00:00Why? It's game week for week number one in college football.
00:09We shared yesterday week zero was a wonderful appetizer that
00:13if it means anything for the entirety of 2024, we can expect
00:17chaos all four underdogs covering the spread in the four
00:21FPS games that we had on Saturday, but again, it's just
00:24four FPS games. We've got more than that on Friday. We've got
00:29six. We got twenty-one on Thursday, two days out. We've
00:33got sixty-seven sixty-seven FPS games on Saturday. It makes me
00:38emotional when I think about it one on Sunday one on Monday as
00:42well starting in two days, five consecutive days of college
00:47football. So let's go to that Friday night slate in Oklahoma,
00:51the sixteenth ranked team in the preseason now a member of
00:54the SEC will get ready to go for you. You want to take it?
01:02You want you want to set the stage? Oh, man. That's good.
01:07Hold on. You saw our producer. No bad. No bad. No bad. Yeah.
01:11Listen, you saw our producer Joe Friso yesterday. You did not
01:15hear him right there, but in our headsets in our IFB, he
01:19wanted to let me know that one second for the graphic. No, I
01:22agree Joe. It just was pretty good as we're building up the
01:25game to say it right then and there. It does stem a little
01:29bit of the momentum, but the graphic is now here and thank
01:33God we have a graphic to show that Oklahoma is a forty-two
01:37and a half point favorite in their season opener in Norman
01:41against Temple that over under fifty-eight and a half. So
01:45again, you'll see this in spots in week number one, whether
01:49it's a lowly FBS program like Temple or an FCS team. You're
01:53going to see a lot of highly ranked teams around the
01:56country be a hefty favorite by many many touchdowns where the
02:00spread almost equals the total. Oh, you lay in forty-two and a
02:05half at home in the over under fifty-eight and a hook DRS. I
02:09was looking at that great graphic now back up on the
02:11screen of forty-two and a half point favorite and a real pros
02:13crowd doesn't even care what graphic goes up on the screen
02:16nor does he know what graphic is going up on the screen. You
02:18can just you know with the pause or delay for anything at
02:20this point, but if we are setting up this game, this
02:23should be a blowout route and the shame of it is to from a
02:25Temple perspective. You know me. I'm close to Philadelphia
02:27here. Big Eagles fan grew up watching Temple basketball with
02:30John Chaney years and certainly rooting them on they had that
02:34resurgence there. You know the Al Golden years and setting up
02:37things you know and you take a look at them with a sold out
02:40Lincoln financial field almost knocking off a solid Notre Dame
02:42team then falling back to these measures, which last year what
02:45do we have 130? Is it 135 or thirty-six? How many division
02:49one football teams do we have in the country? I think it's in
02:51the one thirties at this point three. Yeah. FBS entering 2024
02:56with the addition of Kennesaw State is 134 total programs.
03:00Yeah. So let's go 134 like you look at Temple last year 114th
03:04in points per game, 121 points per play and also 130th in
03:08Redstone scoring. You can't just take that on the road and
03:11say hey, let's say and granted we're using last year's
03:14statistics, but correct me if I'm wrong. Nobody's hyping up
03:16Temple to do any damage in college football this year.
