00:30The most notable symptom is a person having at least two distinct identities.
00:34Other symptoms include, Dissociative amnesia,
00:37memory loss beyond normal forgetfulness that isn't due to a medical condition.
00:41Dissociative fugue, memory gaps involving personal info,
00:44sometimes with wandering or emotional detachment.
00:46Blurred identity, feeling like multiple people are in your head or feeling possessed by other
00:51identities. Cultural practices involving possession as part of spiritual rituals
00:55aren't considered dissociative disorders.

01:00When interacting with someone with DID, you might feel like you're talking to
01:03several different people as they switch between personalities.
01:06Each identity usually has its own name, background, and unique traits like age,
01:11gender, or even physical characteristics.

01:19DID often develops as a coping mechanism for trauma.
01:22According to the American Psychiatric Association, 90% of people with DID in the US,
01:27Canada, and Europe have experienced childhood neglect or abuse.

01:32The main treatment is psychotherapy, where you talk with a mental health
01:35professional to understand and cope with the disorder.
01:38Hypnosis can sometimes be helpful. While there's no specific medication for DID,
01:42doctors might prescribe anti-anxiety meds, anti-psychotics,
01:45or antidepressants for related symptoms.
