00:00You're not gonna be ready for week one.
00:02We gotta get ready for the Jets and we don't even know who's gonna be in the lineup.
00:05The Giants lineup, look, they're two games over .500.
00:08Ramos is starting to come back around.
00:10He had a good day at the plate.
00:13Look, the White Sox are 30-97.
00:17They had three hits yesterday.
00:18They're the equivalent of the 0-16 Detroit Lions.
00:22Oh, they might be worse than them.
00:25They might be worse than them.
00:26Didn't Cleveland go a season without winning the Game 2?
00:27They went two seasons with one win.
00:30I believe Hugh Jackson was 1-31.
00:321-32 or something like that.
00:341-31.
00:35Heading into his third year.
00:36He was awful.
00:37Right?
00:38He was awful.
00:39I could be wrong, but I think that's correct.
00:40I think the Browns went through a season without winning the game.
00:41So is this White Sox team, because we're gonna talk to somebody from Chicago a little bit
00:46later.
00:47By the way, Jen Lee-Chan at 830.
00:48But Matt Spiegel, Matt Spiegel, 670 to score at Chicago.
00:54And they're the flagship station of the Chicago White Sox.
00:58And I'm not sure how much White Sox baseball they're talking about.
01:00Or you can lean into it and just be like, this team is so terrible.
01:04You could do like a tracker.
01:05I started doing that a couple weeks ago on this show.
01:0930-97.
01:10There are 67 games under 500.
01:13They were eliminated on like August 10th.
01:16Are we watching the worst professional team of our lifetime?
01:22The Charlotte Bobcats when they first came out were pretty bad.
01:26This is bad, bad.
01:28This is bad, bad.
01:29Like, you're not an expansion team.
01:31You've been around for over 100 years, 100 years, and you're 30-97 in today's day and
01:40age in baseball.
01:42What about the 17-win Warriors?
01:44They're not as bad as this.
01:47This is bad, bad.
01:48Bobby Serra.
01:49I'm looking at this team, and look, Andrew Vodge struck it out three times.
01:55I guess we can give credit to Robby Ray for going six innings and striking out nine, but
01:59it's tough for me to pump my chest up and say, boy, Giants have won three in a row.
02:04You know what the saddest part of last night watching sports was?
02:07Not the Giants game.
02:08It was me flipping around channels, and the Padre game popped up on my feed, and I watched
02:14Jerks and Profar, who anyone in baseball could have had for pennies, hit a ball down the
02:20line for a home run on a Tuesday night at San Diego.
02:24And I watched the crowd, and I listened to the crowd, and I said to myself, dear God,
02:29I remember when AT&T, aka Oracle, aka Pac-Bell Park felt like that on a Tuesday night.
02:34And everybody, all these giant fan snobs online, all right, you know exactly who you are.
02:40The same ones that cape up for, you know, platooning Austin Slater when he's actually
02:45not good anymore against lefties, even though Baltimore did that yesterday, batting him
02:48lead off.
02:52The fans have rejected the Giants' brand of baseball.
02:55And I look over at the Padres, and you can say, Joe, they haven't won anything.
02:58They haven't won anything.
02:59No, I'm not going to say that.
03:00You're right.
03:01They haven't won anything.
03:02But what they have done is captivated that market.
03:05And I'm watching how fans are on a Tuesday night as school is back.
03:09You see all the pictures online of all the friends and people you follow.
03:12All the kids are back in school.
03:13And on a Tuesday night in San Diego, the 72-win Padre team, ready to try to go after
03:19the Dodgers with one month to go.
03:21This team has that area, that region, in a fervor for Padre baseball.
03:27And I say to myself, look, they might not win a World Series, but what they've done
03:31in terms of building a team and drawing excitement, that's how you connect with the consumer.
03:37Jerks for Profar once was a five-tool prospect.
03:40He was like, you know, you think of Jackson Holliday, you think of some of these prospects
03:45who come up.
