00:04:06Welcome to a new era of The Voice.
00:04:22Talent like never before
00:04:25and a coveted chance to make it big in the music industry.
00:04:30This is a season like no other
00:04:33and it starts right now.
00:05:03First one.
00:05:17The silence is deafening.
00:05:19It is.
00:05:21It's like nerve-wracking for me.
00:05:24So quiet.
00:05:37All that I have is all that you've given me
00:05:45Did you never worry that I'd come to depend on you?
00:05:51Okay.
00:05:52I gave you all the love I had in me
00:06:00Such a brief moment.
00:06:02And I can't believe it's true
00:06:09You better stay
00:06:12Before you tell me all about
00:06:17You better stay
00:06:20Before you go and break my heart
00:06:31You better stay
00:06:33Baby stay
00:06:39You better stay
00:06:41Before you go and break my heart
00:06:51What?
00:06:52Okay.
00:06:54You, you, you better stay
00:07:16Wow.
00:07:18That's so good.
00:07:20You better stay.
00:07:22You better stay.
00:07:23Yes.
00:07:24Oh, wow.
00:07:25You just, you just like ate that song alive.
00:07:29Thank you so much.
00:07:30It was so good.
00:07:32What's your name?
00:07:33My name is Shannon.
00:07:34I'm a music classroom teacher.
00:07:37And my students are the ones that signed me up to do this on my behalf.
00:07:46I love that.
00:07:47This is for them.
00:07:48I love that.
00:07:49How long have you been singing?
00:07:50Since I was three years old.
00:07:51Yes.
00:07:52Yeah.
00:07:53You can tell that is like in your blood.
00:07:54Like you're not thinking, you're just feeling.
00:07:56Yeah.
00:07:57And when you can couple feeling with technical facility and prowess,
00:08:02that to me is like those are the singers that are legends.
00:08:06Those are the singers that are meant to do this and that will go far.
00:08:09And you will go far in this competition.
00:08:12Thank you so much.
00:08:15I can help you make your dreams come true if you choose Team Adam.
00:08:24Oh, what did I just hear?
00:08:27That was ridiculous.
00:08:29Oh, my gosh.
00:08:32Kind of ironic that you were singing,
00:08:34you better stop because you just stopped the nation with that voice.
00:08:39People would have been like getting up to go to the fridge
00:08:42and then you're like, you better stop.
00:08:45People going to the toilet would have very quickly finished
00:08:49their business just so they could gather around the TV
00:08:53and go, don't move anyone watching at home.
00:08:56That is amazing.
00:08:57And you know what it is?
00:08:59As a coach, it's a voice that is so malleable in the sense
00:09:04that we can go anywhere.
00:09:05We can choose whatever song.
00:09:06We can get creative.
00:09:08I get excited for singers like you.
00:09:10This is why I do the show.
00:09:12I'm so glad that these new coaches have got to experience
00:09:15the level of talent like you so early on as well.
00:09:19I really loved what I heard.
00:09:21You're incredible.
00:09:22I would love you on Team Guy.
00:09:26Wow, that was spectacular.
00:09:29I loved listening to you turning around and seeing how gorgeous you are
00:09:33and how much you owned what you were doing.
00:09:36And you were so in the moment.
00:09:38And I just loved your voice.
00:09:39I mean, you have such a powerful voice,
00:09:41such a range, like you can really kind of take you anywhere.
00:09:45You have something special.
00:09:46You can tell these guys are right.
00:09:48Like your voice can do anything.
00:09:50I would love, love to have you on my team.
00:09:55Be my angel.
00:09:58Your students must worship you.
00:10:02They are so lucky.
00:10:04You've got a four-chair turn here.
00:10:07Guy Sebastian, national icon, you know, absolutely incredible.
00:10:11The Youngest Grammy winner ever.
00:10:15She's an amazing artist.
00:10:17And Adam Lambert, like, absolutely crazy.
00:10:22And the thing is that I think you could be up here, you know,
00:10:26alongside any of them if you make smart choices right now.
00:10:30That smart choice would be to go with Team Kate, 100%.
00:10:34Are you begging over there, Adam?
00:10:48Let me help.
00:10:50You don't need much.
00:10:54I have to say it would be such a treat to work with any of you.
00:10:57You are all super beautiful.
00:11:03In this moment, I am going to go with you.
00:11:10Guy.
00:11:18Oh, my gosh.
00:11:19What a great voice.
00:11:21What a beautiful voice.
00:11:23Oh, gosh.
00:11:26Hey, watch it, watch it.
00:11:29You're falling over on your first turn.
00:11:38Impressive.
00:11:44Hello.
00:11:45Hello, family.
00:11:46How are you?
00:11:47Lovely to meet you all.
00:11:48Good to meet you.
00:11:52I was crying.
00:11:53I was crying, mate.
00:11:54Of course.
00:11:55Of course.
00:11:56Congratulations.
00:11:57Thank you so much.
00:11:58Yeah, that's right.
00:11:59Only briefly, because then we've got to get into the next stage.
00:12:03Thank you so much.
