00:00This mother is worried sick about her son, who is suffering from a brain tumour.
00:05They've been waiting in line with other patients in this New Delhi pedestrian subway, hoping
00:11to see a doctor.
00:15The doctor suggested we go home during the strike and promised to call when it ends.
00:20But by the time they call, my son's condition might get worse.
00:26The doctor scheduled the treatment for next month because of the strike but said there's
00:29no guarantee the operation will happen then.
00:31They even suggested we look for care elsewhere.
00:36Cues for treatment are growing in cities across India as doctors enter a second week of strikes
00:41cutting non-essential services.
00:45They're demanding justice after the rape and murder of one of their colleagues during a
00:49shift at a state-run hospital in Kolkata on August 9th.
00:53The case has sparked renewed public anger over violence against women.
00:58A police volunteer has been arrested for the crime and the federal police have taken
01:03over the investigation.
01:05But protesting doctors say the case is not an isolated incident and are demanding greater
01:10protection for healthcare workers against violence.
01:14On Tuesday, India's Supreme Court created a hospital safety task force to recommend
01:19steps to bolster security.
01:22Some doctors though said this doesn't go far enough because it does not address the core
01:26problem of inadequate healthcare funding and staffing.