03:46Jackson Toretto with Milwaukee.
03:48That's who Jerks for Profar was coming up through the Texas Rangers system.
03:52And he just couldn't stay healthy, didn't have a position, and it just didn't work out
03:57for him.
03:58So he makes the all-star game this season, and it's really one of the great stories in
04:02baseball.
04:03And you get this from time to time.
04:04For a guy who was forgotten about for the first five, six, seven years of his career,
04:08and then he resurfaces, and he finds himself in that dugout with those players, and he's
04:14contributing to a winning atmosphere, a winning team, a team that's destined to make the playoffs
04:19again.
04:20Cool story for Jerks for Profar.
04:22Very cool story.
04:23He was on the A's, he's been on the Padres.
04:25He was, I believe, sitting out there in free agency, and anyone could have had him.
04:29And it's...
04:30I think he was with the Padres last year, right?
04:32Yes, he was.
04:33If I'm not mistaken.
04:34He's played second base.
04:35He's played right field.
04:36He's played left field.
04:37He's been all over the place, depending on availability.
04:40How they've pieced their team together with...
04:41They signed Bogarts to be a shortstop, moved him to second.
04:44They've done a lot of odd things.
04:46But the Profar thing, I mean...
04:48But again, when he's not the centerpiece of a lineup, look at how he can impact things.
04:53Yeah, no doubt.
04:54He's legit.
04:55Did you see the crowd?
04:56Oh, I see it every day.
04:57And then I looked at the crowd that the Giants had, and I said to myself, I longed for the
05:01days where, Tuesday nights, there was energy in the building.
05:04Well, you know, Love and I were going at it last week about the Padres, because, well,
05:08they haven't won yet, blah, blah, blah.
05:09And I was like, dude, they got it going on at Petco Park, the Gaslund District.
05:13And the great thing about that yard, and I underrated it, because I thought it was overrated
05:18at first.
05:19It's pretty cool.
05:20But the great thing about it is, Ed and I sat at a hotel a few years ago down in San
05:23Diego, downtown San Diego, and we just rented a scooter.
05:27You could ride the scooter down to Petco Park.
05:31And then you walk there to the outfield, there's the Hall of Fame, there's the Tony
05:34Gwynn statue, there's kids running around.
05:36It's just a really good atmosphere.
05:38And Ed, when you leave the yard, you just pick up a scooter and scoot back up four or
05:43five blocks up the street to the hotel.
05:4575 degrees at, you know, nine o'clock at night is a pretty beautiful setting for baseball.
05:50It is a beautiful setting.
05:51So where do the White Sox fall?
05:54Are they going to be the worst team in baseball?
05:56Now the 1916 Philadelphia A's were 36 and 117.
06:00Would they play 154 that year?
06:02Yeah.
06:03117 plus 30 is 147 plus six.
06:07That's 153.
06:08Yeah.
06:09Because I believe the 62 Mets was the team with 43 wins in the modern era.
06:15The 62 Mets were 40 and 120.
06:1840 and 120.
06:20The Washington Senators, 1904, 38 and 113.
06:24The Boston Braves in 1935, 38 and 115.
06:28So when you think about wins.
06:29I remember that team.
06:301952, the Pirates, 42 and 112.
06:33Wow.
06:3442 and 112.
06:35Wow.
06:36The 2003 Tigers.
06:37I'm a Pirate fan.
06:38You gotta have more hope than that.
06:3903 Tigers.
06:40Give them to me.
06:4143 and 119.
06:42The 03 Tigers?
06:4343 and 119.
06:44Did they get Verlander out of that though?
06:45They may have got some players.
06:46They might have.
06:47They might have.
06:48So that roster.
06:49Give it to me.
06:50Look at that roster.
06:51Hold on.
06:52Let me pull it up.
06:53Was it Ray Ordonez?
06:54That had to be too early.
06:55It's gotta be too early.
06:56Maglio Ordonez, you mean?