00:12:04Well done.
00:12:05Were you crying?
00:12:06She was crying.
00:12:07She was crying.
00:12:08Of course.
00:12:09Of course.
00:12:10I knew, I knew they were going to alter.
00:12:13I knew they were going to change.
00:12:15I can't believe that.
00:12:17Turns four chairs.
00:12:19There's more than I could have ever imagined.
00:12:21So I'm feeling very grateful right now.
00:12:24Are you satisfied?
00:12:26I'm satisfied.
00:12:30I'm lucky this year.
00:12:32It's a great panel.
00:12:34I think every coach has something different to offer.
00:12:37Kate is incredible.
00:12:39Her vocals are insane.
00:12:43Half a billion people around the world watched Kate perform at Eurovision in 2019.
00:12:51She's one force to be reckoned with.
00:12:57What makes The Voice special is that it's a true celebration of the art of singing.
00:13:05And just how powerful it can be.
00:13:10I know that this show can change people's lives.
00:13:14And I don't take it lightly.
00:13:16Leigh-Anne's known for having a powerhouse voice.
00:13:19She can sing anything.
00:13:22She's won two Grammys.
00:13:25Twelve Billboard Music Awards.
00:13:28Two World Music Awards.
00:13:30There's a lot of awards in the Rhymes household.
00:13:35What attracts me to doing The Voice?
00:13:38Being able to help instill in people the power of singing.
00:13:44Being able to help instill wisdom and confidence.
00:13:49You get to play and create with these artists and see what they're capable of.
00:13:53Simply put, Adam Lambert's a freak.
00:13:56Multi-platinum artist.
00:13:58He's sold over eight million records.
00:14:02Pretty much the whole world tuned in when Adam performed with Queen for the Platinum Jubilee celebration.
00:14:09It was insane.
00:14:11I've always loved the show.
00:14:13In a world that is so wrapped up in the way people look.
00:14:18I think it says a lot about honoring talent.
00:14:22Make it about The Voice first.
00:14:24I think that's really important.
00:14:27The Voice
00:14:37Hi, I'm Elias Lanyon. I'm 20 and I'm from the middle of bloody nowhere.
00:14:42A place called Bort.
00:14:49I live on my family farm and I'm a fourth generation farmer.
00:14:54Being a farmer, it is sort of hard yakka.
00:14:57You've just got to go hammer and tongs as much as you can to make sure it all turns out alright.
00:15:05We have around 1,500 sheep on our property.
00:15:10There's a lot of day-to-day work that goes into looking after them.
00:15:14Making sure they're all fit and healthy so they do become quite a large part of your life.
00:15:25In October 2022, flooding hit our tent.
00:15:32Our neighbouring property got wiped out.
00:15:36I saw my mate, whose farm it is, out in the tent.
00:15:41We carried 90 kilo ewes.
00:15:44We were just grabbing them, two each, through the water with water up to chest height.
00:15:49We saved 175 ewes and then 175 drowned from just not being able to get to them in time.
00:16:00After a long, hard day on the farm, I tend to take the guitar down to the paddock and just relax.
00:16:06I've never had any proper singing lessons or anything before,
00:16:09so I'll just go down to the paddock and play some tunes to the dog
00:16:13and if it's smiling at me then I think I'm doing a good job.
00:16:15Not really sure if I sound any good though.
00:16:20Performing on the voice stage is pretty terrifying.
00:16:24Coming from a small country town, you're not really used to playing in front of that many people,
00:16:28so being in front of this many eyes on the voice will be quite scary.
00:16:49Performing on the voice stage is pretty terrifying.
00:16:54Performing on the voice stage is pretty terrifying.
00:17:18Wow, pretty.
00:17:24Wow, pretty.
00:17:54Wow, pretty.
00:18:24Wow, pretty.
00:18:42Well done, that was incredible.
00:18:44Wow, yeah.
00:18:45Gorgeous.
00:18:46What's your name?
00:18:47My name is Eli Slain.
00:18:49I'm 20 years old and I'm from a little country town in Victoria called Bort.
00:18:53Bort, cool.
00:18:55Wow, I just love that grit, that crunchiness you have in your voice.
00:19:01Sexy.
00:19:02It's emotionally underpinned with this real authenticity,
00:19:06like I felt that you were really inside of that song.
00:19:09It was artistic, it was musical, you're a great singer
00:19:13and I would absolutely love to have you on my team.
00:19:16I think you belong on Team Kate.
00:19:18Thank you so much.
00:19:21Yeah, you had some stunning, stunning moments in that song.
00:19:25How long have you been singing?
00:19:27Because I feel like there might be some newness here.
00:19:29Yeah, well I've been singing since I was about 15 years old.
00:19:33Okay.
00:19:34Just like really small country town gig.
00:19:36Okay, yeah.
00:19:37Yeah, so this is a really big deal for you.
00:19:39Yeah, pretty huge.
00:19:40Yeah.
00:19:41Yeah.
00:19:44Good for you.
00:19:45Were you nervous?
00:19:46Yeah.
00:19:47Yeah.
00:19:48Yeah.
