00:00:00On the wing, Harrison winning his 13th cap for England, and the referee, Rene Ulke, waiting
00:00:29for the signal from the television engineer on the touchline to get this game underway.
00:00:37Asking the Welsh keeper, Richard Moriarty, if he's ready to receive.
00:00:45The 93rd match between Wales and England about to get underway in the most unusual circumstances
00:00:52at Ballymore Park, and it's England, Webb, to kick off.
00:00:57Almost an orthodox kick-off, Robert Jones shadowing the ball down as it goes over the
00:01:02touchline in the in-goal area, and so it'll be a drop-out to Wales.
00:01:07And you'll notice there, Brevin Bowen, who's had all kinds of hamstring problems since
00:01:12arriving in New Zealand, is very heavily strapped up.
00:01:15Brevin Bowen in the centre for his 14th cap.
00:01:22Jonathan Davies biding his time.
00:01:25Neat little drop-out for his forwards to run on to Dooley, gets a hand to it, Dean Richards
00:01:29is through there for England, as England drive down towards the Welsh 22.
00:01:33It's good ball out for the England strikers, back to William, the left-footed Hoyt.
00:01:38Foreman seems to be momentarily out of position, and he's anxious, finally.
00:01:44Rene Ulke's decision is gun-fly for the Welsh defence.
00:01:48Hit this away then, no, it's going to be a drop-out.
00:01:53And here's the action replay, Hedlund and Bowen as caravans.
00:01:56Yes, it's not very reassuring for the Welsh defence there, but an excellent kick by Peter
00:01:59Williams, and I thought they've obviously looked at this tactic and how they're going
00:02:02to prepare for the game, put a lot of pressure on both forward and pull-back.
00:02:07During the action replay, Wales dropped out from the 22, a long drop-out, but it was returned
00:02:12with some interest by John Webb, the England pull-back, and so it's a line-out on the 10-metre
00:02:17line, just inside the England half.
00:02:20David Young there, winning his first cap.
00:02:22Bob Norster, the experienced British line.
00:02:27Phillips with a throw, finds Norster, the carded combination working in the line-out.
00:02:30Jonathan Davies, returning the compliment, the high up and under, Richards is unrelated
00:02:35for England, but it's offside.
00:02:38John Devereux, a judge to be in front of the ball after the kick.
00:02:41So it'll be Peter Williams, the England outside half, some 10 metres, outside is 22.
00:02:54Left footed that time, and that's a lovely kick from Williams, eating up the distances.
00:03:01Tony Gray in the stand, these are early moments, anxious moments for him.
00:03:11Wade Dooley, six foot seven.
00:03:17Phillips to throw.
00:03:20Redmond jumping at the front for England.
00:03:22This one goes to the tail of the line-out.
00:03:24Moriarty takes it, a good take by Wales.
00:03:26Good clean drive from them, if they can get the ball back to Robert Jones.
00:03:29Jones on the catch, his opposite number, offside.
00:03:33That's Richard Harding of Bristol.
00:03:36Webb is underneath it, but it's a penalty to Wales.
00:03:39Referee quite intelligently, waiting for the advantage, but then signalling that
00:03:43Harding had gone offside after that disguise by Robert Jones.
00:03:48Jonathan Davies again.
00:03:55That's a fine looking kick from Jonathan Davies, gaining some 23 metres.
00:03:59Martin Green, the England coach.
00:04:01So it's Brian Moore of Nottingham, running his fourth cap for England.
00:04:07Take a look around to see what options have opened.
00:04:09That's one of them, Dooley in the middle.
00:04:11Dooley doesn't quite get a hold of that one.
00:04:13The Welsh rummage around, but the whistle's gone from the referees, the croquet, and it's
00:04:19the Welsh crumb just inside the England half.
00:04:24Now the two sides tend to toy with each other with these high up and unders in the
00:04:28The two sides tend to toy with each other with these high up and unders in the early
00:04:32exchanges.
00:04:32There's a collapse of the crumb, and the referee will take a very, very close look at that.
00:04:38Naturally enough, the Welsh crumb under a great deal of pressure in the front row.
00:04:42A lot of inexperience at this level, Buchanan and Young especially.
00:04:48This time, it's a free kick to England.
00:04:51Bernie Urquhart having spotted illegalities in the front row.
00:04:59So it's Paul Williams, the outside half,
00:05:05punishing Wales for that indiscretion in the scrum.
00:05:09One really does wonder how much pressure there will be in the scrummages on Young, David
00:05:15Young, who was snatched from the Western Suburbs club in Canberra.
00:05:19That's a very late replacement in the Welsh crumb.
00:05:24Phillips with a throw, looking for Norster.
00:05:27Up goes Moriarty, but it's lost Paul Redman, trying to do some coverage work for England.
00:05:32Lays the ball back, and certainly there's no love lost, as England have the ball.
00:05:38Wade goes to Underwood, who's come across from the wing to Webb.
00:05:41This is the paceman, Webb, rushing away, one tackle, but the movement breaking down midway
00:05:48between the 22 and the halfway line.
00:05:50And an indication there, Gareth Davies, that England are quite prepared to run the ball
00:05:54with extra men coming in from all directions.
00:05:56That's right, he was England's strength, really.
00:05:58Rory Underwood and Harrington, two of the finest wings in British rugby,
00:06:01and he certainly used Underwood there from the blind side.
00:06:04Robert Jones waiting.
00:06:06Jonathan Davies, outside is 22, so the kick will have to be a careful one.
00:06:11It looks a good one.
00:06:13Jonathan Davies, splendid kick from the far side, reading the bounce of the ball well.
00:06:19Welsh for a paceman, and reserves.
00:06:26So the line-out throws have come from Brian Moore, 25-year-old booker of England, from Nottingham.
00:06:38And there's a familiar chant around Balliball Park, Wales, Wales, encouraging the red shirts on.
00:06:46And it's a change to see Wales playing in red shirts actually.
00:06:49Twice they've had a play in green against Tonga and Canada.
00:06:53More throws.
00:06:54Dooley, the towering policeman at the back.
00:06:57And Wales in their eagerness to go through, infringing at the line-out.
00:07:07Peter Williams, the England outside half.
00:07:10Father played for Tenetti, as did the father of his opposite number, Jonathan Davies.
00:07:16And the line-out on the 10-metre line.
00:07:21Six and a half minutes of this first half gone.
00:07:23No score at Balliball Park.
00:07:25Richard Moriarty, the Welsh captain.
00:07:27There's the main line-out target, Robert Forster.
00:07:34Phillips, lobs that one.
00:07:36It's well taken by Richard Moriarty that time.
00:07:38The drive is on from the red shirts.
00:07:40Collins there, giving support on the open side as Wales move over the 10-metre line.
00:07:46England doing well, though, to halt the surge by the Welsh.
00:07:51And referee Rene Urquhart deciding that the ball would not come out of there.
00:07:54And so a ward was scrummed.
00:07:57The Welsh put in just inside the Welsh half.
00:08:06Sunshine conditions at Balliball Park,
00:08:08as Robert Jones puts the ball in.
00:08:10And this one is back against their head.
00:08:12Harding to Winterbottom.
00:08:13Winterbottom to Dean Richards.
00:08:15Richards is grounded on the 10-metre line.
00:08:17England anxious to get hold of the ball.
00:08:19And a little bit of friction as Buchanan goes through.
00:08:22Rather indisciplined action.
00:08:26And Buchanan is penalised that time.
00:08:29Richie Collins is the man on the ground.
00:08:34The kick against the head there, which Harding used well on the blind side.
00:08:37And Winterbottom feeds back inside to Richards.
00:08:39And that's probably been the strength of England's side during the World Cup.
00:08:42And here we see then Buchanan coming in rather ill-disciplined.
00:08:45And possibly the penalty was against Richie Collins for trying to handle the ball on the ground.
00:08:50But I think we see the strength of the English forwards driving through again,
00:08:53which made the ball available for Harding.
00:08:55But unfortunately, Buchanan rather over-vigorously stepped in.
00:09:00So problems for the Welsh.
00:09:02They've been plagued by injuries since arriving in New Zealand.
00:09:07Having sent Billy James back first of all.
00:09:12Then the tragic departure of Geoff Whitefoot as well.
00:09:15And of course, Stuart Evans.
00:09:18And rather significant there, Martin.
00:09:20The first strike against the head.
00:09:21So from Wales's point of view,
00:09:23that'll obviously be fairly disappointing with too many members in the front row.
00:09:27Richie Collins, his fourth cap for Wales.
00:09:32And a double international.
00:09:34Young basketball international as well as a senior rugby international.
00:09:38It seems to be okay.
00:09:39That's good news for the Welsh camp.
00:09:43Meanwhile though, it's Webb.
00:09:47Having kicked 40 points for England in this competition.
00:09:53And pointing the ball towards the post.
00:09:56And he's going out from a very foggy cabbage patch.
00:10:00Webb, he's struck it well, but it's a bit short.
00:10:02Phil Warren, just falling to the right of the post.
00:10:06And the ball being marshalled through and shadowed by fourth Auburn.
00:10:13Jonathan Davies then to restart.
00:10:20Wales really haven't had sufficient possession to launch any kind of attack
00:10:26against the England three quarters.
00:10:28And this is dangerous play.
00:10:29But this is an opportunity in broken play.
00:10:31Gerrard.
00:10:31Happy comes to Iain Evans.
00:10:33Iain Evans up to the pen, middle line.
00:10:34Over the half way line, he's got the football to Freddie Bowen.
00:10:39Oh, Iain Evans doing exceptionally well that time.
00:10:42But what was rather noticeable, Gareth Davies,
00:10:44that Freddie Bowen inside him was struggling to gather pace.
00:10:46Yes, I think it's quite significant that his hamstring is quite heavily strapped.
00:10:50And it's obviously a disappointing sign for Wales.
00:10:53But they showed a lot of initiative there,
00:10:54whether they moved the quick ball after a mistake.
00:10:59The show coming from Moore and the two-handed catch by Redmond.
00:11:03But the whistle of referee Rene Urquhart
00:11:06giving England a scrum midway between the English 22 and the halfway line.
00:11:12Ten and a half minutes gone on this first half.
00:11:14Still no score.
00:11:17Robert Jones, this time a clean heel for Wales.
00:11:21That's the 10 metre line to his left.
00:11:23The box kick is meant for Iain Evans.
00:11:25But I don't think he read the signal because he certainly didn't charge up on it.
00:11:28And that one is going out on the floor.
00:11:30So back they come.
00:11:34So certainly a little bit of nervousness.
00:11:37A bit of tenseness as well in the Welsh camp.
00:11:41The signal's not quite being read between scrum half and wing that time.
00:11:45This is Moriarty jumping at number two in the line-out.
00:11:49Brian Moore, looking for Dooley.
00:11:58Dooley sort of getting a hand to it that time.
00:12:00But it wasn't the cleverest of balls.
