00:31has recently brought severe flooding to Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
00:36Disasters are expected to increase by 40% by 2030. We are building risk rather than decreasing it.
00:44We need the critical mass to achieve this change for the people in the Asia-Pacific
00:51that is the most disaster-prone region in the world.
00:54The calamity underscores the urgent need for comprehensive disaster management strategies.
01:00In response to these escalating challenges, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction
01:06has launched the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in the
01:11Philippines. This critical event aims to address the growing threats posed by natural calamities
01:17brought by climate change and human activities. The Philippines, situated in the highly vulnerable
01:24Asia-Pacific region, will serve as a host for the conference which will run from October 14
01:30to October 17. We would like to project is number one the resilience of the Filipino character as
01:36far as how we have been able to actually confront, overcome, and thrive under the face of these risks.
01:44This gathering will bring together representatives from 62 countries to discuss strategies for
01:50improving disaster preparedness and resilience. The conference is set to focus on several key
01:56areas. Enhancing public and private sector collaboration to take proactive measures to
02:01mitigate risks and natural disasters such as storms, earthquakes, and floods. Utilizing
02:08technology specifically promoting the use of early warning systems and other technological
02:13tools to improve disaster readiness. Get a funding opportunities for disaster risk reduction projects.
02:19Risk financing as an insurance and the way we handle sub-national risk is one of those areas
02:28which we need to actually build on. Our agricultural sector of course is in need of a stronger insurance
02:38capacity. Further, it aims to strengthen global cooperation to expedite aid to disaster-stricken
02:44areas. The event will also address the need for resilience against a variety of disasters
02:50and aims to support economic recovery and stability in affected regions. These are not just
02:56policy goals. They are vital components of a comprehensive approach that ensures no one is
03:02left behind as we build safer more resilient communities. This conference not only seeks to
03:09enhance the region's disaster response capabilities, but also offers a significant
03:14opportunity for economic growth by fostering international partnerships and investments
03:21in disaster risk reduction. This will boost our local economy. It will give strength to the world
03:30that the Philippines is open. The new Philippines is open for international conferences
03:40that can help local tourism, local businesses, and other international organizations.
