00:00Former Law Minister Zayed Ibrahim has called for Sarawak to take the lead in national politics,
00:07suggesting that the state could become a beacon of hope amid persistent socio-political challenges.
00:13He said that many of the good Malaysians left in the 1970s to join the Singapore Civil Service
00:19and highlighted that teachers, professionals and skilled workers continue to leave the
00:24country.
00:25Zayed said Malaysia had been on a decline for 50 years, partly as a result of the focus
00:31on race, religion and royalty issues.
00:34He also said there is growing religious policing in daily life, alleging that JAKIM officers
00:39are now tasked with ensuring sharia compliance in government departments.
00:44He said the solution is no longer to be found in the peninsula and emphasised that Sarawak's
00:49leadership must now take charge of determining the direction of national leadership.
00:55He said Sarawak must no longer merely align with any groupings decided by the peninsula,
01:00but should actively choose the one with policies best suited for Malaysia's future and take
01:05the lead in the nation's recovery before it is too late.
