00:00Clovis Casali is following it all from the Elysee Palace in Paris.
00:06Clovis, can you fill us in a bit more on what is happening at the Elysee today?
00:12Well, the first to arrive at the Elysee Palace was the President of the National Assembly,
00:17Yael Brun-Pivén, a bright red dress which could possibly indicate on the political spectrum
00:23where the next government should be leaning towards, possibly of course.
00:29All speculation later, the National Rally, the French far right, Marine Le Pen, Jordan Bardella,
00:34coming here to the Elysee Palace to meet face to face with the French President,
00:39then Éric Ciotti, who is their ally from the traditional right-wing party,
00:44Les Républicains, who made that controversial alliance with the French far right.
00:50The French far right, the National Rally, saying they will tell President Macron
00:55that he needs to act quickly, urgently, to end the paralysis, the chaos that he plunged the country into.
01:02These talks are all about understanding, trying to assess who would back who in the next Assembly,
01:09which coalition government would be accepted, if not tolerated, by the other parties.
01:16And it's extremely tricky to form this new government, and that's why it's been taking time.
01:23But President Emmanuel Macron needs to find a Prime Minister, appoint him extremely quickly.
01:29Yes, the current Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, submitted his resignation some weeks ago.
01:35We've been living with a caretaker government here in France since then.
01:38When do we think, is there any indication of when a new Prime Minister might actually be announced?
01:45It's very difficult to say.
01:47President Macron could talk today at the end of these meetings with the various political parties.
01:54The Elysée refuses to confirm that, pointing instead that it will all depend on the result of these talks,
02:01if some success is achieved, if some points are agreed with the various political parties.
02:11What we do know is that the Elysée acknowledges that the centre, their party, their movement, did not win these past elections.
02:21At the same time, they say there's no clear majority, only minorities,
02:26therefore pointing in a way that the left wing hasn't got necessarily the right to govern.
02:33It will all depend on the alliances that are formed.
02:36The other thing we know is that, of course, the Paralympics are starting Wednesday evening
02:41and then President Macron, Thursday, is leaving for Serbia for a couple of days.
02:46Therefore, President Macron is expected to make an announcement to appoint a Prime Minister this week,
02:52but it could take, of course, more time, depending on the result of these talks.
02:57Of course, we have very important budget negotiations coming up in a very short time here in France.
03:05So he will be under pressure to get that government in place.
03:09That's Clovis Casali from the Elysée Palace here in Paris.