00:19:49You can tell that, but it was so beautiful to see,
00:19:52like it was so innocent, like that moved me.
00:19:55So yeah, you were amazing and especially for your first kind of big thing,
00:19:59that's amazing.
00:20:00Congratulations.
00:20:01Thank you so much.
00:20:02Yeah.
00:20:03Yeah.
00:20:06Elias, what does a normal day look like for you?
00:20:08Like what do you do for a living, all of that sort of stuff?
00:20:11So I live on a sheep and cereal farm with my parents.
00:20:15Hi.
00:20:16Hi.
00:20:17Hello.
00:20:18Hello, parents.
00:20:19Oh, they're so cute.
00:20:20Every day working on the farm with the old man, so.
00:20:23Oh, awesome.
00:20:25Was it them that encouraged you to do the show?
00:20:27Yeah, and sort of the community of our town as well sort of
00:20:31wanted to get behind me a bit, so.
00:20:33Oh.
00:20:34Yeah.
00:20:35Are you guys musical?
00:20:37No.
00:20:38Not at all?
00:20:39No.
00:20:40No.
00:20:41We love Kate.
00:20:42You love Kate?
00:20:43Oh.
00:20:44Oh.
00:20:46Oh, no.
00:20:47That's never a good sign.
00:20:49Never a good sign.
00:20:50Yeah.
00:20:51It's good for Guy to be humbled every now and again.
00:20:53Oh, yes.
00:20:54Oh, yes.
00:20:56That little edge of almost desperation to your voice and that
00:21:00little grittiness, that's why I turned.
00:21:03I think you've got something that is unique and what cuts you,
00:21:06you know, it sort of takes you away from all the perfect singers
00:21:10because you've got grit.
00:21:11Yeah.
00:21:12And that's really cool.
00:21:13Thanks so much.
00:21:14Yeah.
00:21:15I would love you on team, Guy.
00:21:17I have to say, you know, the thing that blew my mind just now
00:21:20about learning about you is how young you are and your voice is
00:21:23so mature.
00:21:24It's really cool that it sounds so lived in and weathered and
00:21:28sort of, you know, has an experience to it.
00:21:31And to find out that you're 20, you said 20?
00:21:33Yeah.
00:21:34That's wild.
00:21:35You know, I can't imagine how it's going to just grow and
00:21:37mature as you get older.
00:21:39You have a fantastic sound.
00:21:41It's very commercial.
00:21:42It sounds like the radio.
00:21:43It's very cool.
00:21:44Thank you so much.
00:21:45Some bravo for you.
00:21:47But you have a big decision to make now.
00:21:50Are you ready to make this decision?
00:21:52Oh, I don't know.
00:21:54A bit tricky.
00:21:55You've got three coaches here that are gunning for you.
00:21:57Yeah.
00:21:58What's it going to be?
00:21:59I think I'm going to have to go with Kate.
00:22:18Thank you so much.
00:22:26You won't regret it.
00:22:29We're going to have a great time.
00:22:31You're going to have to meet your mum and dad.
00:22:38So sweet.
00:22:39Really exciting.
00:22:40Thanks so much.
00:22:42Look, it's 20 with that voice.
00:22:44Yeah.
00:22:45That's so, like, rich.
00:22:46Congratulations.
00:22:47You guys must be so proud.
00:22:49That was just so brilliant.
00:22:51Great to meet you.
00:22:53Lovely to meet you.
00:22:56Oh, lovely to meet you.
00:22:58I can't wait to keep going on this journey with you.
00:23:00It's going to be really fun.
00:23:03Bye, guys.
00:23:04Bye.
00:23:05Thanks so much.
00:23:06Great job, mate.
00:23:07Well done, Kate.
00:23:14First one.
00:23:15My first.
00:23:16That's a first.
00:23:17Good first.
00:23:18Popped my cherry.
00:23:19Yes.
00:23:20Yeah.
00:23:21I'm just being, I'm really picky.
00:23:24That's a positive way of looking at it.
00:23:26Yes.
00:23:27I like that.
00:23:28You know, got to keep things positive.
00:23:30Not feeling like a loser just yet.
00:23:32No, no, no.
00:23:33It's early days.
00:23:34Ultimately, the best woman won, and I can't wait to work more with Elias.
00:23:40I think he's a really exciting talent.
00:23:42One of the great things about this show is it really is solely about the voice.
00:23:48That's the beauty of music.
00:23:50Anyone could do it.
00:23:52I think a great voice can have you within two or three words.
00:23:57You just know.
00:23:59That's what keeps me coming back, because I've still got faith that there is amazing talent to find out there.
00:24:10I was put on this earth to sing.
00:24:12Music is everything.
00:24:15Music is a part of my soul.
00:24:20Music is my life.
00:24:22It's all I do.
00:24:26I've always dreamed of being a full-time musician.
00:24:29That's why I'm here.
00:24:32This is my one shot.
00:24:34I can't mess this up.
00:24:37Music's always been a part of me, and I just want this so bad.
00:24:43I never really imagined myself being on stage quite as big as this.
