00:43for violating the Philippine Competition Act.

00:46In the Dawn Raid conducted in September 2023, the Philippine Competition Commission Enforcement Office

00:51opened the cartel of onions to the court and the so-called negotiators.

00:56They exchanged sensitive information to manipulate the supply and price of onions.

01:06These entities involved are really talking.

01:10We saw it in the emails, in the exchange of communication, who are their suppliers,

01:17when will the shipment arrive, how many SPSICs will they apply,

01:23when will the imports and what is the volume.

01:29Based on the information obtained by the Philippine Competition Commission Enforcement Office,

01:32the cartel started in 2019 and may be involved in the 2022 onion crisis.

01:39When the price of onions went up to more than P700.

01:48They contributed because all the cartels, when they are there,

01:52the effect is that the price goes up or the volume that is circulating in the market goes down.

02:03The violation of Section 14 of the Philippine Competition Act was committed by 12 importers and traders

02:10and was fined P2.4 billion.

02:14The Bureau of Plant Industry said that the so-called importers were already banned

02:22The Department of Agriculture said that it is important that the importers are already banned or blacklisted

02:29so that they will not be included in the importation of onions.

02:34Moreover, there is a permit to import 16,000 metric tons of white onions for this September.