00:12:03And Richard Harding won't thank Wade Dooley for that kind of possession.
00:12:10So midway between the 22 and the halfway line.
00:12:12Robert Jones once again.
00:12:14So far the Welsh scrimmage having conceded one.
00:12:18Holding up there under a great deal of pressure.
00:12:20You can see the writhing and the wriggling going on.
00:12:22Jonathan Davies.
00:12:23That's a lovely kick up.
00:12:25Webb is underneath it.
00:12:26He's into the sunshine as well.
00:12:28Up go the Welsh three quarters.
00:12:33Webb took that extremely well into the sunshine.
00:12:37And seems to have been shaken a bit.
00:12:39But that was brave play by the young Bristol player, John Webb.
00:12:45Excellent play by Webb there.
00:12:46But it's quite significant.
00:12:47I think that Wilsor probably looked at this play.
00:12:48Webb isn't renowned for his safety under the high ball.
00:12:51And I think that's a prepared tactic by Webb.
00:12:55Webb gets his kick away after the mark was awarded.
00:12:58And it's a fine kick too.
00:12:59But he may have been hurt in the process.
00:13:02John Devereux going up there extremely fast.
00:13:05And he's a big man, Devereux.
00:13:09And it was an excellent kick by Jonathan Davies.
00:13:12I think the way he looked at it.
00:13:13He just sat back and looked and admired his kick.
00:13:15And Devereux, I think, did justice to it.
00:13:17And he's obviously caused Webb some problems.
00:13:21Webb seems to be OK for the moment.
00:13:24But after that kick and the touch,
00:13:26it's going to be a line-out some 10 metres outside the 22.
00:13:30Simon Phillips who had some problems with the line-out signals against Canada.
00:13:34That's all been sorted out with these strenuous training sessions
00:13:37that the Welsh have had since arriving in Australia.
00:13:41That's Lobs.
00:13:42Lobs gets up high but it's England ball.
00:13:44Harding outside of Williams.
00:13:47Salmon is there.
00:13:49As England look for the second possession.
00:13:51Comes out to Sims.
00:13:52To Webb on the far side.
00:13:53It's touched by a Welsh hand.
00:13:55So England not make the most of that possession.
00:13:59And much credit too to the Welsh cover defence getting across field
00:14:02and blocking the path of the two England centres, Kevin Sims and Jamie Salmon.
00:14:12The line-out again on the far side.
00:14:14Ball so short this time.
00:14:17The ball goes back on the Welsh side.
00:14:19Dick Moriarty leading on to Buchanan.
00:14:21But a knock-on at the crucial stage that time.
00:14:24A little bit of friction between Gary Rees and Paul Moriarty.
00:14:27Nothing serious.
00:14:28They're saying good day to each other.
00:14:35Harding.
00:14:37Well known to Welsh reporters.
00:14:39And the wheel of the Stum coming for the Welsh.
00:14:41It's back to the Welsh side.
00:14:42Jonathan Davies attempted drop goal.
00:14:44Is it there?
00:14:45It's gone to the right of the post.
00:14:47No excitement from Rene Urquhart.
00:14:49And we know about the capability of Jonathan Davies with his drop goals.
00:14:54Has scored three in this competition so far.
00:15:01So a little bit of pressure for Wales after 14 and a half minutes of play.
00:15:06Not the greatest of games so far by any means.
00:15:10John Webb.
00:15:12Dooley goes up high.
00:15:14Buchanan struggles for possession.
00:15:17As England put the drive on.
00:15:18That's David Young.
00:15:21Jonathan Davies.
00:15:22That's attempting one for Webb to get underneath.
00:15:25Underwood that is there giving cover as well.
00:15:26Dean Richards trying to get hold of the ball.
00:15:29And it goes on to the Welsh side.
00:15:30Play on.
00:15:31No offside that time.
00:15:33As Wales drive towards the England line.
00:15:36Looking for the possession.
00:15:37And Rene Urquhart decides that it's going to be a slump.
00:15:43And Wales with the forward momentum.
00:15:46Worried.
00:15:47Mr Green with Wales pressurising the England dry line.
00:15:52And yet another injury.
00:15:54Well obviously the last couple of minutes the best period for Wales, Gareth Davies.
00:15:58Yes very much so.
00:15:59And I think Jonathan again.
00:16:00Jonathan Davies with a little neat up and under come chip through the middle of the defence.
00:16:04Which caught England.
00:16:05And guarded.
00:16:06And excellent work by Gareth Roberts as well.
00:16:08Who was quickly on to the ball.
00:16:09It's a feature of some of the other teams that have done well in the competition.
00:16:13The success of their back row.
00:16:14And here we see the ball being taken there by Gareth Roberts.
00:16:18Driving forward looking to stand on his feet.
00:16:20Which is obviously very important.
00:16:22And the Welsh forwards driving through as well.
00:16:23So it's nice to see the whole team there as one.
00:16:28Unfortunately at the end the ball was not forward.
00:16:30And the resultant scum to England.
00:16:32Mansehiko Cannon receiving the magic sponge and the magic potions.
00:16:38Harvard to the Jones and rejoins his colleagues Aaron Phillips and David Young in the front row.
00:16:44Wales need to put on a bit of pressure in this scrum to gain anything from it.
00:16:49The advantage of scrummaging advantage certainly with England so far in this match.
00:16:53But the whip around coming from the Welsh.
00:16:55Making life difficult for Richard Harding.
00:16:56Gets his pass away.
00:16:58And a fine relieving kick and a touch.
00:17:00Half time from Peter Williams of Aral and Lancashire.
00:17:10So Alan Phillips with the throw in.
00:17:15Moving towards 17 minutes of play in this first half.
00:17:19Richard Collins at the back of the line-out for Wales.
00:17:22Redman goes through.
00:17:23The penalty and a little bit of indiscipline by the Welsh.
00:17:27And they'll do that fact by possibly having worked so hard to get up inside the England 22 to give it away.
00:17:35Oh some confusion in the ranks from René Urquhage.
00:17:41Oh certainly we thought he'd decided or watched the Welsh infringement.
00:17:45But he's given the penalty to Wales.
00:17:47And he's given the penalty to England.
00:17:49Oh certainly we thought he'd decided or watched the Welsh infringement.
00:17:52But he's given the penalty to Wales.
00:17:53So this is quite dramatic I'd say.
00:17:55Yes I thought it was rather strange because it was an untidy line-out.
00:17:58But my feelings were that the Welsh were infringed upon.
00:18:00And to see the penalty to England was rather puzzling.
00:18:02But a French interpretation there I think which caught us all caught us all out.
00:18:07Oh certainly we'll have to watch the signals of René Urquhage very carefully.
00:18:13Good day Wales from Linden Cap.
00:18:15And here's Paul Thorburn hoping to put Wales on to the scoreboard.
00:18:19Thorburn with 21 points in the World Cup so far.
00:18:2395 in total for Wales.
00:18:26Moving towards a century.
00:18:29Not a difficult kick.
00:18:31And there's a bit of wind, a bit of crosswind at Ballymore Park.
00:18:37Thorburn.
00:18:39Oh he's struck it badly.
00:18:40It's gone to the right of the post.
00:18:42To the right of the post.
00:18:43And that will be a worrying feature for Tony Gray and the Welsh management in the stand.
00:18:47That was a relatively simple kick.
00:18:52So still no points after 18 minutes of play.
00:18:58Webb with a restart.
00:18:59It's a short one.
00:19:00Dean Richards goes through for England.
00:19:03Paul Moriarty tries to clean up.
00:19:04So too does Richard Collins.
00:19:05But away come England.
00:19:07It's Dean Richards being fed by Richard Harding on the short side.
00:19:11Norster is there for Wales.
00:19:12But it's good pay ball for England.
00:19:14Out it goes to Salmon Sims.
00:19:17Some good Welsh midfield tackling there.
00:19:19Giving England all kinds of problems.
00:19:20There's the Welsh drive down towards the England 22.
00:19:25England do well to hold the tide of Welshire.
00:19:29Right on the 22.
00:19:33And suddenly it's going to be a scrum.
00:19:37Some 10 metres beyond the 22.
00:19:40And certainly it looks as if Robert Norster is feeling that hamstring injury.
00:19:47He's been on the physio table for some considerable time after the last Welsh match.
00:19:53And indeed was considered doubtful for this quarterfinal match.
00:19:56But he's on the field and still on it.
00:19:58As Robert Jones, midway between the 22, breaks on the short side.
00:20:01The kick is meant for Iain Evans to chase.
00:20:03It'll go out of the folder.
00:20:05And that's possibly a lost opportunity for Wales.
00:20:10Robert Jones, the kick a little bit too strong on that short side.
00:20:18So it's England to go.
00:20:20And their main target men.
00:20:22Dooley has now moved up in the line-out on this England throw to jump at number two.
00:20:27Shifting about certainly.
00:20:29Phillips takes it for Wales.
00:20:31And a penalty to England at the front.
00:20:35Phillips, the judge, to have been offside.
00:20:38Shakes his head in disbelief.
00:20:42Peter Williams again with the left foot.
00:20:48And after that pressure from Wales, England suddenly move into the Welsh half.
00:20:53That was a good period of pressure for Wales.
00:20:55And unfortunately for Paul Forbans, it didn't result in any points.
00:21:01Certainly deserved three.
00:21:03But still no score at Brisbane between Wales and England in this quarterfinal match
00:21:09after 20 minutes of play.
00:21:11Phillips throws, going for the middle.
00:21:12Robert tussles for the ball for Wales.
00:21:16As Robert Jones waits for the piece on his forward.
00:21:19He's got sight of it.
00:21:21Jonathan Davies.
00:21:24And that's a massive kick from Jonathan Davies.
00:21:26Well, once given good ball, we've seen from this man what he's capable of doing,
00:21:33especially against Canada.
00:21:34And that was a clear illustration.
00:21:36Given the ball, he can turn the match around.
00:21:41And an excellent clearance kick there, Martin, from Jonathan.
00:21:44I think he's showed today what he has showed in some recent games as well.
00:21:47Possibly more control, as he did against Ireland.
00:21:49I'm sure that's one aspect of his game that he is conscious about.
00:21:53Yes, certainly, because he's capable of doing it or not during the World Cup.
00:21:56The man in the walls, of course, is Gareth Roberts.
00:22:00The team talk for England being led there by Peter Winterbottom.
00:22:05And Gareth Roberts and Richie Collins have now received treatment from Tudor Jones.
00:22:11There must be some anxious moments up in the stand.
00:22:15Because of the two forward replacements, really.
00:22:19Kevin Phillips is a hooker.
00:22:21Steve Backmore, front.
00:22:22Hugh Richards is the other replacement forward.
00:22:25And, of course, he normally plays at block.
00:22:27Paul Neath.
00:22:29And the world's desperately short of fit back row men and also fit front row forwards.
00:22:39He's going to cut on the nose.
00:22:40Was it a bloody nose?
00:22:41Gareth Roberts is coming off the field, but I believe it's only momentarily.