06:57Maglio, excuse me.
06:58Well, there's two Ordonez.
06:59One was a shortstop.
07:00One was a right fielder.
07:01One was shortstop for the New York Mets.
07:02Yeah.
07:03I meant the right fielder.
07:04DH.
07:05What is this roster?
07:06Okay.
07:07Give it to me.
07:08Hold on.
07:09Hold on.
07:10Hold on.
07:11Alan Trammell had to be gone.
07:12Because this is weak-y here.
07:13Oh, by the way.
07:140-4-G.
07:150-4-G.
07:160-4-G.
07:170-4-G.
07:180-4-G.
07:19This is weak-y here.
07:20Oh, by the way.
07:210-4-D.
07:22Justin Verlander, number two overall pick.
07:23Number two.
07:24So they had a...
07:25Who had the number one overall pick?
07:26Padres.
07:27Who was it, Sammy?
07:28Matt Bush.
07:29How could I forget?
07:30Matt Bush was the number one overall pick.
07:32Wow.
07:33Hold on.
07:34I gotta go to Tigers baseball and breakfast for this one.
07:35But that's the last time, like, this White Sox team.
07:38Are they gonna win seven games again?
07:40Do they have seven wins on their schedule?
07:43They're heavy underdogs this morning.
07:45Heavy underdogs.
07:46I love how in on this you are.
07:47Huh?
07:48I love how in on this you are.
07:49Well, this is the story.
07:50This is history.
07:51I'm telling you, when the Lions went 0-16...
07:53It was history.
07:54Like, it was the last week of the regular season.
07:56It was.
07:57And it had all these games with playoff implications.
07:58And I had red zone.
08:00And I was stuck on Lions and Packers saying,
08:03they're really gonna go through a season.
08:04And they were close to that game.
08:06You have no idea.
08:07They was driving, and they were, like, into it.
08:09And it may have been Dan Horlowski who threw a pick six.
08:13And the last three minutes of the camera,
08:16panning on the Lions sideline,
08:18as they're on the bench with parkers on,
08:21and looking down at their heads saying,
08:23damn, we're gonna go through a season without winning a game.
08:28A single game.
08:30This has got to be the equivalent if you're a White Sox fan.
08:33You got 30 wins, dog.
08:35Well, I think it's worse than football.
08:36Because, like, in football, there's a lot of guys on the practice squad or whatever
08:40that are getting elevated.
08:42Like, they're fighting for their NFL life.
08:44So you know that there's, like, a level of care.
08:47You know?
08:48Not that these guys don't care for the White Sox.
08:50It's a long season.
08:52It's a long season.
08:54And I can understand being in the outfield.
08:56And you got, what do they have, 30 wins, you said, right now?
08:5830 wins.
08:59And you're out in center field, and you're down 4-1.
09:01And you're just sitting there going, like, for who, for what?
09:04The old Ricky Waters.
09:05I mean, for who, for what?
09:07For who, for what?
09:08So Brandon Inge was on that Tigers team.
09:10He was 26 years old.
09:11Brandon Inge!
09:12Carlos Peña, first baseman.
09:14No way!
09:1518 home runs, 50 RBIs.
09:17Warren Morris.
09:18Ramon Santiago.
09:20Shortstop, remember him?
09:22Eric Budson.
09:23Craig Monroe.
09:24He actually hit 23 home runs.
09:25Craig Monroe wasn't bad.
09:2623 home runs, 70 RBIs that year.
09:28I think he was a Brewer after that.
09:29How about our boy, Demetri Young?
09:31Demetri Young was sweet.
09:32He had great goatee-dye facial hair.
09:35And he got into some stuff in the minor leagues.
09:38He was a hothead.
09:39Him and his brother.
09:40He was a MVP baseball draft guy in the video game.
09:44I would draft late.
09:45Demetri Young, number 21, I believe.
09:4729 homers, 85 RBIs that year for the Detroit Tigers.
