00:00You know, it's always risky introducing a tame animal into the wild.
00:04Here's a look at McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Batman Forever The Riddler.
00:29Batman faces off against two foes, the schizophrenic, horribly scarred former District Attorney
00:34Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face, and The Riddler, a disgruntled ex-Wayne Enterprises inventor
00:39seeking revenge against the former employer who unleashes his brain-sucking weapon on
00:43Gotham City's residents.
00:44As the Caped Crusader also deals with tortured memories of his parents' murder, he has
00:48a new romance with psychologist Chase Meridian.
00:58Just before we get a closer look at the DC Multiverse Batman Forever Jim Carrey's Riddler,
01:02the tape measure is going to tell us that the figure stands at seven inches in height,
01:06or is going to be seventeen and a half centimeters tall.
01:09For those that care, I did find all four figures at my local Toys R Us.
01:14What a relief off this guy's shoulders.
01:15I was really worried I was going to have to order these all online.
01:18I paid about $32 each figure.
01:21Of course, I had to pick up all four figures, so you can already do the math.
01:26Had already looked at at least one of those four figures, that being the sonar suit Batman,
01:29from a size standpoint.
01:30Batman is a little bit taller if you count the points on the tops of his cowl, whereas
01:34before we did get the sonar suit, it's already been a double-dipped mold.
01:37This is the first time we've gotten ourselves a Jim Carrey Riddler, and I would hope as
01:41well it's not the last time we're going to see this mold either.
01:44I'm sure as stating already the obvious, they could do platinum editions, not only
01:47a white suit Riddler with the jazzy looking hair that he has, but also as well his jacket
01:52that keeps him safe while he's jogging at night.
01:55While sadly not being packed with riddles, Riddler does get packed with a fair number
01:58of other things.
01:59Like, for example, the figure comes in clue with the display stand.
02:02I know it's not really much different than normal display stands, where I spend a whole
02:05lot of time talking about this.
02:07There's a peg.
02:08There's holes on the bombs of his feet.
02:10You can put two and two together.
02:11Literally, you can put two and two together.
02:12And move the stand off to the side, the figure does also come in clue with the trading card.
02:16The trading card, though, if we were to kind of just look at this, Batman kind of would
02:20be a little bit larger in size, and then like Riddler kind of would be down here.
02:24Then we've got Two-Face, Chase Meridian, Robin, Batmobile down below.
02:29So it's not really quite the case like Batman and Robin, where you could kind of just line
02:32up the puzzle pieces and make yourself the poster, because Batman is pretty much more
02:35front and center.
02:36Like I said, Riddler, if you want to go by a size standpoint, would be like right around
02:41here.
02:42Anybody care?
02:43Nobody cares.
02:44Okay.
02:45Looking, though, at the back of the card, by the way, there's Jim Carrey there.
02:48Just Tommy Lee Jones hated this guy on set, and was very openly telling him also as well.
02:53Like, you imagine just working with a guy, and he right away comes up to you and just
02:56says, just so you know, I can't stand you.
02:59Like, how do you work with him afterwards?
03:01Anyways, on the back of the card, it happens, though, to be the exact same readup that was
03:05on the back of Batman's card.
03:06So if you're looking for something specifically to Enigma, you're not going to find it, at
03:09least not on the back of this card.
03:11Going to hold on to these.
03:12We're going to be joining those with the other two figure cards that we'll be looking at
03:16in an upcoming review.
03:17This is a little jarring, a little disturbing.
03:19Look at the thing that we got.
03:20Now, we know already what this is supposed to be.
03:23If I didn't tell you, though, it was a bat, I mean, you would just look like this was
03:25it looked like some dead animal carcass laying at the side of the road.
03:29Or you put that on someone's dinner plates and just have a good laugh at their expense.
03:34This is, though, part of the bats.
03:35We did actually get ourselves the display stand that came included with the Batman.
03:40There's a hole right here, and of course, there's the ball joint.
03:42I haven't yet done this.
03:43This is the first time doing this.
03:44I may even have to heat this because I think I'm going to have to, yeah, I think I'm going
03:48to have to heat this in order to get this in place.
03:51May have to leave this all with me, everybody.
03:53I will have to plug that in place.
03:55Let's see if I fare a little bit better, though, with the bat head.
03:57The bat head, if we assume this, obviously, to be on the bottom of his belly, we're going
04:00to take the bat head, and we're going to plug that in place.
