00:00So namaste, we welcome you all for this wonderful event, our sincere gratitude to Acharya Prashanth
00:08ji and his team for kindly agreeing to address all of us today.
00:13So we are also very thankful to our director for encouraging us to conduct such events
00:17at our institute and also the most important part of any event is an audience.
00:23So thanks to all of you for showing great enthusiasm in joining this event.
00:29So after seeing your interest of students, I just try to go through all the questions
00:35to set the scene here.
00:38So what I felt was all the students and the faculty and staff here found that, wanted
00:46to ask the most important questions of life.
00:49The first one is who am I, what am I supposed to do?
00:54Because seeing that as a student, lot of students are working very hard, they are scoring
01:00good marks.
01:01There are lot of faculty who are working hard, getting good grants, publishing papers, still
01:07they find some emptiness somewhere.
01:10After doing everything very nice and becoming successful, everybody is seeing that there
01:15is something more I have to do.
01:17Though I am doing my conditional duty very well, there is something constitutionally
01:21I have to do something which is basically I am missing.
01:24And further that, we also wanted to, interested in knowing that what is the difference between
01:30a living body and a dead body?
01:32A living being has so many desires, feelings and aspirations.
01:36How do they disappear immediately after death?
01:39What exactly happens when the living body dies?
01:45And further, what is the real purpose of life?
01:48If you see, every day our objectives keep changing.
01:52As a student, we want to chase the ranks, grades and the career.
01:58Once we get the job, we wanted to go higher and higher in the ladder.
02:03So if you keep on changing, from time to time the goals are changing, but what is really
02:08we are getting is most of the times dissatisfaction, there is no peace in the mind and real happiness.
02:17So what is the real objective goal of everyone should be?
02:21Each one has different goals.
02:23As all individuals, what should we all aspire to aim for?
02:28So that is a thing.
02:30And also a lot of students are interested to know what is karma?
02:34How does karma give us happiness and distress?
02:37So as famous saying, there are three letters in English, B, C, D.
02:40There is a birth, there is a death.
02:42In between, there is something called choice.
02:45We neither chosen our parents nor our height, skin complexion or intellect, but somehow
02:51we have taken birth somewhere.
02:53And most of us also know guarantee that when we are going to die, but what type of choices
02:58we can make so that according to karma and karmic theory, so we can actually elevate
03:04our consciousness.
03:05That is something what people are interested to know.
03:08And also nowadays, a lot of people are mentally, physically healthy in spite having so much
03:15medical and technological advancement.
03:17So we can go to Amazon and order anything we want and we can consult any doctor.
03:22There is a lot of advancement, still people are depressed, distressed and misguided.
03:28And also how does good mental health actually lead to good physical health?
03:31It is said that if mind is strong, the body naturally becomes strong.
03:36And further, a lot of students have a question about anxiety and stress in life.
03:40How can one overcome them by developing a good mental health?
03:44Further going through that, we all know that modern way of solving the mental problems
03:50have not really resulted into any solutions.
03:53So that naturally look back to what the ancient India has to offer.
03:56So I am pretty sure that your great wisdom will help.
04:00So the final question is, we have so many varieties of religions and scriptures.
04:05What do they all tell us about ultimate purpose of life?
04:09So if we see, why am I living?
04:12The very existence comes as a question.
04:15So if you can kindly answer these questions as a part of this discussion, it will be great.
04:20Thank you very much.
04:23My name is Ravanshu and I am a third year student from CSA department.
04:30We take a student.
04:33I have a very small question in my mind, which almost all the students,
04:37whoever is pursuing a college life will face.
04:41And up to my question is, up to which level or which point a student should
04:48take care of his or her own college life problems?
04:52For example, sometimes academic pressure is there.
04:55Sometimes they have career pressure.
04:58Sometimes they have conflicts with their friends and all those details.
05:02Up to which level should a student take care of his or her own college life problems?
05:12There are many problems.
05:13For example, sometimes they have conflict with their friends.
