Passengers were delayed and flights cancelled at a Japanese airport on Saturday (Aug 17) after a shop near the boarding gates misplaced a pair of scissors.

The security checkpoints at New Chitose Airport in the northern island of Hokkaido were closed for two hours after the lost scissors were reported.

00:17In total, 36 flights were cancelled and 201 were delayed by the mishap, Japanese national broadcaster NHK reported.
00:26The airport resumed flights later on Saturday, even though the scissors were still missing.
00:32The scissors were eventually found at the store by an employee on Sunday.
00:36The disruption to flights came as many passengers were due to return home after Japan's Obon Festival, where many people returned to their family homes across Japan.