00:24:47I'm so nervous.
00:24:48Everything's shaking.
00:24:50This is very much now or never.
00:25:01There's no question that Australia has great talent, but this is just mind-blowing.
00:25:05I've just completely lost my shit over here.
00:25:07It's really exciting to help these singers understand they're amazing.
00:25:12Some of them have never been told that, and some of them don't truly believe that yet.
00:25:17That was freakishly good.
00:25:19You're a bolt of electricity.
00:25:22The best part about my job as a coach on The Voice is getting to help somebody get closer to their dream.
00:25:28I see a major rock star in front of me.
00:25:31I've done this show for six seasons now.
00:25:33Hands down, this is the best talent we've ever seen on the show.
00:25:48This is The Voice!
00:26:00It's a scary thought to perform on The Voice stage.
00:26:03I've never sang in public before.
00:26:06Everyone's there just to hear you sing.
00:26:09That is something that is terrifying to me.
00:26:13I'm James Vass. I'm 20 years old, and I'm from Melbourne, Victoria.
00:26:19There was a turning point in high school where I saw people singing, and I was like,
00:26:22this is something I love to do, but I always felt like I didn't have that courage to go up on stage and sing.
00:26:28So I secretly emailed a singing teacher at my school, asking if I could start singing lessons.
00:26:36I kept singing a secret for years, because I was embarrassed.
00:26:40I kept singing a secret for years, because I was embarrassed, to be honest.
00:26:43And I wasn't confident in the fact that someone like me could be a singer.
00:26:47But music is something that I love, and singing is something I love, and I shouldn't be ashamed of that.
00:26:51I hope that you turn a chair, because you deserve this so much.
00:26:55My twin sister was floored when she first heard me sing.
00:26:58It was crazy. I don't think she realised that I actually had that in me.
00:27:02And I want every single person in that room to hear your voice, because you're just incredible.
00:27:07You're incredible.
00:27:08She would always encourage me to apply for The Voice.
00:27:10Every time there was an application, she would always be messaging me, being like,
00:27:13you've got to apply, things like that.
00:27:15She's very supportive in that way, so I'm really glad and grateful to have someone like that by my side.
00:27:20So let's see your chair turn. Let's see it.
00:27:26For the coaches to turn their chair, it's a huge challenge.
00:27:31So many things are going through my mind.
00:27:34Will I be on key? Will I finish the vibrato?
00:27:40Will I not scream?
00:27:42There's a lot of things that could go wrong.
00:27:46I am just so nervous.
00:27:53Let's go, Jo!
00:27:54You've got this, mate!
00:27:56We love you. You've got it.
00:28:03You've got this.
00:28:17There it is.
00:28:26Oh, wow.
00:28:33Oh, mate.
00:28:58Come on, Jo!
00:29:04Come on, Jo!
00:29:06You've got this.
00:29:07I
00:29:31Don't think you could
00:29:37I
00:29:55That was impressive, thank you so much. What's your name? I'm James. I'm 20 years old and I'm from Melbourne
00:30:03Wow
00:30:06James tell me a little bit about yourself. I mean, where did that voice come from? Have you always had it?
00:30:11Yeah, well, not really
00:30:13Um, I kind of kept singing a secret for a while until I was in high school when I was 15
00:30:18I realized that I have a voice and I really wanted to use it
00:30:22But I really kept it a secret for a lot of my life
00:30:24If how would you sing singing in secret like a lot of you singing into a pillow or something?
00:30:28No, I was very embarrassed to like sing
00:30:31I felt like it wasn't something that I could do like properly. Hey James. Yeah, can I let you know a secret?
00:30:38You can sing really well
00:30:42Thank you
00:30:43I'm glad you let the cat out of the bag because that was really really good
00:30:48Thank you as a coach like you you have everything that is needed
00:30:53You had me in the palm of your hand that is like a perfect voice for me
00:30:57And so don't doubt yourself you're meant to sing and I think someone like you would be great for my team
00:31:07You're brand new at this basically, which is incredible like to tackle an Adele song like that's that's a challenge, right?
