At THR's Emmys Nominees Night gala, Richard Gadd opens up about how he has been reacting to the attention he's been getting after the release of 'Baby Reindeer.'

00:00Baby Ranger is such an intense and emotional series. What was it like
00:04releasing the show and having it receive all this acclaim? Was it cathartic for
00:09you or was it maybe challenging in some ways you didn't expect? Well I mean the
00:13whole the whole I would say past five months have been pretty pretty
00:15overwhelming. I mean there's just been so much that's happened I almost can't
00:19believe it. It's been a whirlwind. I'm still sort of catching my breath. It's
00:22almost hard to sort of encapsulate into a kind of positive or negative emotion.
00:25It's been a sort of a whole whirlwind of things but yeah there's been so many
00:29positive things that have happened. I mean being here is like the stuff of
00:33dreams, being nominated for Emmys is the stuff of dreams and obviously like the
00:36shows have such a positive impact on charities and stuff like that. Like back
00:39in the UK like abuse charity referrals are up 80 percent, stalking charities
00:44are up 47 percent so so you know there's been so much positives so many positives
00:49but it's been there's been a lot you know there's been a lot happening and
00:52you know and I've had to exercise some real dig deep at times you know but but
00:58I've loved it you know the response has been unbelievable you can't really ask
01:02for more so yeah. Speaking of the response what sort of messages have you
01:06received from viewers who maybe felt seen or represented by the show? Yeah
01:10that's been one of the most positive things I mean I I get a lot of letters
01:14and I get a lot like the fan mail and stuff like that and I'm very moved to
01:17tears sometimes with it you know there's people who like after 50 years you've
01:21encouraged me to open up about this or you've encouraged me to speak to my wife
01:26or my parents about this or I've come out at this age because of you in the
01:30show and all this and that stuff's really like moving like I really you
01:34know I think it has helped a lot of people and I think that's like that's
01:36like the best that's the most kind of fulfilling thing but yeah it's it's
01:41opened up a load of kind of conversations and allowed people kind of
01:43because the show really is about trauma and a lot of people say it's the stalking
01:46show and all this kind of stuff and I think that it is the stalking show but I
01:49think ultimately is a show that explores trauma and I think that people have a
01:53lot to say but I think a lot of people struggle with trauma and I think that
01:56it's opened up a lot of conversations and help people kind of with a bit of
01:59understanding around those things and so yeah I get a lot of a lot of very moving
02:04and moving letters and writings from people and interactions in the street
02:08and stuff like that yeah coming up you have Lions what can you tell us about
02:12that show that's a working title but I'm not sure I can say the actual one now
02:19but but yeah but I'm working on it real hard I'm not not sure what I'm allowed
02:24to say other than what's out there in the press release but by I really I
02:28really love it I'm writing it right now I'm working real hard on it I'm in
02:34between so Emmys press and all this kind of stuff I'm working real hard on it so
02:38yeah I'm just I'm really excited there's lots to do and yeah just get my head
02:43down and I'm working on it yeah we also see you on screen in that show I can't
02:48say can't say for sure well we can't wait to see it and one last quick
02:52question for you there have been so many headlines about someone who claims she's
02:55the real Martha coming out in suing Netflix how surprising was that to you
02:59or was that something you thought might happen well I can't really speak about
03:02that because that's part of a wider sort of legal case so I can't really speak
