00:00The Quezon City local government has activated its quick response team after discovering
00:07the two establishments in the city were visited by the man who tested positive for monkey
00:12pox, the first case of m-pox this year.
00:16Contact tracing efforts revealed that the man, a government employee, first showed symptoms
00:21of monkey pox on August 8.
00:23Despite his condition, he visited an illegal spa on August 11, where he reportedly had
00:28sexual contact with a client in the facility.
00:31Four days later, he sought medical help at a dermatology clinic in Quezon City, where
00:36he was observed to have rash-like symptoms on his face, hands, and genital area, key
00:42indicators of monkey pox.
00:44A subsequent test confirmed he was positive for the virus.
00:49The Quezon City Health Department has identified 41 close contacts of the infected individual.
00:56Among them, 28 classified as type 1 contacts, indicating direct interaction with the patient
01:02and placing them at high risk of infection.
01:05Seven of close contacts are residents of Quezon City.
01:09Individuals who had direct contact with the man diagnosed with monkey pox are now in quarantine.
01:15The health condition of those exposed to the man, including those he touched or was in
01:20close proximity to, is being closely monitored.
01:23The man was a masseuse who directly touched the patient.
01:28And then the clients, the 27 clients we considered type 1, because we were not able to determine
01:35that allegedly there was a sexual encounter that happened at the spa.
01:40No need to panic, local officials repeatedly have told.
01:45They urge anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, rashes, or skin blisters to report
01:51them immediately.
01:53We should not panic or be alarmed because if we know how we will be infected, we need
02:02to protect ourselves.
02:04Our high risk are multiple sexual partners.
02:09If there are symptoms similar to mpox, we need to go to the nearest health facility.
