00:00After the arrest of Senate President Cheese Escudero and the Manibela and Pistón groups,
00:05Escudero will talk to the DOTR and LTFRB to allow the unconsolidated Jeeps and UV Express to be registered.
00:14And we will now listen to Transportation Undersecretary Andy Ortega.
00:19Good morning Undersecretary. This is Marice. Let's go live to the first news.
00:24Hi Marice. Good morning. Good morning to all of you. Good morning.
00:28First of all, has Senate President Cheese Escudero talked to the DOTR and will he allow the unconsolidated Jeeps and UV Express to be registered even though there is a deadline?
00:42First of all, I don't know that there was a communication with the DOTR, our good Senator President Escudero.
00:50But regarding the thing that they want to register, just to clarify, the consolidation that was not accepted by the two groups among hundreds,
01:03only two groups did not want to consolidate, which is expiring. The result of not consolidating is that you cannot register because you made a decision not to consolidate.
01:17So I don't see that thing because they made a decision not to consolidate.
01:23Even though Senate President Cheese talked to you?
01:27Definitely, we always talk to each other, as per Secretary Bautista. We are open for any group, any personality to talk because we know that at the end of the day,
01:41I think everybody wants to help what's happening now. So we will respect those kinds of talks.
01:48What is the reaction of the Transportation Department to Senate President Escudero's statement that they will not consolidate their unconsolidated franchise?
01:57First of all, we did not agree to that. That is a consequence of their decision not to consolidate. I think the program and the government are very clear on that.
02:11I guess we just have to respect their decision and they should also accept the consequence of such a decision.
02:20Senate President Escudero also questioned the fact that 83 percent are consolidated.
02:26If that's the case, why are there still affected commuters when the transport strike was carried out? What can you say on this?
02:34If we look at the 83 percent, that's a huge percentage.
02:41If we will look, if they have strikes or protests, if we look at the affected areas and compare it to the entire Philippines, it is a minor, very small percentage.
02:57That's why it really shows that 80 percent is a true number. Maybe there are certain places that are having problems, but definitely it's small compared to the country's area and the number of vehicles.
03:12Exactly. The point of Senate President Escudero is why are there still affected people who are not driving?
03:19Maybe, just to be very fair to the states that are coming out, there are not many as compared to the area. Definitely, we are not ignoring it.
03:30There are certain places. If you are on strike or protesting, there are certain instances that could really affect.
03:37That's where we are improving our balance every time they do such actions.
03:44Because of these developments in the Senate, are there any changes that could happen in the government's plan for the public transport modernization program or it's still ongoing as status quo?
03:59You're right Maris. The program is ongoing. There will be no stopping the program, but we will continue to talk to further improve the program. That's very clear.
04:11All right. Thank you very much Transportation Undersecretary Andy Ortega for your time. Good morning to all of you.