00:22:48Received a little bit of treatment and also to tie his boots up.
00:22:51So Wales reduced in the line-out to seven men.
00:22:55More throws.
00:22:58Truly gets a hand, tries to clean it up, but it's untidy ball for the English.
00:23:01Salmon comes through there, but a thundering tackle by Jonathan Davies.
00:23:05Ball coming back, though, to Harding.
00:23:07Harding with the ball.
00:23:09A little bit confusing on that far side as Harrison gets hold of the ball,
00:23:13but the Welsh are there in numbers.
00:23:14Jonathan Davies is on the floor, way, way to our right.
00:23:19And the penalty has been awarded to England on that far side.
00:23:23And suddenly, concern shown about the Welsh outside half.
00:23:30And that injury, Martin, came after a tremendous tackle, actually, on his opposite number.
00:23:34England came back to the field.
00:23:35A tremendous tackle, actually, on his opposite number.
00:23:38England seemed quite prepared to run the ball behind.
00:23:40They haven't done it very well as yet, but they obviously got a lot of confidence.
00:23:44We see how the ball comes back on the England side.
00:23:48The ball is fed out, Williams to Salmon, who has a go,
00:23:51and then an excellent tackle there by Jonathan.
00:23:53Went low, but obviously, we've been hurt in the process.
00:23:55But here again, we see Winterbottom winning the loose ball.
00:23:58And again, the first instinct is to move it.
00:24:01Well, Jonathan Davies sees, indeed, worrying moments.
00:24:04It's almost like a casualty ward out there.
00:24:07And all of a sudden, the rain has appeared at Ballet Ball Park.
00:24:10The sunshine has certainly disappeared, and everybody's running for cover.
00:24:16But that's a sad sight for all Welsh supporters.
00:24:19Jonathan Davies does look worse for wear.
00:24:21Of course, his replacement up in the sand would be Malcolm Dacey.
00:24:24But one can only hope, after all the injury problems
00:24:27that have been sustained by the Welsh cap, that this young fellow is OK.
00:24:34He's OK, a little bit anxious about the time that's being allocated to the injury.
00:24:42And I'm sure that Jonathan Davies has no thoughts of leaving Ballet Ball Park
00:24:45unless the injury is a very serious one.
00:24:47But it's a penalty to England.
00:24:49We've got to get the ball back to England.
00:24:52But it's a penalty to England.
00:24:54We've now had 24 minutes of play, not the greatest of matches.
00:25:01And England gain a touch from the kick by Peter Williams just inside the Welsh half.
00:25:09There are the umbrellas on that far side.
00:25:11It really is a downpour.
00:25:12The wind has certainly picked up.
00:25:14It's a very wintry Australian day.
00:25:17Phillips with the throw.
00:25:19Richards goes through.
00:25:20It's bad ball.
00:25:21Robert Jones under pressure.
00:25:22Gets a neat little chip down along the touchline.
00:25:25And Harrison drops the ball just outside the 10-metre line.
00:25:30A mistake by the England captain allows Wales to move into the England half once again.
00:25:38Looking at the Welsh three-quarters.
00:25:43Limbering up there.
00:25:45Two men, Lillian Bowen and Jonathan Davies, holding their injuries.
00:25:48But Gareth Roberts is back onto the field and will surely rejoin his colleagues.
00:25:53Robert Jones decides to put the ball in.
00:25:55Roberts is back into the pack.
00:25:57Wales looking for possession.
00:25:59Jones to Davies.
00:26:00He attempted to drop goal, but it's not a good one.
00:26:02But it might be a nice handy kick ahead.
00:26:07Back there goes Webb.
00:26:08And under a bit of pressure from both Welsh winners.
00:26:12And I wonder with the two ringers in there whether Jonathan Davies has misread the call
00:26:16because Hadley had come in as the extra man.
00:26:18And Iain Evans was there on hand as well.
00:26:22Could well have been a three-quarter call by the Welsh.
00:26:28They're in the middle of a downpour.
00:26:30It's Alan Phillips to throw in a good attacking position for Wales after 25 minutes.
00:26:36The ball goes to the back to Richard Collins.
00:26:38Collins looking for the support from Gareth Roberts.
00:26:41Moriarty picks up for Wales.
00:26:42A big regroup just inside England 22.
00:26:45And it's Roberts trying to make headway down towards the England try line.
00:26:49Still no sight of the ball as Robert Jones gets hold of the ball to Jonathan Davies.
00:26:53A little bit of a steady little break and looking for faith.
00:26:55Jonathan Davies looking for the support.
00:26:58John Devereaux is there as well.
00:26:59On to Richard Collins.
00:27:00Collins to Buchanan.
00:27:01Buchanan.
00:27:02The ball goes to about a metre or so from the England try line.
00:27:07A great pressure by the Welshman.
00:27:09And all started of course by Jonathan Davies with that little shimmy and the little jink inside.
00:27:15And that caused the England defence all sorts of problems.
00:27:21And a lovely attack there by Wales as you said Martin.
00:27:23Instigated by Jonathan Davies.
00:27:25An excellent support by the forwards again.
00:27:27And we saw Buchanan nearly crossing for his first try in his first international.
00:27:31And I'm sure he'd have been delighted if he could have put his hands on that ball.
00:27:35So no try for Wales but an injury instead to Paul Rendell.
00:27:41And here we see Jonathan fainting for the drop goal.
00:27:43Steps in off his left foot and shows again his tremendous pace.
00:27:48And he's just held there by quite a few of the English lads.
00:27:50And here we see John Devereaux again using his strength.
00:27:53Looking for support.
00:27:54And there we've got Richard Collins with Buchanan outside.
00:27:58Nearly crossing for his first try with it.
00:28:00Now Paul just seems to lose his grasp and bounces off Alan Phillips's head.
00:28:05And the chance is lost to him.
00:28:10So if Anthony Buchanan had held on to that one and crossed.
00:28:14What a night they would have had at a second night's rugby club.
00:28:16It looks as if Paul Rendell now is the latest injury victim.
00:28:21Coming off the field with a cut eye.
00:28:26But this an excellent opportunity for Wales.
00:28:29Despite the fact that it's going to be an England put in.
00:28:33Chance to put some pressure.
00:28:36Harding to the field.
00:28:39And Wales putting on a tremendous stride.
00:28:41And a few of the tries have been given.
00:28:43The tries have been given.
00:28:44Gareth Roberts brings back the ball.
00:28:45He's absolutely thrilled.
00:28:48Well we all thought that the Welsh scrummaging would be under pressure in this match.
00:28:52But that was extra scrummaging work.
00:28:55And a try for Gareth Roberts which puts Wales into the lead four points to nil.
00:29:01And that was excellent work by Wales.
00:29:02Obviously they knew the English scrummage was weakened.
00:29:05Here they have the drive on England.
00:29:06Try to wheel it.
00:29:07But obviously the ball does pop out.
00:29:08And Gareth Roberts on hand to score his second try for Wales.
00:29:12And from the other side we see the drive.
00:29:15England do try to disrupt.
00:29:16The ball shoots out.
00:29:18And Roberts, the ever-present Roberts is on hand to score.
00:29:21Corbyn with a conversion.
00:29:22And we could see from that other angle how simple a try that was.
00:29:26That's a better kick from Paul Corbyn.
00:29:27It's an extra two points.
00:29:30Wales into the lead six points to nil after 29 minutes of the first half.
00:29:36And still the rain beats down at Ballywool Park.
00:29:39But that would be of no concern to the Welsh.
00:29:41But of some concern to the English camp is the injury to Paul Rendell.
00:29:46Just at the vital moment.
00:29:47Chilcot warming up.
00:29:49And it must be said, in fairness to the English camp,
00:29:53that that scrimmaging try was scored when they were minus Paul Rendell.
00:30:01Gareth Chilcot, a pass.
00:30:04Prepared to come on.
00:30:06And he too has Welsh connections.
00:30:11Webb to restart for England.
00:30:14Chilcot coming on.
00:30:17And of course he played against Wales at Cardiff.
00:30:20Moriarty underneath the high ball.
00:30:22That was a dangerous charge into the back.
00:30:24But it's allowed to go on Moriarty.
00:30:27Harding waiting for the delivery.
00:30:29Williams, the high kick.
00:30:30That's meant for Corbyn or anybody else who wants the call in the Welsh defence.
00:30:34Corbyn takes it well.
00:30:35Call to the mark.
00:30:36And it's given.
00:30:38A two excellent catches.
00:30:39One by John Webb under the high ball.
00:30:41One by Paul Corbyn.
00:30:42The full-backs having a good day.
00:30:47Corbyn with the trusted right foot.
00:30:52Takes play to 10 metres outside the 22.
00:30:58So it'll be Brian Moore.
00:31:00Nottingham to throw in.
00:31:04Half an hour gone of this first half.
00:31:06Wales in the lead.
00:31:08Six points to nil.
00:31:09Moore with a throw.
00:31:12Dooley two-handed.
00:31:13Richards back to Moore.
00:31:15But it was a little bit too quick.
00:31:17And a joint single between a couple of the factions.
00:31:28And with the referee, Rene Urquhart, telling the fellas to go in 15 metres.
00:31:35And some of the other players are going to be in the back.
00:31:38And suddenly, it's a better day at Ballymore Park.
00:31:40The rain has now ceased.
00:31:42Despite the fact that the umbrellas are up from the past night.
00:31:44It may be a fine result.
00:31:47Robert Jones.
00:31:49Jonathan Davies.
00:31:50Got away from Harding.
00:31:51Davies spotted a bit of daylight and greenery in the middle of the park.
00:31:55Webb.
00:31:55There's a bit of a misunderstanding between Webb and Harrison.
00:31:58And the ball is loose.
00:31:59It's picked up by Richard Collins.
00:32:00Collins with the feed on to Gareth Roberts.
00:32:03The back row in concert for Wales.
00:32:05Hunting for this ball to Jonathan Davies on the short fly.
00:32:08Let him go in.
00:32:09With a half dummy that time.
00:32:10Well tackled by Harding.
00:32:11The ball comes loose for Jonathan Davies.
00:32:13But that was good Welsh play.
00:32:14But all due to some misunderstanding in the England defence.
00:32:17But my word, the back row were there very quickly, Gareth Davies.
00:32:20Excellent work again.
00:32:21And I think Gareth Roberts has probably been the outstanding Welsh player this afternoon so far.
00:32:24And his presence there again created all sorts of problems for him.
00:32:28Harding with the feed.
00:32:30But not to the satisfaction of the French referee.
00:32:35And no love lost either between Robert Jones and Richard Harding.
00:32:41Jones not willing to give an inch as he stands.
00:32:44Almost contemptuous of the presence of the West Coast crumb half.
00:32:49The kick.
00:32:50The left-footed kick from Peter Williams.
00:32:55And we have felt quite nudged by Gareth Roberts that time.
00:32:59Hence the hilarity.
