00:00We begin here in France, where the Paralympics may be starting next week, but the Olympic
00:04truce is over for French politics.
00:07Seven weeks after inconclusive snap elections, Emmanuel Macron is receiving delegations from
00:12major political groups this Friday and Monday.
00:15He says he expects to name his new prime minister soon afterwards.
00:20As a reminder, no group won a majority in the snap parliamentary elections, though the
00:24left-wing New Popular Front did score the most seats.
00:27They and their prime minister pick, Lucie Castaix, kicked off the meetings this morning.
00:32Let's hear what she had to say after speaking with President Emmanuel Macron.
00:36We are satisfied that the president has recognized that voters sent a message in the last elections
00:44and that their message is a need for a new direction in national politics.
00:50Our reporter Antonia Kerrigan is following those meetings for us.
00:53She told us more about what came out of that first meeting between Emmanuel Macron and
00:57the left-wing NFP.
00:58Remarkably upbeat, the feedback we've had from this meeting.
01:03They said that they went here, they came to the Elysee today to remind the president to
01:07respect the will of the people as expressed in those legislative elections in July.
01:13Now they said the president was lucid and that he recognizes as well that the French
01:18people voted for a cohabitation.
01:20They voted for the prime minister to not be of the same political colors as the president.
01:25However, they did say you could still sense that temptation on his part to form his own
01:31government.
01:32For their part, the left said that they are ready to compromise.
01:35Lucie Castaix said she will be looking for potential coalitions from today.
01:41What we've had, of course, is only one side of the story.
01:43We know the president will be meeting as well with the centrist bloc and the Republicans
01:47later today.
01:48It will be very interesting to compare the conclusions we have from those meetings.
01:53Another source of optimism for the leftist bloc, they said, Marine Tendulier of the Green
01:57Party said that she was optimistic on the basis that he received the left-wing coalition
02:03first out of all the different actors and that they were invited to come together and
02:07bring their candidate.
02:08So they're extremely optimistic.
02:09We'll have to wait and see for more.