09:52That's like a Pedro Feliz year.
09:54Dude, he had a great year.
09:55Shane Halter, Kevin Witt, Omar Infante.
09:58Omar Infante was solid.
10:00Andres Torres is a 25-year-old, played 59 games for that Tigers team.
10:04No way!
10:05Yes, this is great.
10:06He told me he was going to hit a home run.
10:07I guess you guys don't know what I'm talking about.
10:09A.J. Hinch.
10:10A.J. Hinch.
10:11Really?
10:12A.J. Hinch.
10:13Cody Ross was on that team.
10:15No way!
10:16He played six games for the Tigers as a 22-year-old.
10:19A.J. Hinch was 27.
10:21Ernie Young, D.H., played five games.
10:24Now they're pitching staff.
10:27Jerry Bonderman was on his team.
10:28Oh, Bonderman.
10:29He was 6-19 that season.
10:32Adam Bernaro, 1-12, 26 years old.
10:36Gary Knotts, 3-8.
10:37Mike Maroth, 9-21.
10:40Nate Cornejo, 6-17.
10:43Yeah, they won 43 games.
10:46So, the 0-16 Lions, Orvlosky comes to mind.
10:51Who else was on that team?
10:53Was Megatron on that team?
10:55Megatron couldn't have been on that team.
10:57He couldn't have been on that team.
10:58I think they took Stafford the very next year, number one overall.
11:01Megatron couldn't have been on that team.
11:02Was Kitna on that team, or was he still on that team?
11:04Megatron couldn't have been on that team.
11:06He may have been on that team.
11:07Dante Culpepper was.
11:08Oh, Culpepper!
11:09Drew Henson and Drew Stanton, too.
11:11Wow, Drew Henson.
11:13Michigan Wolverine.
11:14Drew Henson was one of those high school...
11:16Yes.
11:17They did have Calvin Johnson, by the way.
11:19They did have Megatron.
11:20Drew Henson, Spadotti, was a guy who was a 3-4 star at high school,
11:24and we would get all these high school magazines.
11:26It was supposed to be like the can't-miss prospect.
11:28Like, this is the guy.
11:30Like, think LeBron James and the Chosen One.
11:32Drew Henson may have not been on that level,
11:35but maybe a tier or two below that in terms of hype.
11:39When he was at Michigan, it was like,
11:40oh, my God, Drew Henson.
11:41Drew Henson couldn't play in front of Brady.
11:43You know what I'm saying?
11:45Then he ended up being a Cowboy.
11:46He was like, eh.
11:47I remember him on the Cowboys.
11:49Cliff Averill also on that Lions team.
11:51Cliff Averill.
11:52Cliff Averill, wow.
11:53Dan Campbell also on that Lions team.
11:54No way!
11:55He was.
11:56Back up tight end.
11:57Back up tight end.
11:58Is that the worst team in most people's minds ever?
11:59I think so.
12:01Not the Bucs of the 80s?
12:02Are we too old for that?
12:03If I say the Tampa Bay Bucs of the 80s,
12:05you guys in the back, you guys are younger.
12:07You have a good 10 years younger than us.
12:09Do you guys even acknowledge that?
12:11No, I think the 0-16 Browns were worse with Hugh Jackson.
12:14They had a parade in Cleveland because of how awful they were.
12:17You guys remember that?
12:18They had a parade?
12:19Yeah.
12:20At 30 season?
12:21Yeah, but no.
12:22I think we sleep on that, Joe.
12:23It is Cleveland, but his stretch is like 1-32 or something,
12:27isn't it?
12:28I don't know.
12:29I mean, the Lions were 2-30 in the two-year stretch.
12:32They were 2-30.
12:33They won two football games in two years.
