00:00The University of Santo Tomas and a private company have reached an agreement
00:06that will further enhance the capabilities of the next medical technology professionals in the country.
00:13This is what Rod Laguzar has to say.
00:17The medical technology students should be industry-ready or ready for the profession they will enter.
00:23This is the line of coordination of a private healthcare company and a university.
00:27After reaching an agreement in a Memorandum of Understanding.
00:30To help the students through the module provided by the Safar Distributors Incorporated
00:36and the University of Santo Tomas.
00:38The module is there to further enhance the capabilities of the next medical technology professionals.
00:43Medical technology is about the practice of laboratory medicine
00:47where it is part of the process of samples
00:50which is a big help in diagnosis and treatment.
00:53We realized together that there are many gaps in the practice of medical technology that I mentioned earlier.
01:01And there has to be a different approach in addressing these gaps.
01:05We believe that we cannot do it by ourselves.
01:09Where there are already new technologies that are safer,
01:12that will deliver more quality results that are practiced in the developed regions of the world
01:17that definitely can accelerate here in the Philippines.
01:21This will start with those who will study in the 4th year or internship in the UST.
01:25That will follow the implementation of the incoming freshmen students.
01:29Not only practical but more technical and professional
01:34because they will not only learn the practical part or the technical part
01:39but also they will be learning the art and the science
01:43of executing the procedures that are being done in the laboratory
01:47and complementing what they have learned in the classroom.
01:51This will also help to further enhance the capabilities of the students
01:55especially if there is an actual opportunity to use the equipment and actual procedures inside the laboratory.
02:01The module will also be modified or changed while it is being implemented.
02:04In the end, the UST also plans to distribute this to other schools
02:08that can be the basis of the best practice in the future.
02:12Rod Laguzad for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
