00:00Hi, my name is Sam Quine, East Lancashire Reporter for the Lancashire Post and Accrington
00:05is set for an action-packed day as the Soapbob Challenge takes centre stage this Saturday.
00:12Thousands of people will flock to the Lancashire town on the weekend as the free-to-attend
00:17Amazing Accrington event returns to the town. Taking place between 10am and 3pm, 30 competitors
00:25are making the final touches to their carts as they prepare for a fierce contest through
00:31the streets of Accrington Town Centre. One of the competitors is BBC Radio Lancashire
00:39as DJ Graeme Liver, who has competed in the previous two races, will be competing again
00:45this year, racing against colleague Paris Begum, this time for some healthy competition.
00:53So here we are, hello, I'm Graeme Liver from BBC Radio Lancashire as we get ready for another
00:57Soapbox Challenge here in Accrington. I'm down with the team from North Lanx Training
01:02Group here in Accrington who are great supporters of the Soapbox Challenge. I'll be doing it
01:06this year, like I've done for the past couple of years. Parin, who does our travel, is going
01:11to be doing it as well, but you need to know who we're going to be. You'll find out shortly.
01:18Tonight, Matthew, I'm going to be Doc from Back to the Future, and Parin, are you ok?
01:31I've got bricks on my head, I'm alright. Parin has got famous nori brick on her helmet, haven't
01:36you? Yes I have. Move away from the smoke. So we're here at North Lanx Training Group.
01:43So I'm Doc from Back to the Future, and you have the famous Accrington nori brick. Nori
01:48brick on my head, yeah. Of course, the Empire State Building, obviously the Blackpool Tower,
01:54famous brick all around this place. Shall we see what our go-karts, our soapboxes look
02:00like? Yes of course, I'm excited. Let's go in.
02:06These are our two soapboxes for this year. Parin's, now yours looks quite substantial.
02:13Yes, mine's very impressive. I'm very happy with mine. Made of Accrington nori brick.
02:20Mine, mine's made of plastic and a bit of wood. Obviously mine's got a Back to the Future
02:31theme. It is, it's the DeLorean from 1985. Well it looks like the DeLorean from 1985,
02:36but it's a little bit more basic inside. It is, it's a wooden frame with a child's go-kart
02:40and some plastic with stickers on the outside, Graham Franklin. I don't have a steering wheel.
02:45No, well you do. You have the rope there, just like when we were all children and we
02:49made bogies from planks of wood and pram wheels. So I'm sure you'll be fine. Yes, okay. Parin's,
02:57yours is very substantial. Mine's very sturdy. I'm very impressed with mine. It looks even
03:02better than yours, that's for sure. Yeah, yours is better and she's got a proper wheel
03:07and everything. Proper seat, proper steering. And built of Accrington brick. Correct, yeah.
03:12Absolutely fantastic. I think Parin's going to be probably up at the leaderboard I would
03:16say this time, whereas you Graham, as usual, it'll just be good to get you to the bottom
03:20of the cup. Yeah, mine doesn't look quick, I'm telling you. Why is it important for you
03:24to be involved in something like this? Well the Saltbox Challenge, we've been involved
03:28for many years with it and Amazing Accrington of course do a fantastic job, but it gets
03:32everybody out in the town. A fantastic turnout for it. And we love being part of the Accrington
03:38community and giving back where we can and helping out with Amazing Accrington wherever
03:43we can really. So it's a fantastic event and one that the town is really proud of. It's
03:48all happening on Saturday, even if it's a little bit wet, everything will be fine. See
03:53if I actually finish. Parin, you're known for going quite quickly aren't you? Yeah,
03:57so this is cut out for me, literally, probably. I'm going to win this, I'm confident. I don't
04:02know about you, but as long as you get to the end. Yeah, well who knows. But join us
04:07this Saturday in Accrington for the Saltbox Challenge.
