Three doctors in Penang and 30 other suspects have been remanded over their alleged links to a cartel involved in falsifying Social Security Organisation (Socso) disability claims.

It is understood that the doctors are from two public hospitals and a private hospital in Seberang Prai.

00:00Three senior doctors and 30 other suspects arrested for allegedly making false SOCSO
00:07claims were brought to the court in Georgetown on Wednesday to be remanded.
00:12The 32 men and a woman, aged between 26 and 60, were brought in five MACC vans under heavy
00:18security at 9 a.m.
00:21Magistrate Nadratun Naeem Mohammed Saeedi ordered the three doctors to be remanded for
00:26two days while the woman for one day to assist with investigations under Section 18 of the
00:32MACC Act 2009.
00:35The other suspects were ordered to be remanded for three days.
00:38The doctors were arrested by the MACC to facilitate investigations into allegations of falsifying
00:44disability claims by SOCSO.
00:47It is understood that they are from two public hospitals and a private hospital in Seberang
00:52Prai.
00:53These are the Seberang Jaya Hospital, Bukit Mertajam Hospital, and the Bagan Specialist
00:58Hospital.
00:59The other suspects are 19 SOCSO contributors, eight agents, and three runners who were picked
01:05up during a series of raids conducted by the MACC.
01:09MACC Chief Tansri Azambaki had said that most of the detained contributors are employed
01:15in the factory and port sectors in the state.
01:18The arrests came after Penang Senator Dr. R. A. Lingeswaran called on the government,
01:23particularly the Human Resources Ministry, to explain the alleged suspension of senior
01:28doctors handling SOCSO disability claims purportedly linked to a cartel in the state.
01:34He was said to have told the Day One Negara that the panel was suspended until further
01:38notice after SOCSO discovered the racket at a hospital in Penang.