00:31:13And you did it really well and you did it with such confidence. I
00:31:18Think there's this whole other piece of you that is yet to be discovered, you know, we all
00:31:24Go through our own fears like just because we've been doing this forever
00:31:27we're not exempt from it at all and I would love to help you really learn how to hold that fear and to also
00:31:36Recognize your greatness like even further to see how great you are because you're really beautiful your beautiful soul
00:31:42Thank you an incredible voice
00:31:44I would love to work with you. I'd love to have you on team Leanne
00:31:51What I particularly enjoyed I love it when you when you sing quietly, it's
00:31:56It's got such an interesting
00:31:59Rich velvety tone. I love your vibrato and then obviously yeah, you have the capacity to like nail it and belt it out
00:32:06But when you bring it in to me that sounded really distinctive and different to any voice that I've heard before
00:32:13You've got an amazing talent. I think there are so many just simple small things. I'd love to work with you on
00:32:20to help you
00:32:21truly feel that sense of confidence and that sense of
00:32:25Owning the stage the minute you walk on I'd just love to explore that with you
00:32:34The fear thing is major and once you do overcome it
00:32:38It's like the sky's the limit and I feel like coming here was a huge step for you
00:32:42I actually feel like you're very ready. You're very poised. Thank you so much. I know I didn't turn my chair
00:32:48I'm looking for something kind of specific. So
00:32:51There's like certain boxes. I'm trying to check but I think you're gonna do really well
00:33:00James there's three coaches that obviously want you on their team. I agree with Adam you are ready. So start believing
00:33:09Including with this decision believe in yourself. Oh my gosh. Oh, wow
00:33:20I was not expecting this result. Actually, you guys are all amazing
00:33:26This is this is a dream but um
00:33:31Growing up with this person for like most of my life, so I think I'm gonna go with guy
00:33:39The
00:33:48Secret it's not a secret anymore
00:33:56Mainly what artist you listen to I'm a big sucker for Adele Sam Smith. He's special. Yeah
00:34:03The sweet soul yeah, he's really got like a
00:34:06a quality that's like really special.
00:34:08Yeah, yeah.
00:34:09It would sound great on record, I think.
00:34:10It's a natural singer.
00:34:11Just a real natural singer.
00:34:13Good luck with your shows.
00:34:15Oh my God.
00:34:17That was crazy.
00:34:19Crazy.
00:34:19It's like we were dreaming.
00:34:21I was like, I can't do this.
00:34:22I can't choose.
00:34:24And I was glad that I was...
00:34:25No, I love Adam, but I was like,
00:34:27at least there's less to choose from
00:34:28because I can't choose.
00:34:30They were all so amazing.
00:34:31So encouraging and they loved you.
00:34:32Oh my God.
00:34:33You were a superstar.
00:34:36Well done.
00:34:37I'm so proud of you.
00:34:43It was good pitching.
00:34:43I mean, you guys did well.
00:34:45It was good.
00:34:45It was strong.
00:34:47We don't need your feedback.
00:34:50Yeah, would you like to coach us?
00:34:52What is that?
00:34:54Is this for a loser?
00:34:55Yeah.
00:34:56Loser?
00:34:57Loser.
00:34:58Thanks.
00:34:59It's all right.
00:35:02Here you go.
00:35:03It's...
00:35:03Hilarious, isn't it?
00:35:04It's for Lambert.
00:35:06That was for Lambert.
00:35:07Yes.
00:35:08That was for Leanne.
00:35:09That was for Lambert.
00:35:11But keep going, you know,
00:35:12you guys will get some people in your team eventually.
00:35:14It's...
00:35:15I'm here all day if you need anything.
00:35:21Coming up.
00:35:22I have never stood on a stage like this before.
00:35:25The blind auditions continue.
00:35:27I need you.
00:35:28As our coaches battle to build their teams.
00:35:32I had goosebumps from the moment you opened your mouth.
00:35:34And...
00:35:34I want to...
00:35:36A big shake-up that allows our coaches to lay down the law
00:35:40like never before.
00:35:43The ultimate block.
00:35:45Are you serious?
00:35:46Yeah, I've had it.
00:35:47Come on.
00:36:03I'm Lana.
00:36:04I'm 32 years old and I'm from Sydney.
00:36:09I am a receptionist and client liaison manager
00:36:13at my uncle's skim clinic.
00:36:17And look, it's great.
00:36:19I do it to pay the bills.
00:36:21I love who I work with.
00:36:24But at the end of the day, it's not what makes my heart...
00:36:28happy.
00:36:29Happy.
00:36:31And I'm always constantly wondering...
00:36:34when am I going to get out of here?
00:36:36My heart's in music.
00:36:43I've been hustling in the industry
00:36:46for about 10 years or so.
00:36:48I've sung backing vocals for Dua Lipa,
00:36:50Rita Ora, Kylie Minogue.
00:36:55You kind of get a name for yourself.
00:36:57As in, this is the girl that does backing vocals.
00:37:00But what I really want to be doing is singing to stadiums,
00:37:04huge, solid crowds.
00:37:09Become my own artist.
00:37:12When is it going to be my turn?
00:37:21It would be so validating if I were to turn a chair.
00:37:25I will know that I'm on the right path to becoming a solo artist.
00:37:29That all this time, all this perseverance...
00:37:33it's not for nothing.
00:37:38But...
00:37:40standing on that stage in front centre instead of in the background,
00:37:44I'm nervous.
00:37:51It's been tough doing what I do for this long.
00:37:55If I don't turn a chair...
00:37:57I don't think I will sing again.
00:38:00I am petrified.
00:38:11Cheer squad.
00:38:12What's that?
00:38:13Full-on cheering squad over there.
00:38:17That's a good reaction.
00:38:18Yeah.
00:38:25Tell me, tell me
00:38:27It's hard just to play around
00:38:30You think you're the real deal, honey
00:38:33Someone who's always looking for you
00:38:37Wake up, baby
00:38:39It's a totally new day
00:38:42You'll end up all alone
00:38:45If you don't get a bullet in your head
00:38:49Wow, really good.
