Today we continue our look at the devblogs for the next update, this time looking at the ZSU-23-4M2 or Shilka-M2, a variant of the existing Shilka which is outfitted for the ground escort role by removing its radar and doubling the ammuntion capacity.

So join me as we take a look at this new SPAA vehicle and what this means for the Soviet SPAA line.

00:00So continuing with our look at the dev blogs for the next update,
00:03today we are going to be taking a look at the ZSU-23-4M2, or Shilka M2,
00:10which is a new Soviet SPAA vehicle which is going to be coming to the Russian Tech Tree at rank 5.
00:15So of course we've already got the regular Shilka in the Russian Tech Tree at rank 6,
00:19battle rating 8.0, and this is basically going to be the same vehicle with two major differences,
00:25one being the removal of the radar, so you're not going to have any radar for
00:29detecting enemy aircraft, which is going to put you at a bit of a disadvantage,
00:33although I suppose with the radar being gone you'll be a little bit more conspicuous
00:37when concealing yourself from ground forces, and the other big difference is that the ammo
00:41capacity is going to be doubled from 2,000 rounds to 4,000, because basically this was intended to
00:47be used as a ground escort vehicle during the Soviet-Afghan war, so anti-air work wasn't
00:51necessarily so important. And other than that it's going to be basically the same vehicle,
00:56so extremely light armor, a top speed of 31 miles per hour on five gears forward,
01:014.3 on one gear backwards, and you're going to have a crew of four, and presumably because the
01:07ammo capacity is going to be doubled it's going to be a little bit more susceptible to ammo
01:12racking. And as for where it's going to go in the Tech Tree, I suspect it's going to come between the
01:1657-2 and the 37-2. The 37-2 of course has a radar, the 57-2 doesn't, so I think it might come in at
01:24battle rating 7.3, and it's going to make the Soviet SPAA lines at rank 5 very powerful,
01:31because of course this is going to be going up against late war props and early jets, so this
01:35is going to be a very powerful vehicle. It's not going to do so well in the ground attack role,
01:39because of course at 8.0 the regular Shilka, it can deal with some enemy tanks like the Leopard
01:44or the M48A2, especially flanking, but some of the other tanks like the Tiger II definitely won't be
01:51able to take them on frontally. You will be able to do a little bit better in flanking attacks,
01:55but even then they still have pretty decent armour. But yeah, it will make the Soviet Tech
01:59Tree very powerful at rank 5. It's kind of a shame that we're getting more Soviet SPAAs,
02:04especially when the Americans still haven't got anything for tier 4 and haven't done for quite a
02:09long time at this point, and of course a lot of people don't like the rank 3 vehicles necessarily.
02:13So while this is a decent vehicle, I hope we do start seeing some more unique vehicles for the
02:18other Tech Trees, and again it's not exactly a hard-to-add vehicle because it's very similar to
02:22an already existing vehicle, like with the previous T1E1 devlog, but we'll just have to
02:27see how it performs in-game. Anyway, that was just a quick video looking at the ZSU-23 4M2.
02:34Hopefully you've enjoyed it. I've been Toreno, and I'll see you next time.