00:33:00The open side flanker from Cardiff.
00:33:02Just showing the oddball outside half that he was there at his shoulder.
00:33:08And a perhaps tempting cut for Wales today.
00:33:12Goes to the middle of the line-out.
00:33:17This time it's a penalty to England at the back.
00:33:20A little barging.
00:33:21A little bit of infringing.
00:33:26What a moment for this young fellow from Aberyman originally.
00:33:33Another kick from Peter Williams.
00:33:35Punishes the Welsh by some 16-17 metres.
00:33:43Wales calling for the shortened line this time.
00:33:47Four men into the line.
00:33:49And it's a quickly taken to Richie Collins.
00:33:51Collins sets it up on the halfway line.
00:33:53Up he comes to David Young.
00:33:55Young on the charge.
00:33:58Robert Jones saw the oncoming Gary Rees.
00:34:01And try to go just inside the Nottingham flanker.
00:34:05But away come England.
00:34:05Harding on the short side.
00:34:07He's got Underwood outside.
00:34:08Underwood fails to get hold of the ball.
00:34:09But it comes back to Harding.
00:34:13And a little bit of a forward pass that time.
00:34:24So down go the Welsh midway between the 22 and the halfway line.
00:34:29Robert Jones at the feed.
00:34:30There's a surge from the England scrum.
00:34:32Neat little pass from Robert Jones.
00:34:34Out he goes to Devereux.
00:34:35Doesn't decide to have a stab at it.
00:34:37Out to Adrian Hadley.
00:34:38Hadley up against Harrison.
00:34:39Hadley trying to get away.
00:34:40Up to Devereux.
00:34:41Devereux stays through on the halfway line.
00:34:43The trip ahead by John Devereux.
00:34:45It's a chase to the corner.
00:34:46Underwood is left there for England.
00:34:48Devereux is there too.
00:34:49But Underwood just about gets there.
00:34:51Superb support played by the Welsh on that fast ride.
00:34:55And full credit for Jim Devereux for that attempt.
00:35:01And we see, yes, the ball was just over the line.
00:35:03So quite a correct decision by Hoke.
00:35:06So the dropout from the 22.
00:35:10Certainly there seems to be a little bit more spirit in this Welsh performance
00:35:13in the last 10 minutes.
00:35:17And England having won the territorial advantage in the first 5 or 10 minutes.
00:35:21Now having to concede to the Welsh.
00:35:24And Wales in the lead 6 points to nil after 35 minutes of play in its first half.
00:35:30Phillips to Foe.
00:35:368 metres outside the 22.
00:35:41And a difficult day for both hookers.
00:35:45Slippery ball.
00:35:46Slippery conditions.
00:35:47But that time he goes for the back trying to find Paul Moriarty.
00:35:50But it's crappy ball.
00:35:51Goes back to the England side.
00:35:52Williams being chased there.
00:35:54And Harris by Paul Moriarty.
00:35:56And there's no lack of effort by the Welsh.
00:35:59Either in the threes or in the back row.
00:36:01And we've seen a couple of surging ones too from Buchanan and David Young.
00:36:08The limited line-out.
00:36:11Richard Collins joining.
00:36:13The last time Manon Phillips was confronted by this limited line-out.
00:36:16He flew straight to Collins.
00:36:19At this time it goes for Richard Moriarty.
00:36:21But it goes back to the England side.
00:36:22Lots more.
00:36:23Harding to Williams.
00:36:25Williams on to Winderbottom to Reid.
00:36:27As they set it up.
00:36:28The hooker, Moore, is in the movement as well.
00:36:30Hammond on the far side to Simms.
00:36:32Simms to Webb.
00:36:32Webb to Harrison.
00:36:34And that's the second time of asking that Harrison has dropped the vital part.
00:36:40Though not having the best of afternoons is Mike Harrison of Wakefield.
00:36:49Certainly England intent on stretching that Welsh defence.
00:36:52There were a couple of gaps there.
00:36:53It certainly looked like a dangerous move.
00:36:55And Harrison might have made more capital out of it.
00:36:59The handling and passing amongst the England backs has been rather disappointing.
00:37:02I think they've had a good outlook on it.
00:37:04And they haven't looked to move the ball.
00:37:05And here we see Redmond linking with his backs.
00:37:08Salmon again looks for the gap there.
00:37:11But a well-timed pass to Simms.
00:37:12Who again gives Harrison the opportunity on the outside via John Webb.
00:37:18There we see Harrison again with a nice pass out in front.
00:37:21Obviously looking at the man.
00:37:22And the ball goes down.
00:37:23So rather a lot of disappointment for the England captain.
00:37:28So there's another worrying sight for the Welsh camp.
00:37:31Robert Norster receiving treatment for that hamstring injury.
00:37:36And it's widely believed that he's carried something of a hamstring injury
00:37:40right throughout the season.
00:37:43But the magic spray from Tudor Jones seems to have done the job.
00:37:48Albeit temporarily as wells go down for the scum.
00:37:52Some six or seven metres in from the far touchline.
00:37:55It's whipped around.
00:37:57Difficult flight for scum haves.
00:37:59Whatever that happens.
00:38:01The pick-up eventually by Wells.
00:38:03As they try to get hold of the possession.
00:38:06And try to get it back somehow or other.
00:38:09All kinds of infringements going on there.
00:38:11Harder, untidy ball.
00:38:13But eventually it results in a penalty to Wales.
00:38:22Thorburn.
00:38:26That's a mighty long kick from Paul Thorburn.
00:38:30Once again, Harris not having the best of afternoons.
00:38:33Dropping that one as well.
00:38:34But it may have gone a trickle into touch anyway.
00:38:41Quite an inspiring captain this fellow.
00:38:45Having taken over the captaincy.
00:38:46His first loss was against Australia in the opening match of the World Cup.
00:38:50Wales have it.
00:38:51Robert Jones.
00:38:52Jonathan Davies.
00:38:54That's the problem once again.
00:38:57Paul Harrison took it well this time though.
00:39:00Outside is the end goal area.
00:39:03And in to touch.
00:39:08And Jonathan Davies doesn't seem to be very happy Martin.
00:39:10I'm not sure if it was the effect of the kick wasn't that good.
00:39:13But he does seem to be limping.
00:39:15And he's not looking as bubbly effervescent as himself.
00:39:19So Richie Collins carrying an injury.
00:39:21Garret Roberts.
00:39:23Forster.
00:39:23Sterling Bowen and Jonathan Davies.
00:39:25It's the limpy casualty list.
00:39:29Phillips with a throw.
00:39:30Collins takes well.
00:39:31Moriarty's superb pass out.
00:39:33Sterling Bowen couldn't quite get his hands to that one.
00:39:36And the ball comes back on the England side.
00:39:38But salvaged by Wales.
00:39:39But no advantage.
00:39:41So it's a scrum to England just outside the England 22.
00:39:47We now have 39 minutes of play in this first half.
00:39:51Wales just hanging on to that six points to nil lead.
00:39:55Try scored by Roberts.
00:39:57Garret Roberts.
00:39:58And converted by Paul Thorburn.
00:40:02Richards with a control.
00:40:04Harding waits.
00:40:08Pass back to Webb.
00:40:09And that's a huge spiralling kick from Webb.
00:40:11But Thorburn underneath it.
00:40:13It hasn't reached touch.
00:40:16But it's a healthy kick to England.
00:40:21Referee, Rene Urquhart, spotted an infringement offside was the decision.
00:40:32And so another opportunity for Paul Williams.
00:40:36Left footed.
00:40:38Is it a dozen fine touch.
00:40:40Back he comes to Thorburn.
00:40:42Thorburn.
00:40:44The best of spiralling kicks.
00:40:45But it's a very effective one.
00:40:48And returned with some interest.
00:40:51A limited line out called by England.
00:41:01Ball in the toe.
00:41:05Dooley goes up high.
00:41:06Goes back to the well side though.
00:41:07Falls comfortably for Robert Jones.
00:41:09Jonathan Davies.
00:41:10The grubber kick.
00:41:12Back there though is Webb the fullback.
00:41:13Read that one well.
00:41:14Positioned himself perfectly.
00:41:15Webb on the run.
00:41:16This is what England expects of their new fullback.
00:41:20Got over the advantage line.
00:41:22And give the oncoming forward some something to grasp on to.
00:41:31So this game.
00:41:33Not a classic by any stretch of the imagination.
00:41:40Robert Jones is 10 meters.
00:41:42Inside the England half.
00:41:45Jones with a feed.
00:41:47Davies.
00:41:47They miss out a man.
00:41:48Devereaux on the far side.
00:41:50Thorburn tries to break a track off.
00:41:52But suddenly robs of the ball.
00:41:54The ball goes loose on the far side.
00:41:55And into touch.
00:42:04The line out on the far side.
00:42:06And it'll be.
00:42:09More to go.
00:42:12Good kick.
00:42:14Now well into injury time.
00:42:16Minute and a half into injury time.
00:42:19It's England 0, Wales 6.
00:42:22Harding waits for the delivery from the forwards.
00:42:26Big deal of work and energy being spent in that direction.
00:42:29Dean Richards leading the England charge.
00:42:31Back it comes to Harding.
00:42:32That's a nice little kick from Harding.
00:42:34Thorburn rushing across.
00:42:35Positioning himself well.
00:42:36Takes the ball well.
00:42:37Gets his kick away.
00:42:38But it's not a clever one because it's straight to Webb.
00:42:41Webb on the counter and a crack to Rory Underwood.
00:42:43Underwood up against Diane Evans.
00:42:44Evans takes his man this time and does well.
00:42:47Underwood going inside his man.
00:42:49Evans was there.
00:42:50And indeed there were a couple of other potential Welsh tacklers as well.
00:42:55And the Welsh defence this afternoon, Martin, has been tremendous.
00:42:58I think Devereaux has been a great influence during the World Cup series.
00:43:01I think his influence is obviously coming through in the defensive side of the game.
00:43:06The ball on the 10 metre line.
00:43:08Throws the ball.
00:43:08It wasn't quite straight that one.
00:43:12And so in they go.
00:43:1315 metres or a scrum.
00:43:16And full credit to Gareth Davies too.
00:43:18This young, not so young really, but inexperienced front row.
00:43:22They've held up well so far.
00:43:23They've done a tremendous job.
00:43:24I feel the English scrum is probably becoming a little bit stronger.
00:43:27It's very ironic.
00:43:28I think we feel that we are six points ahead
00:43:31in the try resulting from a scrum on the England line.
00:43:34Rene Torquay pointing exactly as to where he wants his scrum to take place.
00:43:39Robert Jones, but that's the second one after complementing the Welsh scrum.
00:43:43Away come England.
00:43:44Winterbottom on the charge on the short side.
00:43:47Underwood is there.
00:43:47Haring whips it back.
00:43:49The try to whip it back.
00:43:50Chilcott.
00:43:51The bar's dropped forward.
00:43:54Feeds up for England.