00:38:50If you don't have good luck
00:38:53You're looking in a new way
00:38:56So you're lifeless, honey
00:38:59When you're hurting your head
00:39:03You told me you saw me
00:39:05You told me that we were in love
00:39:08I hope you really love me now
00:39:11Now you always have a serious smile
00:39:15No more lies
00:39:19No more lies
00:39:22No more lies
00:39:24When you're hurting your head
00:39:27Wow, really good
00:39:30You're looking in a new way
00:39:34So you're lifeless, honey
00:39:37When you're hurting your head
00:39:41You told me you saw me
00:39:43You told me that we were in love
00:39:46So you're lifeless, honey
00:39:49So you're lifeless
00:40:02Wow. Wow.
00:40:06Hi.
00:40:10What's your name?
00:40:11My name's Lana.
00:40:12Hi, Lana. How are you?
00:40:13I'm good.
00:40:14That was so cool.
00:40:16That was like...
00:40:17That was...
00:40:18The minute you opened your mouth,
00:40:19I was like, okay, okay.
00:40:21What's she gonna do?
00:40:23Where are you from?
00:40:24What's the deal?
00:40:25How long have you been singing?
00:40:26I'm from Sydney.
00:40:27I've been singing, God,
00:40:29since I was like...
00:40:30Yeah, huh?
00:40:31Yeah.
00:40:32I do a lot of backing vocal stuff.
00:40:34I've been like
00:40:35working in the industry
00:40:36for about 10 years.
00:40:37Cool.
00:40:38What kind of style
00:40:39do you usually sing?
00:40:40Like, do you...
00:40:41What's your like lane?
00:40:42I love old school soul, jazz.
00:40:45Yeah.
00:40:46I'm an old school girl.
00:40:47Yeah.
00:40:48We call it like stank face vocals.
00:40:49Stank face.
00:40:50That's what you gave me.
00:40:51I was behind there going like,
00:40:52mm.
00:40:53Yes, yes.
00:40:54It's the same.
00:40:55Stank face.
00:40:56You know what I'm talking about, right?
00:40:57Same.
00:40:58I was doing the same thing.
00:40:59When something's so funky
00:41:00and so deep that you're like,
00:41:01ooh, yeah, mm.
00:41:02Oh my God.
00:41:03You gave me the stank face
00:41:04like within seconds.
00:41:05So you got it.
00:41:06That was a very cool choice.
00:41:08I would love to work with you.
00:41:14Lana.
00:41:15That had everything.
00:41:16Your voice is powerful.
00:41:18It's a bit...
00:41:19At times, it's a bit Amy Winehouse
00:41:21and then it goes to kind of Tina Turner.
00:41:24No, her voice is Lana.
00:41:26Her voice is Lana.
00:41:27Yes.
00:41:29Thanks, Adam.
00:41:31But you can pull out
00:41:32a lot of different things,
00:41:33which I love.
00:41:34I can tell that you're seasoned.
00:41:35I can tell that you've done this.
00:41:36You're confident.
00:41:37If you're on Team Guy,
00:41:38I would just say,
00:41:39keep doing that.
00:41:40Let's not be intimidated
00:41:41by anyone or anything.
00:41:42Let's go as out there as we can
00:41:45and accentuate all the best bits
00:41:47about Lana.
00:41:48You're amazing.
00:41:51Thank you so much.
00:41:52Hi, Lana.
00:41:53Hello.
00:41:55Your spirit is infectious.
00:41:57Your playfulness.
00:41:58I love how flirty you are.
00:42:00You sold me that song.
00:42:02You exuded sex.
00:42:03As soon as I turned around,
00:42:04I was like, oh, hey.
00:42:05You just pulled up your skirt.
00:42:06Hey, girl.
00:42:07Hey, hey, hey.
00:42:08I mean, it just was like,
00:42:10I was just blown away.
00:42:11I just love your confidence
00:42:12and the artistry is there.
00:42:14It's now just like kind of
00:42:15honing in on that
00:42:16and like expanding it.
00:42:18I think it would be a blast
00:42:19to work with you, so.
00:42:20Team Leigh-Anne, for sure.
00:42:22Can I ask one more thing?
00:42:23Sorry.
00:42:25What do you want
00:42:26out of this experience?
00:42:27What's the next step?
00:42:28I have always wanted to be here.
00:42:32Front, centre stage.
00:42:33But I guess I've never
00:42:35really had the confidence
00:42:37to just do it.
00:42:38And I just, I've been working
00:42:40at it for 10 years
00:42:41and it's just like,
00:42:42for me it's like now or never.
00:42:44I'm ready to go.
00:42:46Awesome.
00:42:49It's amazing how that confidence
00:42:52does come with age,
00:42:54particularly as a woman, I think.
00:42:55Like you really come into yourself
00:42:57at a certain point in your late 20s
00:42:59or even later sometimes.
00:43:01And suddenly you don't give a shit
00:43:03what anyone else thinks anymore.
00:43:05And you're ready to step
00:43:06into your power.
00:43:07We all heard that.