04:03Hey, that's a lot easier.
04:05Melt still opens and closes.
04:06Nothing has changed in that territory.
04:07Of course, we still have to add the wings, two faces, and robins, maybe the other way
04:11around.
04:12You get the idea, though.
04:13There's wings coming at a later date.
04:14It's so disturbing.
04:16Moving on to the side.
04:19Let's look at the things, though, that come included with the Riddler.
04:20First of all, he comes included with a cane, for obvious things.
04:22I mean, how disappointed would it be if Riddler didn't come included with a cane?
04:26The cane, I have to say, though, is a little softer of a plastic than I was expecting.
04:29Still, though, it manages to fit in his hands.
04:32He has, though, already two gripping hands, so right away, out of the packaging, you can
04:36already display the figure with it, with also, as well, the poseability this guy possesses.
04:39You can get all those zany-looking Riddler poses.
04:42That's impressive.
04:43You can display the figure that way.
04:46He also comes included while he's holding on to his cane.
04:48Actually, you know what?
04:49Let's get the cane out of his hands.
04:50He also comes with the little wind-up bat bomb that we see at the beginning.
04:55Well, we see it once he eventually gets into the bat cave.
04:58Intruder alert.
04:59Intruder alert.
05:00He basically winds up the front of the head, and then he just lets these bats go.
05:03I don't really know how destructive these bats would be.
05:06I mean, it doesn't look like they explode all that much, and yet, it's enough to take
05:09out the Batmobile and take out the chamber that houses all the bat suits, which basically
05:14was a way that Batman then had to introduce the sonar suit, and that was a way, of course,
05:18that Kenner got the chance to, well, release basically all the other ... Was it Kenner
05:21still by then?
05:22I think it was Kenner by then.
05:24May have even been Mattel, but, of course, he does blow up quite a lot of the bat cave
05:29using these tiny little bats.
05:31The bat head does not twist.
05:32If you were to twist it, you'd only just twist it right off, and then you'd be all sad.
05:36Don't do that.
05:37Whatever you do.
05:38You could take, though, the bat bomb and put it into his hands.
05:41He also does technically come also included with a relaxed hand, which is this hand right
05:45here, which serves not only for the that's impressive gesture that I had at the beginning
05:50of this review, but I suppose, as well, you could take yourself the bat bomb on his hand,
05:54and you could also just kind of just fit into his hand this way as well, if you wanted to,
06:00of course.
06:01He does have the hands, by the way, and one other thing, too.
06:03He does also have a closed fist hand, so if you want to change that out, don't really
06:07see a need necessarily to change out this hand for this hand, because this hand eventually
06:11will be displayed probably with the cane.
06:13But if you wanted to, I'll show you how easy it is to remove the hands.
06:15Just pop off one.
06:16You replace it with the other.
06:17Pop it in place.
06:18Then, of course, he can take himself the bat bomb.
06:21I guess I could take the bat bomb and just fit it into his hands, just kind of like that.
06:27He holds it okay.
06:28I mean, does it survive the blizzard test?
06:29It does.
06:30I mean, it does survive that.
06:32So he holds it pretty good, pretty good indeed.
06:34So those are all the accessories.
06:35Let's get a closer look at Riddler.
06:36I'll tell you right away, though.
06:38I was lucky enough that every other figure that I saw at Toys R Us, it was basically
06:42one of every one.
06:43It was one Batman.
06:44It was one Two-Face.
06:45It was one Robin.
06:46So if there was any paint problems with any of those, I would just be screwed.
06:49Luckily, though, for Riddler, there was two versions of Riddler.
06:52The first one that I picked up, the first one that kind of lured me over to that shelf
06:56happens not, though, to be this one.
06:58The other one kind of had a real wonky looking eye.
07:00I don't know really what's the way it was painted, just didn't seem like it was right.
07:05Then I happened to kind of look behind all the other things, and I sure enough found
07:07a second Riddler.
07:08And of the two head sculpts, it definitely had the better.
07:11Now likeness-wise, whether you like Jim Carrey or not, I think we could all certainly agree
07:16that it looks quite a bit like Jim Carrey.
07:18He of course does have the mask on.
07:19I'm sure down the road we will be getting platinum editions of this guy.
07:22Let's hope.
07:23Fingers crossed we get a white suit version with a crazy looking hair and the kind of
07:26little, I guess he had a little question mark at the bottom of his mask.
