Today we take a look at the first devblog covering a premium vehicle, in the form of the KV-1 m1942, a Soviet KV-1 Model 1942 that was captured and pressed into service by Finland and will be coming to the Swedish tech tree at Rank 3!

00:00So, continuing our look at the dev blogs for the next update, today we've got our first dev blog
00:05about a premium vehicle, the KV-1 M1942, which is a heavy tank that's going to be coming to the
00:12Swedish tech tree at rank 3. So basically, this is a KV-1 model 1942 that was captured by the Finns,
00:20and this is one of the later models of the KV-1, and it's quite a good model because it's fitted
00:25with the SIS-5 gun, as well as a quite heavily armoured turret. So we'll look at the SIS-5 gun
00:32first and compare it to the KV-1 L11 gun. On the L11, its stock 350A shell has 70mm penetration
00:39at 500m. Compare that to the SIS-5 with its stock 350A shell, and it has 77mm penetration. So,
00:48a little bit better penetrating, it's a little bit more effective at anti-tank work,
00:52and we're told in the dev blog that the turret is going to be about 100mm for the sides and
00:5682-90mm for the front, and it does look to be a lot more curved. It looks like it's using a cast
01:02turret, so not the more angular turrets of the earlier models, which use RHA armour. This will
01:08probably give it about roughly the same armour protection as the KV-1E, so that's got additional
01:14armour plates fitted to the side. Of course, cast armour in-game does have a slight negative
01:20modifier, so it doesn't protect quite as well as RHA armour, but hopefully the curving of the
01:25turret will make up for that, whereas tanks like the KV-1E just have very flat plates. And da-da-da,
01:31it seems to have roughly the same top speed, so about 34kmh or a little over 21mph, and it should
01:37have the same five-man crew. So, it seems like it'll be a decent vehicle. It's a shame that it's
01:42going to be a premium vehicle, because of course Sweden doesn't really have much in the way of
01:46heavy tanks in its tech tree. In fact, looking at the Swedish tech tree, I don't think they have
01:50any heavy tanks, to be honest. So, it would have been nice to get a heavy tank, even if it was a
01:56captured model. And also, it would be nice for the Soviets to get the Model 1942, because I don't
02:00think they have the Model 1942 themselves. But yeah, there's not really an alternative heavy
02:04tank for the Swedish tech tree. I mean, maybe you could use the Kranvagn, although I'm not sure if
02:10that was even fully finished. I think they only finished the hull of that tank, so maybe Gaijin
02:15would have to make an exception there. But yeah, other than that, there's not really much in the
02:19way of heavy tanks for the Swedish tech tree. So yeah, it's a shame that this is going to be a
02:23premium vehicle, but it'll be a decent enough vehicle, I think. You know, it's got a decent
02:27enough gun. It'll be pretty heavily armoured. I suspect it'll probably come in at around battle
02:31rating 4.0, maybe 4.3, something along those lines. But we'll just have to see how it performs in game.
02:39Anyway, just a quick video looking at the KV-1 M1942. Hopefully you've enjoyed this dev blog.
02:44Hopefully you'll join me for the next one. I've been Tereno, and I'll see you next time.