12:35I contend that for us here,
12:37the Niners being as bad as they were with Tom Sula and Chip Kelly,
12:41though not the equivalent of 0-16 or 1-32,
12:45it's about as down bad as I can remember the 49er fan base at any point ever
12:51because of what that team represents to this region
12:55and because of the symbolism of moving out of the city,
12:58getting rid of hardball, just the whole changing of everything,
13:01Jed and his just Q rating amongst everyone at that given time.
13:06The Niners were down bad.
13:08Bad.
13:09Bad, bad.
13:10So look at this Lions-Packers game.
13:12Just look at the box score.
13:14It was 14-14 going into the fourth quarter.
13:1714-14 going into the fourth quarter.
13:20Packers kick a field goal.
13:22They kick a field goal.
13:24They go up 17-14.
13:26And then all hell broke loose.
13:28Oh, actually, it was 24-21.
13:3024-21 with about seven minutes and 16 seconds left in that football game.
13:35Lions are down three.
13:36Seven minutes left.
13:37And then Aaron Rodgers throws a 71-yard pass to Donald Driver,
13:41and they go up 31-21.
13:43And Orlowski and company lose.
13:45He throws a 225.
13:46Kevin Smith ran for 92.
13:48I mean, that to me, see, I didn't watch a lot of those.
13:52I watched that last game, so I remember them being that bad.
13:54The Browns were huge.
13:55The Jacks were pretty bad.
13:56Horrible.
13:57Pretty bad.
13:58That's easily the worst baseball team we've ever seen with the White Sox.
14:02That's 30-97, folks.
14:04I mean, come on.
14:05What's crazy is we've said this about the A's,
14:07and then you look up middle of the year and the A's got three or four guys.
14:10It's like, man, you know what?
14:12I mean, this next wave of guys.
14:14I mean, they're three years away from arbitration,
14:16but they look pretty good.
14:18Like, I'll give the A's that.
14:19I watched this White Sox team, and I know you like Luis Robert.
14:22He's okay.
14:24That's about it.
14:25Andrew Vaughn, the only reason we know Lee is because of Saroza.
14:28Crochet called it today.
14:29Garrett Crochet.
14:30Yeah, Crochet.
14:31Crochet.
14:32Crochet's not bad.
14:33Crochet's not bad.
14:34Can you name anyone on the 2000-2001 Warriors that went 17-65?
14:39Can I name anyone?
14:40Bobby Serra had to be on one of those teams.
14:42Yep.
14:44Donald Foyle.
14:45Donald Foyle was definitely on one of those teams.
14:46Absolutely.
14:47Was Eric Dampierre on that team?
14:48Absolutely.
14:49Who else was there?
14:5117 wins.
14:53Bobby Serra was there.
14:54Pete Rich wasn't there yet, right?
14:55He came in next year.
14:56And next year, Jamison was.
14:57Edton Jamison was there.
14:59Oh, my God.
15:00I just assumed you were going to go.
15:01Yeah, yeah, yeah.
15:02Edton Jamison was there.
15:03Was that one of the Speedy Claxton years?
15:04No, it was Mookie Blaylock here.
15:06Mookie Blaylock was on that team.
15:07One of my favorite video game players of all time,
15:09Chris Porter from Auburn, baby, with the Afro.
15:12Chris Porter, Auburn, with the dunks.
15:13He would dunk all the time.
15:14Yeah, look at you.
15:15He would dunk all the time.
15:16Yep, Chris Porter was good.
15:17Vinny Del Negro, Bill Curley, Chuckie Brown, Corey Blunt.
15:20What a team.
15:21What a team.
15:23I always liked Vinny Del Negro as a coach.
15:24He always did well with the Bulls, with the Clippers.
15:26I kind of like Vinny Del Negro as a player.
15:28I loved Vinny Del Negro as a player.
15:29He was a winner with the Spurs.
15:31And don't forget, Larry Hughes, baby, St. Louis.
15:34Well, Steini always talks about the walk-up crowd
15:36when they traded for Larry Hughes.
15:37I was there.
15:38Larry's kids.
15:39Yeah, it was one of the biggest walk-up crowds
