00:00In between the major hubs of Houston and Austin sits rural Round Top, Texas, population 87.
00:09Yeah, you heard that right.
00:12This one square mile is famous for its antique shows,
00:15but it's also where New Jersey native Matt White set up his shipping container empire, Flophouse, with a Z.
00:23Hey guys, welcome to my crib. Come on in.
00:26As he traveled the world, Matt found himself coming back to Round Top.
00:29This time with a housing plan.
00:32I studied containers for a very long time.
00:34I learned probably more than I ever needed to know, but there was no blueprints.
00:37This was all ad hoc.
00:39To some degree, you have some drawings, and they were probably done on a napkin.
00:43Flophouse idea kind of just came out of nowhere.
00:46It really was like, I want to build one of these for myself.
00:49And then that kind of just slowly transitioned into why build one, because it's just as easy to build three.
00:54Then it was like, well, let's build six.
00:58So what exactly is a Flophouse?
01:00My mother won't remember this, but one time she's like, your dormitory looks like a Flophouse.
01:05And Flophouses, if you look it up in history, were kind of like these where vagabonds would go,
01:11and they were cheap places to stay, and we're the antithesis of that.
01:16Now, Matt's mother would be proud.
01:18In addition to the six different container homes,
01:21his vast property includes his 12,000-square-foot salvage warehouse and a refreshing pool.
01:28So Texas gets pretty hot, and when you have a container home, why not have a container pool?
01:34This was probably one of the best purchases I've ever made in my life.