00:43:09I would love to work with you,
00:43:11particularly on Song Choice.
00:43:13Be so curious to see
00:43:15where your tendrils could reach to
00:43:18because you've got
00:43:19bucket loads of talent.
00:43:20And yeah, you could go anywhere.
00:43:25I wanted to say too that
00:43:27in my experience,
00:43:29having competed on a show like this
00:43:31and having helped an artist
00:43:33on a show like this in the past,
00:43:34I think one of the key things
00:43:36is the element of surprise.
00:43:38You want your time on the show
00:43:40to show people all the little angles
00:43:42and facets of your talent.
00:43:44And so you do one thing one week
00:43:45and then you surprise them
00:43:46the next week.
00:43:47There is a strategy
00:43:48to winning this game.
00:43:50And I know how I can get you there.
00:43:54That's fighting words.
00:43:55Trust in me.
00:43:57Adam's gone in for a double pitch.
00:43:59Kate Miller-Heidke's
00:44:00used the word tendrils.
00:44:03I mean, I feel like
00:44:04we all want you a lot.
00:44:06We all want you on our team.
00:44:08Who is it going to be?
00:44:09Who is it going to be?
00:44:14I think Team Kate.
00:44:15You need a woman.
00:44:17It's a really tough choice
00:44:20because I love and respect you all.
00:44:24I'm on my knees.
00:44:26Come on.
00:44:28Come on.
00:44:32I am going with...
00:44:40Team Adam.
00:44:47So nice to meet you.
00:44:48We're going to have fun.
00:44:49We're going to have a lot of fun,
00:44:50I swear.
00:44:51I promise.
00:44:52You look amazing.
00:44:53You look amazing.
00:44:54We're going to share clothes too,
00:44:55I think.
00:44:58Shoes.
00:45:01She's so cute.
00:45:08Love you.
00:45:09Hey, family.
00:45:10How are you?
00:45:12How are you?
00:45:13Hey, dad.
00:45:14How are you?
00:45:15Give me a hug.
00:45:16You guys must be so proud.
00:45:17She killed it.
00:45:18She killed it.
00:45:19We're so proud of you.
00:45:20We're going to do this together.
00:45:22I believe in you.
00:45:23I think this is going to be great.
00:45:25Yay, yay, yay.
00:45:26So excited.
00:45:27So excited.
00:45:28Bye, guys.
00:45:31See you soon.
00:45:32See you soon.
00:45:33Yay.
00:45:34Yes, yes, yes, yes.
00:45:35We won.
00:45:36You didn't win.
00:45:37Yes.
00:45:40Well done.
00:45:43Well done.
00:45:45The learner's permit got me riled up.
00:45:47I was like, I've got to fight harder.
00:45:49You can throw your learner's permit away.
00:45:51Oh, she's going to be fun.
00:45:53She's so yours.
00:45:54And she's like ready.
00:45:55She's very yours.
00:45:56She seems very shy and reserved.
00:45:58Yeah.
00:45:59Very.
00:46:00Just like you.
00:46:01Very shy and reserved.
00:46:02That's me.
00:46:03I'm a tender flower.
00:46:04You are.
00:46:05So tender.
00:46:10This season on The Voice.
00:46:13I thought we were friends.
00:46:15The Block is back.
00:46:19With The Block, I can stop one of my fellow coaches
00:46:21from getting the artist that I really want.
00:46:23I never knew you were such a great liar guy.
00:46:26Just when you think that you've convinced an artist
00:46:28to pick you as their coach,
00:46:30there comes The Block button.
00:46:32She was clearly very threatened by me.
00:46:34And this time, it's bigger than ever.
00:46:40There is a new Block this year,
00:46:42The Ultimate Block.
00:46:45Which means I get to block any other coach
00:46:47who's in the running for that artist.
00:46:49Oh, halibut.
00:46:51The Ultimate Block shows them
00:46:53I will stop at nothing to have them on my team.
00:46:56I hope you realise how much I want you.
00:47:02Oh, do the Ultimate Block dance.
00:47:04Ultimate Block dance.
00:47:07Okay, that did not deserve applause.
00:47:20This is The Voice.
00:47:33Hi, Lillian.
00:47:34Hi.
00:47:35Do you guys have a lot of people coming up to you?
00:47:37What is it like for you having, like, mega fans
00:47:39and running into them?
00:47:40It's weird for me because, I mean,
00:47:41I've been around for so long now
00:47:44that it's like people feel like they've grown up with me.
00:47:47Or, like, I'm a part of their family.
00:47:48Well, they have, yeah.
00:47:49They actually have.
00:47:50Yeah, they really have.
00:47:51Do you get, like, stopped at the airport and stuff?
00:47:53Oh, yeah, all the time.
00:47:54As long as it's not 5am, I'm good.
00:47:56Right.
00:47:575am, I'm like, okay.
00:47:58No, no, no, no.
00:48:06Rianne Rimes.
00:48:07Wow.
00:48:08An international star.
00:48:09She's made such an impact on the industry.
00:48:11I'd love for her to turn a seat.
