00:00Meanwhile, business leaders are gathering at the annual end-of-summer convention of
00:04MEDEF.
00:05That's France's largest employers' federation.
00:07Some were worried that it would energize the left even more and make voters angry.
00:11Others are relieved.
00:13France 24's Yuka Royer has been speaking with Laurent Saint-Martin, president of Business
00:18France.
00:19That's a government-backed organization charged with promoting French companies and exports
00:22and attracting foreign investment.
00:31I'm with Laurent Saint-Martin, president of Business France.
00:34It's a government-backed agency in charge of promoting French companies, exports and
00:39attracting international investments.
00:41Thank you for being with us.
00:43Now, how has the political limbo of the past few weeks impacted the business climate here
00:49in France?
00:50Well, actually, you know, all the foreign investors are aware that French President
00:56Emmanuel Macron is very committed to keep our country very attractive.
01:01So, of course, it's special and new in France because we are waiting for a new government.
01:06But what happened yesterday was very important because the far-left wing was rejected as
01:13a possible government in France, meaning that the politics in terms of attractiveness, in
01:18terms of economic politics, will remain the same or will remain attractive for foreign
01:24investors.
01:25So, it's very important because what we have done since now 2017 with the Choose France
01:31events are really a success because since now 2019, France is the top leader in Europe
01:41in terms of FDIs.
01:42And it's not a hazard because it's thanks to our French politics, tax politics and labor
01:50reforms.
01:51So, this is why now France is so attractive and it will remain.
01:56But France still does not have a new government, does not have a new Prime Minister.
02:00So, the President's decision yesterday only prolonged the political turmoil, don't you
02:05think?
02:06No, yeah, of course.
02:07It's, you know, when you're an investor, you hate uncertainty.
02:10So, you need to foresee what's going to happen for the next years in France and this is no
02:15more.
02:16So, some investors can wait.
02:19We understand that.
02:20But I just want to reassure them that the French President will remain French President
02:25until 2027 and this is the most important because he really represents the attractiveness
02:32politics in France.