03:19This is one of those games where Oklahoma sets their
03:21season schedule at home and says blow out win. Let's get
03:25right. Let's get out here to a great start and see what we can
03:27do. 58 and a half point total. That's not really necessarily
03:30on Temple. Can Temple get 14 points right? Cuz this is
03:33screaming Ben 35 to nothing in the second quarter. Those are
03:38the vibes I'm getting from this game. Listen, it's going to be
03:41very very difficult for Temple, a team that has gone three and
03:45nine in each of the last three years. Stan Drayton has been
03:48the head coach for the last two. So his combined record just
03:52six and 18. The Owls with bottom ten in terms of the
03:57returning production for 2024 only 36% of Temple's
04:02production from a season ago is back, which could be considered
04:06a good thing. Alright, we weren't very good. Let's get
04:08some new faces in new places or it's an indication. It's going
04:11to be another struggle because the guys that you would expect
04:14to be there for a year over year improvement aren't back for
04:18the Owls. That rule was great in Philadelphia. He won back to
04:22back years of ten games for Temple before he went on to
04:27Baylor. It continued over for a few years at Temple. It's been
04:32a struggle and as an underdog ten times a season ago, the
04:35Owls just two and eight against the spread. Now,
04:38Oklahoma, a ten-win football team last year in year number
04:41two in Norman under Brent Venables. You would think,
04:44okay, ten wins improving from just six in 2022. OU is going
04:50to make a statement in the SEC. The win total seven and a half
04:54and the under has the hefty juice. Why? Oklahoma's schedule
04:58one of the most difficult that you will see. The two newcomers
05:01into the Southeastern Conference. The two rivals that
05:04date back to the flag bearers of the big twelve. Oklahoma and
05:08Texas. One got a favorable schedule by SEC standards. That
05:12being the Longhorns. The other in the Sooners not so much.
05:16Oklahoma had the third best total offense last year
05:19averaging 507 yards per game. Nearly 42 points per game but
05:24that was Dylan Gabriel at the quarterback spot. Now, it's the
05:27future currently in Norman. Jackson Arnold, the sophomore
05:32takes over at the quarterback spot. Made his first start in
05:35the Alamo Bowl against Arizona. Some good, some bad. Twenty-six
05:40of forty-five for 361 yards. Two TDs but three INTs. Eleven
05:46carries for thirty-eight yards. He was the tenth best recruit
05:50nationally in the 2023 class. The fourth best quarterback in
05:54the country. Very high expectations for Arnold in his
05:58time in Norman but it could be a struggle of a season even for
06:02an Oklahoma team Donnie that enters the year ranked sixteenth
06:05in the country. Yeah, be careful what you wish for and
06:08this is I'm finally happy that this is all playing out because
06:11we understand the almighty dollar is driving these and you
06:14can't fault the chancellors, the presidents, the board of
06:17regents for saying, okay, we're making 40 million dollars on
06:19this hand. If we go to the SEC, we'll make 65 million dollars.
06:22Of course, that's going to make the most sense but from a fan
06:25perspective for Oklahoma, you're used to entering into
06:27your season saying, hey, we have an outside chance at
06:30least to make a run to the national championship which
06:32means recruiting is higher, fan base is higher, more apt to
06:35make donations. What happens if you go to the SEC and I'm not
06:38even going to downgrade Oklahoma and say, they're going
06:40to be a middling program but let's just say they're not
06:42challenging for the supremacy of the SEC. That fan base is
06:46going to be like, boy, was that a really good move because it's
06:48the almighty dollar when we head into the season, you can
06:50pencil in eight wins and if we beat our rival Texas in the Red
06:54River Rivalry, we might be headed to a big twelve
06:56championship and in the playoff, that's a lot more fun
06:58than going like, yeah, it's great being in the SEC but we
07:01only win seven to eight games per year. That is a gauntlet
07:04schedule on a year to year basis that you didn't used to
07:07have and now you do. I want to see how this plays out. Here is
07:11the schedule. SEC opener for Oklahoma at home against
07:15Tennessee on Saturday, September 21st. They have the
07:19Red River Rivalry that continues road trips to Ole
07:22Miss, Missouri, and LSU and sandwiched in between. It's a
07:26home game against Alabama. It is daunting for Oklahoma, a
07:32team that dominated the big twelve unlike Texas who won its
07:35first conference championship since 2009 last year. OU had
07:39fourteen big twelve titles in the last twenty-five seasons
07:44elsewhere on Friday. TCU looks for a bounce back in 2024 after
07:49a five-win season a season ago. They'll take on Stanford.
07:52Keep an eye on Josh Hoover passing yards prompt. Michigan
07:56State, it's the debut of the Jonathan Smith era. They're a
07:59two touchdown favorite against FAU.
