00:00And we will now hear about the situation in the dams.
00:03We will now listen to Hydrologist Rosalie Pagulayan.
00:08Ma'am Rosalie, good evening. This is PR Kanghel.
00:10Hello, good evening Ms. Pia and to our listeners here tonight.
00:17Ma'am Rosalie, how are you with the Bustos Dam?
00:20We saw in the report of Chino Gaston the loss of water earlier.
00:24What are the areas affected by the loss of water in the Bustos Dam?
00:30Okay, so if there is a loss of water,
00:33I will just correct it because this Bustos Dam does not have what we call flood control components.
00:42So what we call overflow is the elevation where the rubber gates will deflate.
00:51So the areas that will be affected,
00:55this is the Floridel, Bustos, Floridel, so all of that up to Tikapao.
01:01Okay, so this is what will be affected, right?
01:05If that already overflowed, earlier it already had an overflow.
01:10So this Bustos, Baliwag, Floridel, Pulilan, portion of Calumpit, and Hagunoy up to Taumbung.
01:21Alright, so if the Bustos Dam does not have flood control components,
01:24what are the dams that we are monitoring because of the flood control components?
01:29Okay, now the Bustos Dam is also open, right?
01:33So actually this Bustos Dam and the Bustos Dam are cascading.
01:39So before the Bustos Dam overflowed, there was a big river, the Bayabas River,
01:47that could also add up to the inflow going to the Bustos.
01:50So if we look at it, there was a strong rain, not because Ipo overflowed,
01:56but because there was rain along the Angat River.
02:01So that's why there were floods that we experienced,
02:05in spite of the fact that Ipo only had a small loss.
02:09The Ambuklao and Vinga Dam are also open.
02:13So this is a cascading dam, the Ambuklao, Vinga, and San Roque.
02:17So all of the water from Ambuklao and Vinga is lost in the Saluhini-Vinga,
02:24and Vinga in the Saluhini-San Roque, which at this time is still a bit low.
02:29It is still at least 25 meters away from its ceiling elevation.
02:35So we are also closely monitoring the Magat Dam.
02:38This is in the region 2.
02:42So actually, this Magat Dam, the water that comes out of it is from the car,
02:47a portion of the car which is in Ipugao, and this is Bayambang,
02:52this is Nueva Vizcaya, and a portion of Quirino.
02:56So that's why we are closely monitoring it at this time,
03:00because Magat has a large watershed area,
03:04but its reservoir area is small.
03:08So it's easy to fill, it's very sensitive, especially since it's a bit high.
03:14Because as of this morning, it's only 5, less than 6 meters or 7 meters away
03:23from its ceiling elevation of 190.0 meters.
03:27So if that's the case, Ma'am Rosalie,
03:29it means that there needs to be close coordination between you and the LGUs affected.
03:35Yes, Ma'am.
03:36If we have inclement weather conditions like this,
03:40we will not lose our coordination when we give updates,
03:45not only with the dam offices, but also with the local government units.
03:50So it's important, based on our experience in the past,
03:55to prepare early in order to avoid the severe flooding
04:03that may cause the affected residents to evacuate.
04:08Yes, Ma'am.
04:10Alright, thank you very much.
04:12As Hydrologist Rosalie Pagulayan, good evening to you.
04:16Good evening.
