As a tropical rainstorm moves east, parts of the Gulf Coast and Southeast can expect days of flooding rain.
Transcript
00:00The rain's really been coming down in many of these areas.
00:02Yeah, dangerous flooding right there.
00:03You can see it doesn't take much to wipe cars off the road.
00:06And once again, we always stress, turn around, don't drown.
00:08You definitely don't want to be driving in the conditions like this.
00:11It could stall your vehicle out.
00:12You can have vehicle damage.
00:14And unfortunately, you don't want to have end up having to have first responders
00:17come out to pick you up.
00:19All right, so let's go and take you live right now to New Orleans.
00:21And as right now, we have wet roads.
00:24Some people have umbrellas.
00:25So a little bit of an improvement over yesterday, Jeff.
00:27But we will start to see some heavier rainfall moving in
00:30as we head into this evening.
00:31Yeah, and right now, it's kind of a light to moderate rain in the Big Easy.
00:34But the rain's heavier elsewhere.
00:36There's actually a flash flood warning that was extended by two extra hours
00:40up in the northeast corner of Louisiana.
00:43So east and west Carroll Parish, northern parts of Richland Parish
00:46and all of Morehouse Parish still under a flash flood warning
00:49with light to moderate rain continuing on the heels of the very heavy rain earlier.
00:53And the rain's also going to be moving east.
00:56Right now, we're dealing with a band of heavy rain and thunderstorms
00:58up into the area near Gainesville, a little bit of lightning near Jacksonville.
01:02Orlando, we got an nasty storm that's popped up on the northwest side of town
01:05up near Apopka, turning the lightning off here.
01:07You can see what's going on there.
01:09And thankfully, we're dry in Tampa and St. Pete.
01:12And I'll show you why it's a good thing in just a moment.
01:15There is a thunderstorm or shower popping off to the north of the city, though.
01:19So when we look at current temperatures,
01:20some of you have really been cooled down nicely by the rain.
01:22Jackson, Mississippi is a hot spot this week.
01:25You're down to 78 now.
01:27Raleigh has the nicest weather in the region at 78 and dry.
01:31But we are still at 90 up in Little Rock, 91 into Nashville.
01:34And we're kind of recovering from what's been some drenching,
01:38drenching rain in Tampa and St. Petersburg.
01:41Pinellas County, Hillsborough County here, just way too much rain.
01:45Four to eight inches of rain has fallen across most of this major metropolitan area
01:50over the past couple of days.
01:51And so far this month, it's only the fifth of the month here,
01:56we've already had 8.83 inches of rain.
01:58In a typical whole month of September, we have six inches of rain.
02:02And sometimes that's with the help of tropical systems.
02:04So it has been way too wet there, thankfully a little drier now.
02:08A lot of rain will continue to fall in areas near I-10 tonight
02:11with drenching rainfall and some thunderstorms.
02:14And as this system slides east, a tropical rainstorm
02:17is going to continue to hammer places like Louisiana,
02:19southern and eastern Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, northwest Florida,
02:23especially through the next 24 to 36 hours.
02:26Fast forward to Saturday, rain a little more restricted to near I-10,
02:30the Florida Panhandle, and parts of eastern Carolinas, the eastern Carolinas.
02:35So again, Friday, this second shade of blue is the steady,
02:38second shade is green, I should say, is the steadiest rain.
02:41But there will be some thunderstorms that still add to that surplus
02:44in the Tampa metro on Friday.
02:46And Saturday, the heaviest of the rain,
02:48north Florida, southern Alabama, south Georgia.
02:51Some of you in southern Louisiana will see eight plus inches of rain,
02:55the fourth shade of green, eight to 12 inches of rain
02:57between what happened last night, plus today, plus the next two days to come.
03:01Way too much rain, at least it gets a little more restricted into the day on Saturday.
03:06So, Damian, in the northeast, we're going to go in the opposite direction
03:09from dry, beautiful weather to wetter.
03:11That's right, that same weather system that's going to clear out the southern states,
03:14it's going to bring that rainfall, heavy rainfall for some,
03:17and cooler air here as we head into the weekend.
