00:00It was hard to contact some of the men who tested positive for MPAX in Metro Manila,
00:05so I couldn't be sure if they were quarantined.
00:08The Philippines also notified the World Health Organization
00:11that they are interested in buying a smallpax vaccine that can also be used against MPAX.
00:16Bernadette Reyes was the one who got infected.
00:21Fever, lesions, headache and body aches, and swelling of the lymph nodes.
00:27These are just a few of the symptoms of MPAX that are being monitored by close contacts
00:32of a 33-year-old confirmed case in Metro Manila.
00:36But according to the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit,
00:40of the 28 close contacts who are considered type 1 or more likely to get infected,
00:46it is hard to contact some of them.
00:49It is also important to ask for help from close contacts to avoid the spread of the disease.
00:54We don't know if they are following the home quarantine at this time.
00:58They just don't want to talk to us for whatever reason.
01:03They can't tell us who they encountered.
01:08So we're asking for their cooperation.
01:13The local government has now written to the management of SPA in Quezon City
01:18where the MPAX patient went even though he already has symptoms to get other details.
01:24There are wrong information in the list that was given to them.
01:28There's just something inconsistent because we're looking for something.
01:32The LGU is also doing an assessment on businesses in Luzon.
01:37In the reception, the business permit is there.
01:41Check if it's updated. Check if there's a sanitary permit.
01:45Then ask for a health card from the masseur.
01:51The Department of Health is also implementing guidelines or health protocols
01:56for businesses that have close contacts to customers,
02:00including parlors, barbershops and spas.
02:03No one will be left out if they wear gloves and face masks.
02:09Why? Because barbers, stylists and beauticians have intimate contacts.
02:15Our interest is to continue the business activities
02:19while making sure that health is still the main consideration.
02:24For now, the smallpax vaccine is being used in other countries as a countermeasure against MPAX.
02:29Here in the Philippines...
02:31Because the crisis is in Africa, I think they are prioritizing the distribution of vaccines.
02:37But we are very much interested and we have already signed an intent with the WHO
02:43that if the global strategy shifts and the distribution of vaccines starts,
02:47the hands of the Philippines will be raised.
02:50For GMA Integrated News, Bernadette Reyes, Nakatuto, 24 Hours.