07:29This mask, by the way, is molded to his face.
07:31You cannot remove it.
07:32He does have the darkness around his areas of his eyes, though.
07:35Kind of a Jim Carrey style of smile, though, again, whether you like the character or actor
07:38or not.
07:39And he's got, of course, the crop top on the top.
07:42Very much kind of really took some inspirational cues, I think, from Frank Gorshin's Riddler,
07:48which really isn't that bad of a reference at all.
07:50I loved Frank Gorshin's Riddler.
07:52And the suit sort of has the same sort of idea.
07:54Very skin tight.
07:55Jim Carrey had to lose, I think, a lot of weight in order to fit the suit.
07:58I feel like the figure is okay.
08:00There are some issues, notably, with it.
08:02I mean, I guess one of the biggest ones is because he has these cup joints right here.
08:06You can probably see where I'm going with this.
08:08The joints, unfortunately, have to hide the part that the shoulder's going to attach
08:10into the torso.
08:12What it unfortunately means, though, that there's one area right here that clearly
08:15doesn't have question marks on it.
08:16You can kind of hide these in by kind of tucking them into the torso.
08:19But every time, though, that you move his arm out, it ends up just popping these things
08:23out too.
08:24And it even more draws attention to the idea that there's no question marks there.
08:27I also feel, too, like while there's a fair number of them, I feel like there's so many
08:31question marks, and they're so close in quarters to one another.
08:34I really feel like he should have a whole lot less of these, especially on his torso.
08:38To go back and look at the references, do we have the card?
08:41Let's bring back in the card.
08:42If you look at the card, and then you look at the way they presented the figure, see
08:45there's so many less question marks on the actual suit design, and there's a lot more
08:49of them on the suit.
08:50I feel like they probably could have done away with maybe some of the smaller ones in
08:53favor of just leaving the large ones behind.
08:56There's a lot of them, and they're clearly only printed here on the front and only on
08:59the back.
09:00You can see there's nothing printed on the side, so it likely was pressed onto the figure
09:04by like an ink press or like a printing press.
09:06Probably would have been able to, again, print the front and back of the figure.
09:09And he's also got it on his arm.
09:10So, I mean, there's a fair bit of expense that would have had to go behind the scenes
09:14in order to get Riddler looking like this.
09:16I just don't feel like he probably could have toned it down a little bit, pulled and removed
09:19some of those question marks.
09:20I don't think he necessarily needed all of them.
09:23Good looking overall body, though.
09:24He does also have, of course, the different colored shoes, which he does have also in
09:27the movie.
09:28I feel like in the movie, maybe they are a little bit lighter than this, but I'm not
09:31going to fault the footwear that's on Ned Winnigma's feet.
09:34Of course, he does have the peggles on the bottoms of his feet as well.
09:38Stop that.
09:39Now, for the figure's articulation, going back to Riddler's face, which, again, is pretty
09:42good on this guy.
09:43Head's going to rotate all the way around.
09:45The head looks up.
09:46The head looks down.
09:47The head looks also to the side and also the side as well.
09:50Arms rotate all the way around.
09:51There's no hindrances at all there.
09:53Yes, again, you can bring the arms out, but every time you tend to move it, you always
09:56end up popping these things out for it as well, and I think it sort of loses a little
10:01bit of the illusion.
10:02He does have a swivel at his bicep, does have a double hinge on his elbow, and Riddler's
10:07hands rotate all the way around.
10:08Now, his upper torso is going to be on a very generous ball joint.
10:11You can also do the same with his lower abdomen area as well.
10:14Legs split out.
10:15You can take the legs and move forward.
10:16You can move them back.
10:17There's a swivel at the top of the thigh, double hinge on the knee, and then you've
10:21got the standard articulation there in the ankle, back and forth movement, back and
10:25forth rocking, and the figure does also have toe articulation as well.
10:30I haven't yet opened up Two-Face.
10:31I can already tell you probably Two-Face is going to be my favorite of the four figures,
10:34but I did want to kind of start things.
10:36I did want to start things obviously with Batman because Batman obviously is the star
10:39of the show, even though Val Kilmer apparently hated being on the set.
10:43It's funny that this set's sort of filled with actors that didn't really even want to
10:46be there or sort of after they signed on, they realized later, you know, that I'm just
10:50not enjoying this.
