Sloan's
03:06dress were unquestionably in the holiday spirit, and it was difficult to ignore that this look
03:10was just slightly out of season.
03:13It seems that when Fallout actor Moses Arias asked his stylist what his simple black suit
03:17was missing, he misheard them.
03:20They said,
03:21"...a shirt and a belt."
03:22And he thought they said,
03:23"...the chains that Jacob Marley's ghost forged in life that he's forced to wear when visiting
03:26Ebenezer Scrooge on Christmas Eve night."
03:28It's an easy mistake to make, but it was more than enough to land Arias in the worst dress
03:32list.
03:33God bless us, everyone.
03:36This year's Emmy Awards came just a few days after the 2024 MTV Video Movie Awards, an
03:42event that saw many stars rocking sheer fabrics and exposed lingerie.
03:46So, while the bare culinary producer Courtney Storer's ensemble was on-trend, that doesn't
03:51mean it worked for the occasion.
03:53The Emmy Awards tend to be a bit more elevated and sophisticated than the VMAs, and this
03:57outfit would have worked better on the other red carpet.
04:00The high slit, exposed underwear, and shiny fabric just felt too over-the-top for this
04:04particular ceremony.
04:06Abbott Elementary actor Lisa Ann Walter hit the red carpet in a white and chartreuse gown.
04:11Sadly, this outfit just didn't work.
04:13Not only did the chartreuse detailing clash with the rest of the look, but her jewels
04:17and voluminous updo felt like a major detail overload.
04:21This ensemble made it hard to know where to look, and Walter ended up lost among all the
04:25intense elements.
04:27If you can't decide between a suit and a gown, you could always go for both, right?
04:32Well, no, as artfully demonstrated by The Gilded Age actor Carrie Coon.
04:36This off-white Tom Brown haute couture gown may have felt unique and experimental on the
04:41hanger, but when Coon actually sported it on the red carpet, it just felt like an odd
04:45silhouette and a hodgepodge of different elements.
04:48Without sleeves and with a more voluminous hairstyle, this look could have had much better
04:52balance overall.
04:53Baby reindeer star Na'vi Mao would look stunning in almost any ensemble.
04:58However, this shiny, sculptural, fire-engine-red Gigi Goode gown was majorly distracting on
05:03the red carpet.
05:04The combination of color, fabric, and silhouette looked like a Disney villain Halloween costume
05:08and overwhelmed Mao's sleek hairstyle and pretty makeup.
05:12In a matte fabric, this look likely would have been a red carpet star, but the shiny
05:16texture made it look too much like a purchase from Spirit Halloween.
05:20It's difficult to imagine what the vision was behind Reba McIntyre's shiny Emmys ensemble.
05:25The ultimate effect is obvious, though.
05:27This is one seriously overwhelming look.
05:29Her teal suit's shiny, printed texture made quite a statement on its own.
05:34When paired with a shiny silver tank top and silver star brooches, however, it became clear
05:38that there was just way too much going on.
05:40Besides the overly shiny finishes, the silhouette overwhelmed her frame and made her outfit
05:45look oversized.