05:17Sometimes they are not getting good marks in academics.
05:20Sometimes your friends are pursuing good internships, placements.
05:23They are not able to do it.
05:25So at what correct time or at what correct moment they should
05:30share these details with their family members?
05:32Because their family members, mother, father, they will be able to solve it.
05:38But there's also one point which comes in the back is if I'm sharing my problems,
05:42which I'm facing on the college with my family, they may also get worried about it.
05:48And they're worried will make me more stressed again.
05:53Okay.
05:54See, the first attempt must always be to solve it on your own.
06:02Whenever you are faced with problems, whether academic, interpersonal or of any other nature,
06:11first of all, obviously, you should try to grapple with them on your own and
06:19and see whether you can succeed.
06:23That is important because without struggling with problems, you will never develop
06:30that internal muscle that is very much needed in adult life.
06:38So you cannot rush to seek help for every small thing, right?
06:44And begin by trying to investigate the problem and seeing how you can solve it
06:54or go around it or whatever.
06:58Fail a couple of times.
07:01Still keep trying.
07:03And then, like a student of science, see what your efforts are amounting to.
07:18Take cognizance of the results because you cannot endlessly keep trying with the same approach.
07:27More efforts need to be made, obviously, but if you are not succeeding,
07:34then maybe the understanding of the problem is yet not deep enough.
07:41Maybe the point you are looking at the problem from is not clean enough.
07:51So, a point comes when you need to alter your approach.
08:00And when does that point come?
08:01How do you know?
08:04By first inquiring, you need a scientific attitude.
08:08You need to see to what extent your results have been beneficial.
08:16And secondly, by being honest, by asking yourself whether you have put in
08:23the right kind of effort at all.
08:27If you just say, oh, the results are poor and therefore now I am going out to seek help.
08:34That does not suffice because the results can be poor simply because of lack of application.
08:44But if you find that you have tried hard enough in your honest judgment, if you can
08:54verify that you have tried hard enough and in your impartial inquiry, if you can see
09:06that the results have not been good enough, that is the cutoff point.
09:14That is the threshold when you can start looking out for support.
09:20So, two things.
09:21One, have I tried hard enough?
09:23Second, have the results been very uninspiring?
09:31Have the results been, we could say, lackluster enough?
09:38If both these things are there, if both the conditions are met, then you can go out and
09:45seek help.
09:47Now, there is something that needs to be added here.
09:50Just going out and seeking help randomly is not going to be of much use.
09:58You need to know where to go to seek help.
10:06Right?
10:06Sometimes, as you said, parents might be the right ones to go to.
10:15Sometimes parents might not be the right ones to go to.
10:19It is an important part of the process of seeking help to know clearly, wisely,
10:30the point where good help can likely come from.
10:40Right?
10:41If you have a toothache, you cannot seek help from a cobbler, can you?
10:53Would be of no good, neither to the tooth, not even to the cobbler.
11:00So, know very clearly, to whom should I disclose my situation, right?
11:09And I would add here, it's not always necessary that you go to a human being.
11:19Just as you have specialists and experts in every field, we have had specialists of consciousness,
11:31experts in the domain called mind and life.
11:37They invested their entire life into studying the mind itself.
11:46Who we are, where do we come from, where do our problems come from?
11:54And hence, they have been able to study the mind and the mind itself.
12:01Where do our problems come from?
12:06And hence, how to solve those problems?
12:12Who will solve those problems?
12:15Right?
12:16So, you may decide to go to the right literature, to the right books.
12:24So, you should know whether you need help and you should also know where that help will probably come from and always remain open.
12:41You must know that all that you are doing is for the sake of a solution.
12:47So, keep inquiring, am I getting closer to any kind of possible solution?
12:58Or am I just entertaining myself with several kinds of methods?
13:07Right?
13:08And if you have that love for solution, then that love will prevent you from being rigid.
13:20You will try one thing, you will try another thing and you will not stop till you succeed.
