00:00I was actually working from a place of utter fear and terror
00:04that I would ruin my career trying to do this, so I...
00:08Are you serious?
00:09Yeah, 1,000%. Yeah.
00:10I watched compulsively only Chevy Chase for a couple months.
00:16But the thing that I actually was most nervous about...
00:19You know, you can watch someone...
00:21There's so much out there of Chevy.
00:23Like, I could watch and I could try to embody what he's doing
00:27and replicate that, but what we don't know,
00:30and what you spend a lot of time in in this film,
00:31is watching these people not performing, but living.
00:35And so it's like, oh, wow, what is that person like?
00:38You know, in Chevy's case, he gets embarrassed a bit.
00:40And I'm like, yeah, but I don't know what Chevy looks like
00:43in a really vulnerable state.
00:44And then I was watching interviews with him,
00:47and there's some great Dick Cavett interviews,
00:50but his first time on Johnny Carson,
00:53he comes out and he's really nervous.
00:55He's this young guy, really nervous.
00:59And Johnny asks him a question, and he answers with,
01:04I do, and it has nothing to do with the question.
01:09And everyone pauses, and Johnny laughs in his face suddenly,
01:13and everyone is just laughing at Chevy.
01:15And he's like flustered, and Johnny's like,
01:17let me tell you this is gonna work.
01:18I wanna ask you a question, and you're gonna answer
01:23in relation to that question.
01:24And he goes, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:25And I was like, oh my God, that's like, that's it.
01:29So it was like finding these little nuggets
01:31where you can actually see like,
01:33oh, that's Chevy humiliated, and I can use that.