10:52So if Val Kilmer didn't really enjoy it, Jim Carrey probably would have already been enjoying
10:55it, had it not been for the case that Tommy Lee Jones just has to basically walk up to
10:59the guy and say, like, I just can't stand your guts.
11:02How do you act after that?
11:03Apparently he acted fine.
11:04I mean, I liked Jim Carrey in Batman for a little over the top, a little Gorshin, and
11:08a little bit of Gorshin in your Riddler isn't a bad thing at all.
11:11Of course, Riddler is an ever crucial part.
11:14If you want to get any progress made when it comes to the Nightmare Bat, you need obviously
11:16the body for Riddler.
11:18I mean, again, it looks a little off and out of place.
11:20I mean, especially it looks just like a carcass of an animal body left behind.
11:25Of course, we are going to be making better progress when we look at Robin and we're going
11:28to be looking at Two-Face.
11:29We're going to build those wings and add them onto the body.
11:32But yeah, I like the look of Riddler.
11:34You know, certainly as a wrap up this review, one thing I would only hope, seeing as they
11:39already have the body, seeing as they have the likeness rights in order to produce a
11:42Jim Carrey Riddler, you would hope that they're going to also do some platinum editions.
11:46I can already think of obviously two of them.
11:48The biggest ones being the white suit we see at the end of the movie when we also see the
11:51sonar suit.
11:52And again, I'd love to see the jogging at night glowing jacket.
11:56From a headsculpt standpoint, I mean, they would also have to retool the hair in order
12:00to match the white jumpsuit that he has.
12:02But the jacket version of Jim Carrey, I don't think they'd have to do all that much.
12:06Obviously, a different style body, but a similar style, if not identical, headsculpt.
12:10Those I hope are two future releases we're going to get from the folks over at McFarland
12:14Toys.
12:16True to form, it is a pretty decent looking Riddler, if though to be a stickler to details.
12:20Like in the movie, you'll notice that his jumpsuit actually attaches around his fingers.
12:24So he should technically have more green running up the side of his sleeve, not just bare hands.
12:29He does though, at least come in clear with his cane, has also a little bomb back.
12:33Doesn't come with a bag.
12:34I don't think he necessarily needs the bag either.
12:35It holds all the bombs.
12:36It's a decent looking Riddler with some decent levels of posability.
12:39Unfortunately though, that same posability means that some of the details do get sacrificed
12:44with those shoulder joints, those little cup pieces that cover over those joints.
12:48Unfortunately, it does mean that all the kind of question marks have to be closer in quarters.
12:52He seems to have a lot more than he really needs and what he has, they're so squished
12:56together.
12:57I wish they could have spread them out just a little bit more.
12:59If they can't occupy the space in his shoulders, at the very least, I think he should have
13:03had a whole lot less on his body.
13:05Just looks like he's riddled with questions, kind of very similar to the way he would have
13:08been in the movie.
13:09Now, again, I already stated, I would have loved to see this guy get released again,
13:13and I'm sure that's some plan that they've got down the road to do a platinum edition
13:17Riddler, maybe two versions if we're lucky.
13:19If we don't get necessarily the jacket one, I hope at the very least we get the white
13:22suit Riddler, because I really liked that look of him before, of course, his head gets
13:26elongated in size.
13:28I think just before that though, it's a pretty neat looking design for Riddler.
13:31Riddle me this, riddle me that.
13:34Let me know down below in the comment section if you guys have had the chance to find any
13:38of these.
13:39I know that's not necessarily more of a riddle.
13:40It's just more of a question.
13:41Have you guys had any luck to find these in the wild?
13:43If you haven't, of course, there's always the option of going to places like Entertainment
13:47Earth.
13:48Right now they do have pre-orders, but they're slated to drop in September.
13:51Again, that was the option I was originally going to have until I was lucky enough to
13:54find these in the wild.
13:56Of course, making sure if you guys did enjoy this video, it helps, you could do it a solid
14:01by hitting a like.
14:02You guys want to stick around for more so?
14:04I hope so.
14:05We're still going to be doing the reviews of Two-Face and also Robin.
14:08I don't know which order we're going to be looking at that.
14:09It doesn't really matter because we now have a body.
14:11We now have a bat head and we, of course, have a display stand to have the severed winged
14:16bat, at least for right now, suspended until eventually we add the wings.
14:20Yes, those two reviews will be coming your way.
14:22Make sure you're coming back on a regular basis.
14:23As always, thanks for watching.
14:25See you guys next time.