00:43:55Up.
00:43:56Williams on the break.
00:43:57He's got the support.
00:43:58Winterbottom is there.
00:43:59The ever-present back row forward for England.
00:44:01Haring does well.
00:44:02This is good England play.
00:44:03The kick is from Salmon on the far side.
00:44:05The left foot.
00:44:06Hadley goes back for Wales.
00:44:08Taps the ball into touch.
00:44:10Or rather, flaxed it into touch, making absolutely no mistake for this.
00:44:13It's good England play.
00:44:15And that's the best concentration of England forward play that we've seen in this first half.
00:44:20As I was saying, Martin, they did manage to finish that.
00:44:23I do feel possibly England are becoming,
00:44:25beginning to become a bit stronger than Wales in this coming game.
00:44:28The shortened line-out.
00:44:30Deep inside.
00:44:31The Welsh tie's two.
00:44:32Small throws.
00:44:33Dooley tries to go through on the ball.
00:44:35There's a bit of blocking there.
00:44:36It's allowed.
00:44:37But the referee, Rene Urquhart,
00:44:40on the infringement.
00:44:41And it'll be a scrum.
00:44:44Dangerously close to the Welsh try line.
00:44:46Two hookers.
00:44:47Moore and Phipps.
00:44:49Rejoining their colleagues.
00:44:52Four minutes of injury time played in this game.
00:44:55Four minutes of injury time played in this first half.
00:45:03Urquhart not quite satisfied as for the location of the scrum.
00:45:11Robert Jones getting the Welsh alignment absolutely right.
00:45:15Two against the head already.
00:45:16And it's a free kick to England.
00:45:21Robert Jones, that time,
00:45:23is accused of not putting the ball in straight.
00:45:26Turning the ball on the put-in.
00:45:28England have it.
00:45:29Williams.
00:45:31Oh, let's just say that's the most undignified of drop goals
00:45:34that we've seen in this World Cup competition.
00:45:35Apart, that is, from a penalty attempt by Hugo Pocher
00:45:40in one of the earlier games.
00:45:41It really was a grass cutter.
00:45:49Jonathan Davies to restart.
00:45:51England putting a fair amount of pressure on the Welsh.
00:45:55In injury time at the end of this first half.
00:45:58Davies has dropped that.
00:45:58Dean Richards is underneath it for England.
00:46:02And another penalty.
00:46:04And the Welsh have been accused, quite justifiably,
00:46:07of being a little bit indisciplined.
00:46:09Certainly the penalty count against Canada was very, very embarrassing.
00:46:13And it's turning out to be that way against the English as well.
00:46:16John Webb will attempt this one.
00:46:18It's a bit of a difficult kick because
00:46:21he's got the support of this cross-field wind
00:46:23which will turn the ball into the post.
00:46:26But it's a distance of some 38 metres.
00:46:33So Webb, nothing to show so far on the scoreboard.
00:46:3840 points for England.
00:46:41His fourth cap for his country.
00:46:50John Webb.
00:46:51Taking a fair amount of time as he approaches the ball.
00:46:56Strikes it.
00:46:57But that, he's got just underneath the ball.
00:46:59And it's gone to the right.
00:47:02And Brevin Bowen, that time, rather shocking.
00:47:06Well, Brevin Bowen a little bit fortunate at the end of his...
00:47:09In the lead.
00:47:10Six points to nil at the beginning of the second half.
00:47:14The ball straight to Harding.
00:47:15Harding back it goes to the Bristol full-back, John Webb.
00:47:19Adrian Ahadni certainly went through at an alarming pace on John Webb that time.
00:47:24Must have seen the red flash going past him, John Webb,
00:47:26as he got the ball safely into touch.
00:47:34Alan Phillips on the 10-metre line.
00:47:38And the limited line-outs.
00:47:39Harding to the front post in the middle.
00:47:41The two Moriartys at the back.
00:47:43This is for Robert Jones.
00:47:45This is for Buchanan on the charge.
00:47:46A good charge to Alan Phillips.
00:47:47Slightly forward, that one.
00:47:51Sit down, they go for a scum.
00:47:5410 metres in from the near-side touchline.
00:47:59Kenneth Chilcott, for the pace before Wendell.
00:48:03Joins the England front row of Pearce and Moore.
00:48:06Harding on the short side.
00:48:07It's meant for Harrison to chase.
00:48:10It's gone out on the full.
00:48:11A bit of a wasted kick, that one, by Richard Harding of Bristol.
00:48:14And Alan Phillips, as well, this time keeping to an orthodox line-out.
00:48:24Right on the 10-metre line.
00:48:27Line-out signal from Richard Moriarty.
00:48:29Jumping at two for Alan Phillips.
00:48:31This one goes straight to the back.
00:48:32Collins, as well, to get up there.
00:48:33Get the height of this rather tall England back row.
00:48:36But England have this one.
00:48:38Harding to Webb.
00:48:41Harris.
00:48:42Harrison having a chance.
00:48:43Cuts back inside, Adrian Hadley.
00:48:46But England set it up on the 10-metre line.
00:48:48Harding to his Bristol colleague, Webb.
00:48:51Well, it's a kick going just about anywhere, but Paul Thorburn is underneath it.
00:48:55On the 22.
00:48:56The switch is declined to Iain Evans.
00:48:58The kick by Thorburn.
00:48:59He's still going.
00:49:00The cover kick.
00:49:01Ball goes loose.
00:49:02Williams tries to pick the ball up on that far side.
00:49:07And it's a pity there, Martin.
00:49:08I think that Thorburn didn't possibly use Iain Evans coming over from the blank side.
00:49:12Obviously, with his extra pace, he may have been able to create something.
00:49:17The put-in by Robert Jones.
00:49:21It's one of steadier scrum by the Welsh.
00:49:23They seem to be settling down a little bit, having given two against their head.
00:49:26Oh, Robert Jones, neatly done.
00:49:29As he goes over the gain line and gives a target for the oncoming forwards.
00:49:34This is Jonathan Davies.
00:49:36Harrison, going back for a foot England.
00:49:40Up against Hadley.
00:49:41Harrison.
00:49:41And Hadley.
00:49:43Harrison is away from Hadley.
00:49:45Thorburn.
00:49:46The fly hack from Sims.
00:49:49And then another fly hack from Paul Thorburn.
00:49:51A little bit scrappy to say.
00:49:53Jonathan Davies.
00:49:54The Welsh half-back.
00:49:55Davies is going to have a run this time.
00:50:00And the referee, Rennie Urquhart, has given England the penalty.
00:50:03Maybe it was offside, the original infringement.
00:50:07They allow the advantage to go.
00:50:13So, Rennie Urquhart marking the exact spot.
00:50:20And up comes John Webb to take the kick.
00:50:23And a little bit of untidiness in the play at the beginning of the second half.
00:50:27And that's a good kick by Webb.
00:50:42Right into the corner.
00:50:43Robert Jones does remarkably well to take it.
00:50:45Up towards the 22-metre line.
00:50:47And that's a superb delivery from Robert Jones.
00:50:49Oh, that was class play.
00:50:52Excellent play by Robert Jones.
00:50:53Either way, he took the ball initially.
00:50:55Plus that spiralling kick, which has obviously pushed England back to halfway.
00:50:59It could have quite a psychological effect on the game.
00:51:01So, back to the halfway line.
00:51:05And it'll be Brian Moore to throw for England.
00:51:08Rennie Urquhart asking for some separation.
00:51:10A bit of daylight between the two sets of forwards.
00:51:14Moriarty.
00:51:17And England suddenly rummaging around there and putting pressure on the Welsh.
00:51:21But Wales have it.
00:51:22Jonathan Davies, the switch route of Bevan Bowen.
00:51:24The legs seem to be OK to Richard Collins over the halfway line.
00:51:27He's got John Devereaux outside if he finds him.
00:51:29The delivery, the trip ahead by Robert Jones.
00:51:31Robert Jones up against Harding.
00:51:33Harding to Robert Jones.
00:51:34Robert Jones gets a good kick.
00:51:35Robert Jones has got a dramatic try for Wales after five minutes of play.
00:51:41That was sheer opportunism for the young scum half.
00:51:44That's his first World Cup try.
00:51:47And they don't come any better than that.
00:51:49Tremendous work there by the Welsh.
00:51:51We saw that Robert Jones running through.
00:51:54He's managed to get...
00:51:55No, here we have early stage.
00:51:56Richard Collins, again, ever-present.
00:51:58Supporting Bleryn Bowen and cut through after a switch move.
00:52:01Looking for support, but he hasn't got anybody on his shoulder.
00:52:05Excellent tackle there by Fullback Webb.
00:52:07But he's got the ability to make that ball available.
00:52:10And Robert Jones sensibly kicks it through, not wanting to risk his hand.
00:52:14And he's got the pace to beat Harding for the touchdown.
00:52:18And the conversion is there.
00:52:20Oh, indeed.
00:52:20It's been declined, gone to the left of the post.
00:52:24So Wales will have to be satisfied with that try from Robert Jones.
00:52:27But what a try it was.
00:52:28What great effort between two scum halves, Harding and Robert Jones.
00:52:32It really is a 22, 25, 30-meter split where the ball eventually landed.
00:52:39And Jones, just by a fingernail, I think, got the touchdown.
00:52:42Great joy, then, for the Welsh camp as Webb restarts.
00:52:46The ball comes to Moriarty.
00:52:47It's back to Jonathan Davies.
00:52:50Neatly around the kick and a touch, but that's not going to find its mark.
00:52:54Webb takes it on the halfway line.
00:52:57The high, up and under.
00:53:00Corbyn takes, calls for the mark, and it's given.
00:53:05Wales in the lead, 10 points to nil.
00:53:08And Tony Gray doesn't look at all pleased.
00:53:10He must be very worried about what may come in the latter stages of this game.
00:53:17The kick is a good one, quickly taken by England.
00:53:20Richards is there.
00:53:21And the support coming, that try from Gary Pearce.
00:53:27Down they'll go for the scum, just inside the Welsh half.
00:53:33Wales, 10 points to nil in the lead.
00:53:35Two tries scored, and that, of course, is important.
00:53:39The tries are scored, because when the eventual counting up is made,
00:53:43should it be a draw game, they become rather crucial.
00:53:48But it's a penalty for England.
00:53:52Peter Williams, left-footed.
00:53:55That's a good kick by Williams.
00:53:58Peter Williams, the young man who has a Welsh father, 28-year-old, outside half.
00:54:08So Wales beginning to shade, lines out.
00:54:13And much credit must be given to this man, Alan Preps, for the accuracy of his throwing in.
00:54:19Referee Reni Urquhage, confusing just about everybody at Stamford Park,
00:54:24by calling first for the line-up and then awarding to Scrum.
00:54:30Harding with a put-in on the 22-metre line.
00:54:33Here's the ball away to Williams, along to Sims.
00:54:36Sims, Underwood has come in as the extra man.
00:54:39And he's got it, with a knockaway.
