00:00In the ongoing eruption of Vulcan Canlaon,
00:03it is estimated that more than 1,000 tons of ash were released every day.
00:11FIVOC reminded the affected residents
00:14that some areas around the volcano are experiencing volcanic smog or VANG.
00:21The agency pointed out that the situation is getting worse
00:25in areas affected by the new typhoon
00:29that is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
00:32This is what Ryan Leziguez reported.
00:37The chances of a magmatic eruption are really increasing.
00:41The volcanic eruption of Vulcan Canlaon continues to emit degassing or sulfur dioxide gas.
00:46In this video taken by FIVOC,
00:48the white smoke is visible coming out of the volcano.
00:51This is an indication that the chances of a magmatic eruption are still high.
00:57In the latest FIVOC data,
00:59the volcanic sulfur dioxide gas emission from the mouth of the volcano has increased.
01:04Yesterday,
01:05the new record of the highest volcanic sulfur dioxide gas emission recorded by the volcano,
01:11which reached more than 11,000 tons a day,
01:15was reported by Vulcan Canlaon.
01:17This is far from 300 tons a day if the volcano is at the unrest level.
01:23Our challenge with Vulcan Canlaon is that we don't have a blueprint for a past magmatic eruption.
01:30We don't know how a magmatic eruption in Vulcan Canlaon will progress
01:37because we haven't experienced it yet.
01:40Unlike now, when we have a lot of experience.
01:46Since more than 300 volcanic earthquakes,
01:50this has increased to 73 in the past magmatic eruption.
01:53But this is not an indication that the volcanic eruption is going down.
01:58Our baseline for Vulcan Canlaon is in the quiet sense.
02:05It's only between 0 to 5.
02:09If it's at a moderate level of unrest,
02:13it's around 20 to 30.
02:17So, it's a low number.
02:19But now, we're counting it as almost 100.
02:22Feebox reminded the public that the area near Vulcan Canlaon,
02:26which is as much as possible, is limited to outdoor activities.
02:29This is because of the spread of volcanic fog due to the ongoing eruption of Vulcan Canlaon.
02:35Feebox said that if they can't avoid going out,
02:39they should use N95 face masks.
02:42Or drink a lot of water to reduce throat irritation or constriction.
02:47For now, there are areas affected by sulfuric fumes.
02:51This includes Barangay San Miguel, La Carlota City,
02:54Barangay Masulog, Barangay Pula, Canlaon City,
02:57Barangay Kudkud, San Carlos City, and Barangay Inulingan, Moises, Padilla.
03:02Feebox particularly warned individuals with health conditions
03:06such as asthma, lung disease, old people, pregnant women, and children.
03:11The prolonged exposure to volcanic smog
03:13can cause irritation to the eyes and respiratory tract.
03:17Aside from the possible magmatic eruption,
03:19Feebox also pointed out the lahar flow,
03:22especially when a new typhoon is about to enter,
03:24which can bring a lot of rain.
03:26Feebox said that it's more dangerous if the typhoon,
03:30rain, and eruption of Vulcan are at the same time.
03:33These are called syn-eruption lahars.
03:36They are more damaging than normal lahars.
03:41Because it's hot.
03:43It's hot.
03:45It's more erosive.
03:47It's more damaging.
03:50So when it's damaging, the lahar grows bigger.
03:55And it's hot.
03:58It can burn your skin.
04:00The volcano is still at alert level 2.
04:04Ryan Lizigues,
04:06for Pambansang TV in the new Philippines.
