00:00Hey everyone, today we are going to learn about picture graphs.
00:05Let's go on over and take a look.
00:12We are going to build a picture graph and use it to answer questions about the data
00:16we collect.
00:18Using a picture graph will help us visualize the data we have.
00:25Here are a bunch of colored pencils from my class at school.
00:28We need to answer some questions about these pencils, but first we need to organize them
00:33into a picture graph.
00:35Let's organize these pencils by color.
00:41We have quite a few pencils here of different colors.
00:44Let's count the blue first.
00:47There are 1, 2, 3, 4 blue pencils.
00:51Now let's count the red pencils.
00:53We have 1, 2, 3 red pencils.
00:57Here we have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 green pencils.
01:02Last we have the pink pencils to count.
01:05There are 1, 2, 3, 4 pink pencils.
01:10Great!
01:11Now we have our data to put into the picture graph.
01:14To start our graph we need a title for the picture graph.
01:17Since our data is dealing with the colors of the pencils, should we call it pencil colors?
01:23Yeah, that sounds great to me.
01:27Here on the left we will list the different colors of pencils that we have.
01:31Up on the top we have blue, then red, then green, and on the bottom we have pink.
01:37We can label this side colors so we know that this side of the graph shows us the colors
01:42of the pencils we have.
01:46This graph is starting to look really good.
01:48Now to show the number of colored pencils we have, we are going to use these pictures
01:53of pencils.
01:54Each one of these pictures will represent one pencil.
02:02When using a picture graph we need to use a key.
02:05The key tells us what the symbol or picture means.
02:10One of these pictures represents one colored pencil.
02:17Alright now we can put the data on our graph.
02:20Let's start with the blue colored pencil.
02:22How many blue pencils do we have?
02:27We have 4, great job!
02:29So I will use 4 pictures to represent the 4 blue colored pencils we have.
02:35How many red colored pencils do we have?
02:40We have 3 red pencils, so let's put down 3 pictures to represent the 3 red pencils.
02:46How many green pencils do we have?
02:50We have 5 green pencils, let's put down 5 pictures for the green pencils.
02:56Great job!
02:57We have one more left to put on the graph.
03:01How many pink pencils do we have?
03:06We have 4 pink pencils, so let's put 4 pictures to represent all 4 pink pencils.
03:15This is awesome guys!
03:16We now have a picture graph that shows how many colored pencils we have and how many
03:21of each color.
03:22This graph gives us lots of information.
03:25Now we can answer some questions.
03:29Are there more blue pencils than green?
03:37If we look at the picture graph we can see that the answer is no, there are more green
03:41pencils than blue.
03:43We can tell that by seeing more green pictures than blue.
03:47Now can you tell me which color has the least amount of pencils?
03:55Red has just 3 pencils and we can see there are 3 by the pictures on the graph.
04:00Last question, how many pink and red pencils are there together?
04:08There are 7.
04:10When you add the 4 pink pencils to the 3 red pencils we get 7.
04:14Great job guys!
04:17Keep practicing your picture graphs and you will get to see the big picture.
04:20See you later!
