00:00Audio track commentary for Kitty Foyle.
00:15This is Jerry Beck, welcome.
00:25This is my favorite Tom & Jerry cartoon because it is the most pure Tom & Jerry cartoon. I love this.
00:35Most of the Tom & Jerry cartoons are about Tom meeting this character or Jerry befriending that character or something happens.
00:46Nothing happens in this cartoon. It's just Tom chasing Jerry.
00:50Now, there is one exception. Jerry is aided by this canary.
00:55But other than that, this cartoon has no plot. It's just Tom chasing Jerry.
00:59This is exactly what everyone's stereotype of a Tom & Jerry cartoon is.
01:04Irv Spence did this opening animation with the canary.
01:09We will point that animators out when we can.
01:33The animation is just really at its perfect prime here too.
01:38The gags are particularly violent in this cartoon.
01:45Jerry's had a variety of different sidekicks throughout the years.
01:50He's had Little Nibbles.
01:53He's had the duckling, a little duckling.
01:56Spike and Tyke, a couple of dogs.
01:59And of course there's this bird.
02:01I love that shot. Look at that giant eyeball.
02:06It's just one thing after another in this cartoon.
02:10I love it.
02:28Bill Barbera did 114 Tom & Jerry cartoons for MGM in their heyday.
02:35They won seven Oscars for these cartoons.
02:44And Bill Hanna is the man who did the timing on these cartoons.
02:52And he's got it down pat.
02:56This is not something very simple.
03:03This gag is also Irv Spence.
03:07And I think we all felt that.
03:09I don't know about you, but I did.
03:39Bill Hanna started his career in animation
03:42practically working as a janitor for the Harmon & Ising studio in 1930
03:47for the first season of Looney Tunes.
03:50He worked his way up.
03:52Rudy Ising took a liking to him and mentored him.
03:56And he worked his way up to being a director
04:00and worked as a timing director on Two Spring,
04:03which was one of the early MGM cartoons
04:06under Rudy Ising's direction.
04:09Hanna & Barbera's cartoons broke pace
04:12with the opulent Harmon & Ising cartoons that preceded them.
04:16They brought a new speed and attitude to the MGM cartoons,
04:20which was apace with the development of Bugs Bunny at Warner Brothers
04:24and Woody Woodpecker at Lamps.
06:38Elle continue.
06:40C'est une chose violente après l'autre.
06:42Et à un moment, ce point-là,
06:44la cartoon décide de finir.
07:01Comme Tom et son ami,
07:03qui chante « My Blue Heaven »
07:05et qu'on irise.