00:54:41And it's a three-and-one, the number one.
00:54:43gets the ball away to Williams along to Sims. Sims underwood has come in as the
00:54:48extra man but the Welsh tackling is there. Devereaux as a vanguard of the Welsh
00:54:52defence absolutely superb taking one or probably two men at the same time but
00:54:57England drive forward and it's still John Devereaux there in the middle a superb
00:55:04defensive player he is he's not a bad attacking player either
00:55:09so a set scrum just outside the Welsh 22 Harding with a feed and the collapse of
00:55:23a scrum and Rene Urquhart having a good look to see exactly what went wrong with
00:55:29that scrum and having a word with Gary Pearce well a lecture to the most
00:55:39experienced English prop winning his 34th caps the record over for Franny
00:55:44Cotton England have it on a short side Harding the fly-hack is from Adrian
00:55:51Hadley back there goes Peter Williams Hadley is through on his man the fly-hack
00:55:57from Jonathan Davies across comes Kevin Sims for England and the bodies on the
00:56:05floor once again Peter Williams and a penalty to Wales and then against
00:56:11Harding for not releasing the ball after the tackle here we see John Webb
00:56:16covering back but Hadley comes through this tremendous pace on his physical
00:56:19power roughly flattened John Webb who obviously doesn't release the ball
00:56:27Jonathan Davies just on the halfway line
00:56:36and asking for Franny to get out of the way he wants a good sight of the
00:56:40touchline right footed
00:56:47so Jonathan Davies with that good kick and takes the pressure back down under
00:56:51England's try line so carrying a bit of an injury is Jonathan Davies
00:56:59more with a throw
00:57:05pressure on England all coming back on the Welsh side Richard Moriarty doing the
00:57:10cleaning up but referee Rene Orké not quite satisfied award a scrum 50
00:57:16meters in but it's from six or seven meters 38 really from the England try
00:57:23line Robert Jones quick channel one Moriarty Robert Jones but the England
00:57:29cover was there that time with Harrison coming over and Gary Rees good English
00:57:34defense as war prepares to throw the ball in once again ten and a half minutes
00:57:42gone in the second half also gets up high so to this Redman and again a line
00:57:47out infringement against the Welsh a bit of barging at the front so it'll be
00:57:52webbed to come up to take the kick
00:57:57so England have lived with that pressure and the fine kick came off the outside
00:58:03of the boot but well ticket taken quickly Moriarty back it goes to Robert
00:58:07Jones well done a bit of pressure bred in Bowen with a high Gary Owen you'll
00:58:12have to chase it Dean Richards is underneath it going goes in as the wall
00:58:17becomes available for England on the 10 meter line Harding has a good look to
00:58:20see what a Welsh cover is gives it to Reece Reece charging through North to
00:58:23take hold of him and England put on a forward drive on the short side went to
00:58:30bottom is up Harris from outside the window bottom couldn't get the ball
00:58:33away but he does eventually to Dean Richards Harrison up against Hadley
00:58:36again an opportunity of a reception interception that time and it's a
00:58:41penalty to or is it a penalty to England or to Wales penalty to England
00:58:51despite the fact that Peter wants window bottom disagreed with it he wanted the
00:58:54ball being played the advantage to be played I think it's a very important or
00:59:00critical stage now for the Welsh England team to have just got back into the game
00:59:03slightly and I know we ten points ahead but I think the next couple of minutes
00:59:06could be very very crucial indeed just noticing you see the quick quick line
00:59:11out which I think we're sort of even a bit more disciplined there they should
00:59:13have looked to steady it so we've taken a quick quick line up we've shown a lot
00:59:17of confidence I think at this stage in the game class we should have settled
00:59:20down settle down and make sure that we win that final ball I noticed earlier on
00:59:24with the England backhoes looking to break in in between midfield there was a
00:59:29little bit more room than there has been previously and I just hope that we
00:59:33do stick to our guns now and if we are we are we are playing a tight game the
00:59:38man injured that's Rob Andrew warming up should Peter Williams not be able to
00:59:42take any further part in this game certainly Peter Williams receiving a
00:59:49fair amount of attention especially when April Kate dissatisfied at the time
00:59:53taken up certainly a feature of these World Cup games so far has been the
00:59:59amount of time added on to the first and second half the rare occasion we've had
01:00:0512 minutes added on in one match Webb with a kick or England a smiling one
01:00:11doesn't reach touch be too happy with his touch fighting so far has webbed
01:00:16especially during this second half and the return kick is a good one not from
01:00:20Robert Jones takes the pressure off his forwards certainly Robert Jones playing
01:00:25one of his superb games for Wales but Dooley takes this one rather easily from
01:00:29the line at the ball goes back to Harding up to winter bottom winter bottom
01:00:32charging against the Welsh cover Collins is there takes his man to ground as
01:00:36Harding goes on the short side looks for his captain Harrison in no man's land
01:00:40really but across field and he's got the ball to be finds it goes between the
01:00:45Welsh cover that time a little bit of indiscipline by the England attack
01:00:48through Harding Harrison the captain rather had about five or six men just
01:00:53lining up for the ball and certainly took the wrong option that time yes it
01:00:57was a chance there for them to move the ball he created the space and he should
01:01:00have just released it for his for his back Robert Jones with the put in three
01:01:07meters outside the Welsh 22 now had 40 minutes of play in the second half Wales
01:01:13still in the lead ten points to nil Dr. Davis
01:01:19we're coming over that's covering and the cover kicked off for their foot in
01:01:26the touch he knew that he was outside his 22 that time and had to go for the
01:01:32rubber the Wales down in the England half once again
01:01:40Philips with the lineout calls the response from Moriarty and Robert
01:01:48Forster Forster goes up certainly seemed to be impeded at that time
01:01:57and indeed was spotted by referee René O'Keefe but he's reported to Scrum
01:02:00instead of a penalty quite on the 10 meter line
01:02:07Harding that's a better drive from the Welsh scrum getting on top of their game
01:02:12a little bit having conceded two against their head but this is Dean Richard up
01:02:15against Paul Moriarty Moriarty takes his man to the ground as England to wait for
01:02:22possession Harding and it comes to Harrison Harrison
01:02:25with a nice little kick straight to Robert Jones and that was excellent
01:02:31positioning by Robert Jones in the cover position as a scrum half just coming
01:02:35across reading the England captain's movements well on that short side
01:02:41four to throw in and certainly the game lost a little bit of its tempo as well as rushing
01:02:48through referee René O'Keefe rewarding the scrum 15 meters in from the near
01:02:57touchline just in the England half
01:03:02the control for Paul Moriarty Robert Jones Jonathan Davis well that's gone
01:03:09way way high in the Brisbane air anybody underneath it Moriarty
01:03:15it's a penalty offside against Wales
01:03:19really an opportunity last fair one I thought that Jonathan Davis would go for
01:03:24the corners just to take Wales into the 22 Peter Williams asking for the exact
01:03:31spot and they've put a kick into touch
01:03:39England back now inside the Welsh half a bit of a ding-dong struggle this between
01:03:43the two 22s I think even though England possibly are beginning to get the upper
01:03:49hand they don't seem to have much imagination behind Harding to use the
01:03:53blindside all the time there's no real penetration there
01:03:58that was meant for Moriarty we came back to Harding a bit of a wild one from the
01:04:02Bristol scrum half the knock on that drive by Ritchie Collins but the
01:04:06advantage is being played Harrison with a kick for Paul Sorbonne
01:04:12well that one by a whisker and the problem area this for the Welsh but it's quickly taken
01:04:18back it comes to Adrian Hadley but to no avail because they'll have to go back
01:04:22for the original line-out
01:04:28and it'll be a scrum 15 meters in from the far touchline and it's certainly a
01:04:35problem area for Wales we'll have a quick chat with Cara Ferris about that
01:04:41decision afterwards a strange one Harding the snap drive to come from
01:04:49England the control from Dean Richards and England hoping to catch Wales outside
01:04:54or at least collapse the scrum it's Harding the long gigantuan pass out of
01:04:59Webb going for the line back inside the fly hack is there it's still
01:05:04available but conventionally goes over the touchline for those of dangerous
01:05:08times for Wales but I think young Harding at scrum half has possibly lost that
01:05:13opportunity with men outside him the other interesting thing there that
01:05:17the fact that the scrum had gone down and ideally the referee should have
01:05:20really asked for the scrum to be taken again but again the incident that led to
01:05:25that I don't know I think was rather harsh on the Welsh team
01:05:29a defensive put in for Robert Jones
01:05:34the two props and all kinds of problems there at the front but Robert Jones has
01:05:39hiked to the ball back it comes to the young Swansea scrum half does well with
01:05:45the left foot his defensive kicking has been immaculate there he is urging his
01:05:51men on and all credit to the Welsh scrum there it was a very very solid platform
01:05:57for Robert Jones to be able to clear his line
01:06:02an injury to the experienced man on the front row and a foot he seems to be okay
01:06:08more with the so limited line out for England Harding Moriarty going through
01:06:14Redmond tries to clean up the friction between Redmond and Moriarty nothing
01:06:18serious and one must say yes indeed a bit of a headache for Marty Green the
01:06:25England coach
01:06:29and the possession that England has had they've tended to squander mainly at
01:06:35half-back okay not satisfied with a put in now we are now midway into the second
01:06:43half Wales still in the lead ten points to nil and yet another penalty that's
01:06:48twelve against Wales and Robert Jones disputing that particular penalty so
01:06:57what's the decision of Mike Harrison there's a confusion in the England ranks
01:07:03here they go it's gonna be an up-and-under Harding and it's a terrible
01:07:07up-and-under it's gone behind his oncoming forward well really an
01:07:14opportunity wasted and we must say Gareth Davies that Harding is not having
01:07:20the best of games no that's why his play has really gone from bad to worse in the last
01:07:24ten minutes it's been quite quite quite badly Wales waiting for the possession
01:07:30a little bit of indiscipline that time Jonathan Davies the knock on the pick up
01:07:35by Robert Jones but the whistle has gone from referee Rennie Urquhart and Wales
