02:27organized by Civil Military Corporation, CIMICO, at the National Defense College, Abuja.
02:34Olukoyede, who was represented by the Director of Public Affairs Directorate, Commander of
02:41the EFCC, C.E. Wilson Muggeran stated that, corruption is the key issue in terms of the
02:47promotion of insecurity in this nation.
02:50When people talk about insecurity and national development, one factor that is important
02:56to note is the implication of corruption on national security management and development.
03:02It is time for us to collectively fight corruption which has become a major challenge to our
03:07nation's development.
03:09The loss of resources to corruption denies our nation the resources we should have used
03:14to provide infrastructure and digital services for our people, depending the poverty we experience
03:20in this country, he said.
03:22Speaking further, the EFCC board stated that corruption breeds poverty, which in turn makes
03:29the jobless to embrace recruitment into banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.
03:36Olukoyede pledged EFCC's unwavering support to the armed forces in the fight against insecurity
03:42and to ensure that proceeds of crime are not deployed by rogue elements to oxygenate terrorist
03:48activities.
03:49We will continue to monitor the flow of funds, especially in the banking sector, to ensure
03:55that illicit money doesn't get into the hands of bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists, he
04:02stated.
04:03In his welcome address, Mr. Adams Otaku, convener and founder CIMICO, urged civil society
04:11organizations to be driven by patriotism and stay off fraudulent activities.
04:17Civil societies must be genuine and not be involved in fraudulent activities.
04:22Our role is to call public institutions to accountability, not to indulge in blackmail.
04:29That is not activism, and we must desist from that and engage in productive ventures.
04:35As civil society organizations, we are the conscious of the society.
04:40If we lose it, we lose everything.
04:43It is not about money.
04:45It is about patriotism, he said.
04:48The commandant of the National Defense College, Rear Admiral Olumunwa Morakinyo Olutu, on
04:55his part, stated that the essence of the conference was to brainstorm and bring forth
05:00solutions to the government on insecurity.
05:03We are to develop implementable strategies to tackle insecurity and promote national
05:09development, he said.
05:11The representative of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babatunde Mbolaji
05:16Benal, emphasized the need to reach and educate people at the grassroots level against alien
05:22terrorists and criminal elements and for members of the public to desist from spreading
05:27fake news churned out by criminals.
05:30We must educate them on the need not to support criminals, as some of them are conveying terrorists,
05:36buying fuel, food, and other necessities for them.
05:41The Minister of State for Police Affairs, Iman Suleman Ibrahim, called for a concerted
05:47effort from all Nigerians in tackling insecurity, stating that security affairs are everybody's
05:54business, not just the police and other law enforcement agencies.
05:59We must join hands with the police and other law enforcement agencies to end the menace
06:04of insecurity.
06:06The event, themed Hall of Society Approach to National Security and Development, brought
06:12together stakeholders from various sectors for the forging of solutions to insecurity
06:17in the country and the promotion of national development, as reported by the Public Relations
06:22of EFCC.
