00:00Barca Nacional has decided on its candidate for the upcoming Makota state by-election

00:07in Johor, its chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamadi said today.

00:11He said he will make an official announcement in due course, adding that the matter will

00:15be discussed at the Unity Government Secretariat meeting next week.

00:20The by-election, to be held on September 28, follows the death of Avno Assemblyman Sharifa

00:25Aziza Saeed Zain on August 2 while receiving treatment in hospital for internal bleeding.

00:31Zahid, who is also the Avno president, reiterated that the principle of incumbency will guide

00:37the selection of the contesting party for the by-election.

00:41He said this principle is very much respected by the component parties of the Unity Government

00:46and will be the basis for selecting the candidate for the Makota by-election.

00:50Zahid had previously warned other Unity Government coalition partners not to demand to contest

00:55the seat.

00:56Kluang Amanah had lobbied for the seat, prompting brickbats from several Avno leaders.