01:07:41will do well to keep their concentration level at its highest peak states like
01:07:45that might allow the English to come back into this game if I capable of
01:07:50doing it with their excellent wings Harrison and Underwood
01:07:56this time it's a penalty against Harding no indeed penalty to England
01:08:03Harding goes away on that far side to Rory Underwood back inside it comes to
01:08:08Jonathan Davies eventually certainly the signals of Rennie Urquhart are very very
01:08:12confusing indeed he pointed towards England to say that they were being
01:08:16penalized and then awarded them the penalty it's a dangerous time for Wales
01:08:23Welsh try line under siege
01:08:27Moore with a throw up they go but the ball is taken by Gareth Roberts
01:08:31Wales drive through trying to get the platform possession for Robert Jones to
01:08:35clear as the young Swansea's come halfway tried to catch England offside
01:08:39back it goes to the deep south side half Jonathan Davies the kick to touch
01:08:44doesn't find his mark comes to Underwood nearly dropped it Underwood again
01:08:49looking for work is left a wing
01:08:54terrible and Hadley fly hat through
01:08:56Webb is back there gets up neatly
01:08:58superb play by the whistle pull back he's still away
01:09:02but runs back in a host of Welsh shirts as Wales drive on a halfway line looking for
01:09:07this possession and suddenly it's a whistle and suddenly yet again a penalty
01:09:12against Wales perhaps the 13th I believe that they've conceded
01:09:19so up comes Peter Williams on the outside half
01:09:31left-footed in the touch safely not a great distance but an effective kick
01:09:39we're also holding on to the ten points in the lead after 23 minutes of play in
01:09:45the second half
01:09:50a limited line-out
01:09:54a flip
01:09:56I think you'll love to see where the Cardiff man is
01:09:58but now Wales tending to go away from Robert Sawster since he's carrying that injury in the line-out
01:10:03this is Redburn the 22 year old man from Bath on the charge
01:10:07and a great ironic cheer goes around Ballymore Park Wales have got a penalty
01:10:15Corbyn
01:10:19offside was the decision
01:10:21as Corbyn spirals one down past the trees at Ballymore Park down towards the England half
01:10:27and it'll be a line-out a couple of metres inside England's territory
01:10:31but Wade comes for England quickly taken
01:10:33Salmon to Simms
01:10:35Simms a little chip ahead is Redburn
01:10:37Harrison if he gets the pound this could be dangerous
01:10:39Jonathan Davies is back there for Wales
01:10:41tackled almost without the ball that time
01:10:45and the penalty to Wales
01:10:47another penalty to Wales
01:10:51Jonathan Davies
01:10:53none to please the attention that he got from Mike Harris
01:10:55and here we see Harrison putting pressure on the Welsh defence
01:10:57and Jonathan Davies covering back as he always tends to do
01:10:59picks up the ball excellently
01:11:01and then Harrison as you can see has been very high there
01:11:03and it's a correct decision by Rennie Hooker
01:11:09another penalty to Wales
01:11:11Corbyn
01:11:13slights that one a little
01:11:15Harrison to Webb
01:11:17Webb with a dreadful forward pass in midfield
01:11:21and England
01:11:23lapsing in concentration
01:11:25the heads going down and not only on the field
01:11:27but also in the sand
01:11:29some woeful errors being made
01:11:31despite the fact that they've gained
01:11:33plentiful possession but on that far side
01:11:35we have Jim Fleming
01:11:37the Scots referee
01:11:39with his flag up
01:11:41and of course the touch judges
01:11:43can only come where they've spotted
01:11:45illegal or
01:11:47off play
01:11:49so the decision
01:11:51will be explained to both captains
01:11:53the impeccable French have no doubt
01:11:59I think
01:12:01it was a case Martin that England took
01:12:03the quick throw in which obviously wasn't on the right spot
01:12:05so now Wales presumably have got the option
01:12:07of putting the ball into the scrum
01:12:09and Wales
01:12:11taking their time of taking up that option
01:12:13but it's going to be a scrum
01:12:1515 metres in
01:12:17on the far touchline
01:12:19Robert Jones not satisfied with the
01:12:21positioning
01:12:23of Gary Pearce's feet
01:12:27back it goes on the Welsh side
01:12:29a pick up by Moriarty
01:12:31doesn't find much room there
01:12:33England's cover there
01:12:35England have the ball
01:12:37Harrison up against Adrian Hadley again
01:12:39Hadley gets hold of his man
01:12:41back inside it comes, the Welsh cover is there
01:12:43the ball still available, Jonathan Davies
01:12:45thinking about a fly hat
01:12:49Hadley getting his man
01:12:51that time
01:12:55I'd have thought that Martin Wales would be quite happy to see
01:12:57England move the ball, they don't seem to be making any
01:12:59headway at all
01:13:01Robert Jones, the drive coming from
01:13:03the Welsh
01:13:05Jonathan Davies
01:13:07that's a bit of a kick
01:13:09from Jonathan Davies, that's going to stretch Webb
01:13:11all across field, Iain Evans going up very quickly
01:13:13on the England full-back, this is Rory Underwood
01:13:15I saw a bit of interplay between Webb
01:13:17and Underwood on that far side
01:13:19but it comes to nothing and that's been the story
01:13:21of England, they've
01:13:23really tried to stretch this Welsh defence
01:13:25but haven't been able to
01:13:27find the holes
01:13:29and again we saw there
01:13:31the excellent defensive work, I know we've been on about it
01:13:33all afternoon, the excellent defensive work of
01:13:35John Devereaux
01:13:37Wales go rushing through, Dean Richards does well for England
01:13:39though, to recover
01:13:41Wales waiting for the possession
01:13:43it is not
01:13:45going to come out of there, says Remy Urquhart
01:13:47and so they go down
01:13:49for another scrum
01:13:5115 metres in from the far touchline
01:13:55Surprise
01:13:57for winning this particular match
01:13:59I don't have to remind you
01:14:01it's a feast against the All Blacks
01:14:05Robert Jones
01:14:07the box kick is meant for Iain Evans to chase
01:14:09Underwood is back there
01:14:11and Underwood dropping the ball
01:14:13at the vital moment, right in the corner
01:14:17so everything just about going right for Wales
01:14:19at this moment
01:14:21and everything going wrong for England
01:14:23but there are still
01:14:25some 30 minutes of actual time
01:14:27left with time added on for injuries
01:14:29and there's not a great deal in it
01:14:31England could well break out
01:14:37Phillips with a throw to the back
01:14:39it's taken by Moriarty
01:14:41Wales looking for
01:14:43a clean possession, it's Gareth Roberts
01:14:45trying to worm his way through
01:14:47there's a splash of water, shows you the damp
01:14:49conditions that these players have been
01:14:51experiencing throughout the afternoon
01:14:53that's a rather quizzical decision
01:14:55from Rennie, OK
01:14:57anything wrong with that?
01:14:59Harding waits
01:15:01trying to catch
01:15:03the most covered off side
01:15:05there's the attempted breakout
01:15:07from Adrian Hadley
01:15:09a super pick up by Hadley
01:15:11but a penalty to England
01:15:13once again
01:15:19and pointing to the Welsh defender
01:15:21offender rather
01:15:27rather strange decision
01:15:29from Rennie, OK this afternoon
01:15:31that's a fine kick
01:15:33which takes play to
01:15:356 or 7 metres
01:15:37on the halfway line
01:15:39Wales still in the lead
01:15:41the two tries called by Robert Jones
01:15:43and Gareth Roberts
01:15:45one converted by Paul Thornton
01:15:51Alan Phillips
01:15:53having a slight difficulty
01:15:55hearing the signal
01:15:57went for Moriarty but Richards takes it
01:15:59a bit of misunderstanding that time
01:16:01and Phillips may well have misread the call
01:16:05Wales
01:16:07having to do a bit of defensive work
01:16:09just inside their own heart
01:16:11and a penalty once again
01:16:13and to the loose
01:16:15Well certainly
01:16:17that type
01:16:19of collapse under the field
01:16:21does not happen very often
01:16:23when the All Blacks play
01:16:25they tend to stay up on their feet
01:16:27and what we've really seen
01:16:29this afternoon is a classic
01:16:31competition between two northern hemisphere
01:16:33countries to all be different
01:16:35against the All Blacks should Wales
01:16:37or England get through
01:16:39The other worrying thing Martin if Wales do get through
01:16:41is the number of penalties we've conceded this afternoon
01:16:43and when you consider the
01:16:45player, the capability of Grant Fox
01:16:47a player for New Zealand
01:16:49he could punish Wales quite severely
01:16:51if we do get through
01:16:53Alan Phillips
01:16:55waiting this time
01:16:57hearing the
01:16:59absolute right call by again a single possession
01:17:01from the line-out famous
01:17:03classic chance for Simms
01:17:05Simms is that a penalty
01:17:07well it might well have been given that one
01:17:09before an intentional knock-on
01:17:11It's Redmond leading the England
01:17:13charge just outside the
01:17:15Welsh 22
01:17:17Wales searching for the ball but it won't come out of there
01:17:19because the whistle's gone from Rennie Urquhart
01:17:21and the award's for Simms
01:17:27Rather subdued at
01:17:29Ballet Mall Park we've really not had
01:17:31the kind of excitement
01:17:33that could be generated by some of the games
01:17:35in this World Cup competition
01:17:37which tended to be a rather dour event
01:17:39albeit determined
01:17:41On the far side it's
01:17:43Underwood, Underwood up against Iain Evans
01:17:45the Kneffey man gets the
01:17:47lesser man
01:17:49No good defensive work by
01:17:51Iain Evans, the hold of the
01:17:53English fire
01:17:57Yet
01:17:59another injury and great work
01:18:01there by Iain Evans because Underwood was really travelling
01:18:03at speed and he had quite a substantial
01:18:05amount of room outside Iain Evans but the
01:18:07Kneffey right winger did very very well to hold him
01:18:09and obviously Underwood has conceded the penalty
01:18:11Here we see England
01:18:13with the pitchers picking up and
01:18:15giving to Harding and
01:18:17we see Underwood within 15 yards to try and go outside
01:18:19Iain Evans but an excellent defensive work
01:18:21by him
01:18:23I can't really understand why the penalty was given
01:18:27Unfortunately that's
01:18:29been a feature of the refereeing at Ballet Mall Park
01:18:31as some of the decisions
01:18:33have been quizzical to say the least
01:18:35I think also the feature
01:18:37Martin is the defensive work of the
01:18:39Welsh, England have probably won
01:18:41a dominated possession this afternoon
01:18:43certainly in line-out and certainly loose play
01:18:45but an excellent defensive
01:18:47work allied to some poor
01:18:49decision making by the England bats especially the
01:18:51half-backs
01:18:53Bourbon with a kick
01:18:55and a crazy
01:18:57neatly in the touch on that
01:18:59far side midway between the 22
01:19:01and the halfway line
01:19:0332 minutes of play
01:19:05Wales 10, England 0
01:19:07Ball comes back to Robert Jones
01:19:09to Jonathan Davies, are we going to see the Welsh three-quarters
01:19:11in flight? This is John Devereaux
01:19:13Devereux to Hadley up against Harrison
01:19:15Hadley with a kick down towards
01:19:17Webb, he's taken by Paul Moriarty
01:19:19the fronty man tries to turn
01:19:21the bristle man around but England have it
01:19:23Harrison with a stone-hard pass, out he goes to
01:19:25Simms on the far side to Jamie Salmon
01:19:27to Underwood, Underwood up against Iain Evans
01:19:29once again and Underwood is away
01:19:31from Iain Evans, Underwood on the far side
01:19:33back inside to the underwinger, Harrison
01:19:35Harrison is half-tackled just inside
01:19:37the Welsh 22, good play by
01:19:39the England wings and it's a penalty to England
01:19:41high tackle and it's been registered
01:19:43by Rene Urquhart
01:19:45but certainly Underwood
01:19:47getting away from Iain Evans that time
01:19:49and causing all kinds of problems for the Welsh defence
01:19:51and that's certain liven things
01:19:53that's here at Ballymore and here we see
01:19:55Underwood having broken away from Iain Evans
01:19:57looks inside for the support
01:19:59Mike Harrison coming into the play shortly
01:20:01a rather dangerous tackle
01:20:03there by Dick Moriarty which has resulted
01:20:05in the England penalty
01:20:0938 minutes to go, I think
01:20:11we've got to still realise, the Welsh team have got to realise
01:20:13that there are dangerous players in the England team
01:20:15provided they can be used properly
01:20:17well away to our right
01:20:19we can see Robert Morster
01:20:21leaving the field with the Welsh Physiotherapist
01:20:23there they are, Robert Morster
01:20:25doesn't look as if he can
01:20:27see this game through
01:20:29and so the Welsh replacement
01:20:31Neil Richards
01:20:33great moment for him
01:20:37Neil Richards of Neats
01:20:39coming on, the play going on on the far side
01:20:41as England go rummaging through
01:20:43looking for the possession
01:20:45but denied possession
01:20:47as we still await
01:20:49for Wales to feel the full compliment of players on this field
01:20:57and the delay
01:20:59actually is because Robert
01:21:01Morster is having a word with the Australian
01:21:03Medical Doctor
01:21:05he has to be passed unfit
01:21:07there's the signal which means
01:21:09that Neil Richards once
01:21:11he's noticed by Rene Urquet
01:21:13will be allowed to take off to the field
01:21:15Harding
01:21:19up to Webb
01:21:21well marshalled that time by Paul Corbyn
01:21:23and John Devereaux, the pucky comes
01:21:25on the England side, Harrison
01:21:27and he more or less
01:21:29drove into Alan Phillips
01:21:31I think it was that time
01:21:33and that again
01:21:35no need, it was Anthony Buchanan
01:21:37who drove into the man
01:21:39from West Dunkin Light and that was deemed to be
01:21:41a dangerous tackle
01:21:43that seemed quite a solid tackle there from Buchanan
01:21:45I think reflected in the anger that Robert Jones
01:21:47showed, a fine tackle as far as I was
01:21:49concerned and it's nice really
01:21:51to see some of the forwards tackling
01:21:53and here we see Harrison trying to break infield
01:21:55he's got a little bit of room to move
01:21:57but there we see Buchanan hitting him with the shoulder
01:21:59which is I think a legal tackle
01:22:01as I was saying, it's nice to see the
01:22:03forwards getting about and tackling and running
01:22:05we've seen Buchanan and David Young
01:22:07in their first game
01:22:09having the ball in their hands and having the confidence
01:22:11to do something with it
01:22:13Neil Richards' lead is on
01:22:15but certainly the
01:22:17decision
01:22:19of their tackle
01:22:21somewhat controversial
01:22:23it looked a fair shoulder charge
01:22:25but Mike Harrison, the England wing
01:22:27simply felt the weight
01:22:29of the tenacity prop Anthony Buchanan
01:22:35smelling salt
01:22:37bringing him around
01:22:39as you said Martin, I think he did feel the
01:22:41effect of it but at the end of the day
01:22:43it was a fair challenge, a very hard
01:22:45challenge but a fair one
01:22:47and of course
01:22:49an excellent opportunity with
01:22:51four minutes to go for John
01:22:53Webb to get England on
01:22:55to the scoreboard
01:22:57not a difficult
01:22:59kick as we saw
01:23:01in the first half, Paul Corbin
01:23:03missed one from a similar distance
01:23:05and of course at this vital stage
01:23:07of the competition, there is no such
01:23:09thing as an easy kick
01:23:13nothing to show
01:23:15so far
01:23:1723 metres
01:23:19it's more or less
01:23:21a direct shot
01:23:25Webb
01:23:27safely there, England are on
01:23:29to the scoreboard
01:23:31and we approach
01:23:33the 36th minute of this
01:23:35second half
01:23:39ten points to three
01:23:41and really everything to play for
01:23:43but it must be said
01:23:45that the tempo of this match
01:23:47is way
01:23:49way removed from the tempo
01:23:51of the All Blacks player
01:23:53certainly
01:23:55poor in comparison Martin to the game
01:23:57witnessed yesterday, Australia and Ireland
01:23:59which wasn't given a great deal of credit
01:24:01played much quicker pace than we've seen
01:24:03all them to restart
01:24:07Webb
01:24:09fresh from his penalty success
01:24:11and a good kick
01:24:13that time by Webb, clearing his line
01:24:15from 35 metres
01:24:17the term being expressed
01:24:19by the England camp
01:24:21ten points in it though
01:24:23and plenty of time to play
01:24:25we're now into the 37th minute
01:24:27of the second half and of course
01:24:29there'll be a fair amount of time added on for injuries
01:24:33Phillips with a throw
01:24:35Moriarty, tremendous jump
01:24:37by the Swansea man
01:24:39but not allowed
01:24:41the throw in not straight
01:24:43the option to England
01:24:45down they go for a scrum
01:24:47one must credit
01:24:49this Welsh front row
01:24:51a highly controversial and experimental
01:24:53selection, they stuck to their task
01:24:55but England have this one
01:24:57as the Welsh drive across field
01:24:59Moriarty with a pick up, runs into Rees
01:25:03and a little bit of aggravation
01:25:05from Hugh Richards
01:25:07going through on
01:25:09Richards on Richards really
01:25:11on Dean Richards
01:25:13showing
01:25:15the lock
01:25:17from Leicester
01:25:19as he was on the field
01:25:23and the option to be given
01:25:25on the free kick to England once again
01:25:27and this will be a worry
01:25:29a bit of indiscipline, a little bit of back chat
01:25:31to Rene Urquet and away come England again
01:25:33set up by Winterbottom
01:25:35down onto the deck
01:25:37it comes from Moore, Rees charges
01:25:39on for England as well, Harding
01:25:41waits for the possession, up to Williams
01:25:43that's going to go for the corner, that's going to bring
01:25:45pressure onto the Welsh, Ian Evans giving
01:25:47chase, and England
01:25:49beginning to sense that they may be able
01:25:51to pull this one out of the bag, and I think they've
01:25:53decided on a tighter approach Martin
01:25:55I think it may be a little bit late for them but they certainly
01:25:57decided to play a tighter game with the ball
01:25:59being driven to the corner
01:26:01this is Alan Phillips
01:26:03the injured party
01:26:05and we're
01:26:07quickly running out of people
01:26:09who've not been injured in this game at a Welsh camp
01:26:13and I'm sort of absolutely delighted of course
01:26:15that he's in, back into the Welsh reckoning
01:26:17having been called out here
01:26:19having waited five years for a recall
01:26:21five is his time
01:26:23you did compliment the Welsh
01:26:25front row earlier on and I think all credit
01:26:27equally to the three of them but possibly
01:26:29a special mention to Alan, I think his presence
01:26:31with the young lads who've come in, I'd have thought
01:26:33has been very, very influential in this
01:26:35eclipse this afternoon
01:26:37Tony Gray flanked by Mark Titley and
01:26:39Kevin Hopkins
01:26:43so this is a worrying time
01:26:45for Wales as we go
01:26:47into injury
01:26:49time, albeit by 20 seconds
01:26:53and then it'll depend on the watch
01:26:55of Rennie Urquhart, there have been several stoppages
01:26:57Phillips throws, goes back
01:26:59on the Welsh side, Robert Jones
01:27:01into touch, who's touched in flight as well
01:27:03Alan Phillips goes running through as well
01:27:07but it'll be an England throw once again
01:27:09and they've got the main target men
01:27:13Dean Richards at the back and Redman
01:27:15at the front, Richards
01:27:17to Redman on the peel
01:27:19England setting it up, just inside
01:27:21the Welsh 22
01:27:23Reitz sending a hand there
01:27:25so too has Chilcot the replacement
01:27:27a little bit of indecision once again, that could be costly
01:27:29for England, that was
01:27:31good ball, well won by the forwards
01:27:33Wales trying to salvage
01:27:35something for it, away goes
01:27:37Salmon to Harding
01:27:39Harding on the far side
01:27:41trying to get the ball, a good pick up by Richie Collins
01:27:43he laid back at the Welsh drive in
01:27:45and set it up for the defensive kick for Robert Jones
01:27:51well that's the penalty
01:27:53and the explanation from
01:27:55Rene Urquhart, certainly mystifying
01:27:57everybody but it certainly is a penalty
01:27:59to Wales
01:28:01I thought he was suggesting there that Robert Jones had knocked on
01:28:03and Robert had actually touched the ball
01:28:05but yes, I think his signals have been rather mystifying
01:28:07this afternoon, the way things have been going
01:28:09it wouldn't have surprised any of us
01:28:11Paul Thorburn with the kick from the 22
01:28:13all the way down to Rory Underwood
01:28:15and England now being forced to counter attack
01:28:17from anywhere on the field if they're going to stay alive
01:28:19in a World Cup competition
01:28:21Harrison up against Hadley
01:28:23two men outside, he decides to go
01:28:25and then goes on his own, up against Hadley
01:28:27and that surely was a mistake by the England
01:28:29captain, two men outside and going
01:28:31rather selfishly on his own
01:28:33I think that reflects
01:28:35the play of the England
01:28:37backs today, I think first of all they played a completely
01:28:39wrong game because they should
01:28:41have taken Wales up more
01:28:43up front I feel, and the decision making
01:28:45behind has been dreadful
01:28:47the throw to the middle, Dooley
01:28:49palms down but it's bad ball for Harding
01:28:51the fifth again is a penalty
01:28:53to England
01:28:55against Wales
01:28:57Harding
01:28:59quickly taken up the
01:29:01east of Nottingham, the Nottingham man
01:29:03goes down towards the Welsh 22
01:29:05and a penalty, well it's becoming a succession
01:29:07rather ridiculous this match at the moment
01:29:09the decisions
01:29:11of René Urquet are often confusing
01:29:13but this circuit of
01:29:15penalties
01:29:17giving the game
01:29:19intermittent quality
01:29:23Corbyn
01:29:25with a kick into touch, we are well
01:29:27into injury time, two and a half minutes
01:29:29of injury time played, Wales still
01:29:31leading ten points to three
01:29:33and surely now they can look
01:29:35forward to their next Brisbane game
01:29:37David Young
01:29:39wearing the scars of battle
01:29:41the ball to the
01:29:43back of the liner, England
01:29:45last desperate attack may be, Sims
01:29:47missed out a man, to Webb, Underwood on the far
01:29:49side, has a dink, Guyon-Evans has
01:29:51hold his man this time
01:29:53no release of the ball as yet
01:29:55now it comes out
01:29:57and another with a friction
01:30:01well the advantage was paid and back they'll come