00:48:12She's someone I've looked up to for a very long time.
00:48:14I'm absolutely so excited to sing in front of her.
00:48:18She's had an incredibly long career.
00:48:22She started doing this when she was 9 years old.
00:48:26Rianne has so much experience.
00:48:28I mean, she recorded her first album when she was 11,
00:48:31released when she was 13,
00:48:33won a Grammy youngest ever at 14.
00:48:38She's sold over 48 million records.
00:48:40Rianne's the highest-ranked female
00:48:42on The Greatest Showman.
00:48:45And that's higher than The Beatles.
00:48:46Higher than Elvis.
00:48:47Higher than Queen.
00:48:48And even higher than Beyonce.
00:48:53I love finding young, fresh talent.
00:48:56I've been building all this wisdom
00:48:58for the last three decades,
00:48:59so I feel like there's a big world to draw from.
00:49:02I can't wait to help them just come out of their shell
00:49:05and, like, fully into their power.
00:49:08Singing was always something that I've wanted to do,
00:49:11but having a family early meant that I had to grow up
00:49:14a little bit faster than most people my age.
00:49:21I became a dad.
00:49:23I'm still a dad.
00:49:24I'm still at the age where I'm not really concerned
00:49:26about my kids.
00:49:27I just really want to become a father.
00:49:29I don't want to be a mother.
00:49:30I just want to be a dad.
00:49:32I just want to be a dad.
00:49:34I don't want to be a mother.
00:49:36I became a dad just before my 18th birthday.
00:49:40We just had my daughter and then a month later
00:49:43we were going for round two.
00:49:4511 months apart.
00:49:49Nothing can really prepare you for becoming a dad so young,
00:49:53but as soon as I saw my daughter's face,
00:49:56I wouldn't have it any other way.
00:49:59After I put my babies to bed,
00:50:01I get ready to go to my job at a pig packing company.
00:50:07It's definitely not a glamorous job,
00:50:09but I do it to provide for my family.
00:50:12The best part about working night shift is that
00:50:14I can put my ear pods in and sing pretty much
00:50:17for my whole shift and the chillers are nice and loud
00:50:20so no one can hear me.
00:50:24The song I'm singing is How Do I Live by Leanne Rimes.
00:50:29I grew up listening to Leanne in the background
00:50:32pretty much my whole childhood
00:50:34because my mum absolutely loved her.
00:50:37Yeah, definitely mixed emotions
00:50:39about singing Leanne's song to her.
00:50:43I'm hoping that nerves don't affect my performance.
00:50:48I've been told my whole life that I have an amazing voice
00:50:50and vocals come quite easily to me.
00:50:54So I can impress her.
00:50:57Memories
00:51:05Cute.
00:51:06Are you going to laugh?
00:51:07Oh no.
00:51:08It's a cry photo, so a laugh.
00:51:15How do I
00:51:18Get through a night without you
00:51:23If I had to live without you
00:51:26What kind of life would that be, oh my I need you in my arms, need you to hold
00:51:37You're my world, my heart, my soul If you ever leave
00:51:45Baby, you would take away everything good in my life
00:51:53And tell me now, how do I live without you?
00:52:01I want to know, how do I breathe without you?
00:52:08If you ever go, how do I ever, ever survive?
00:52:18How do I, how do I, how do I live?
00:52:24Tell me baby, how do I ever, ever survive?
00:52:38How do I live?
00:52:47Wow!
00:52:53Hi Milo
00:52:54Hi
00:52:55What's your name?
00:52:56My name is Manawa, I'm 19, I'm living in Victoria but I'm originally from New Zealand
00:53:03That was really beautiful, do not get discouraged that we did not turn around
00:53:08That is so hard, to sing a coach's song, were you really nervous?
00:53:14Yes
00:53:15Yeah, I could tell and you have a beautiful voice, you can definitely tell you can sing
00:53:20I think for me it was the nervous energy, nervous energy can do crazy things to your voice
00:53:25Do you have a lot of experience singing?
00:53:28Yeah, I've been singing since I was real young but not in places like this you know
00:53:35Yeah
00:53:36And in front of people like you guys
00:53:38Yeah, I mean I get nervous singing in front of these guys, it's hard
00:53:42But when you get really nervous your airways seize up, you stop breathing
00:53:46The breath is the first thing that goes
00:53:48And that's the enemy of a good vocal quality
00:53:52And the trick is harnessing those nerves to give you the energy for the performance
00:53:59You actually need the nerves I think and it just means that you're excited and that you care
00:54:04Yeah
00:54:06Thank you
00:54:08I actually, do you mind if I get up and actually sing with you?
00:54:11Yeah
00:54:12Yeah, of course
00:54:14I think maybe if I get up here with you, we would have a completely different outcome of this song
00:54:20I'm up here for support now, you don't have to be nervous anymore
00:54:22I mean actually that might make you even more nervous but let's just like go with it, okay?
00:54:26Here we go
00:54:30Can't tell me now
00:54:34How do I live without you?
00:54:38I want to know
00:54:41How do I live without you?
00:54:45If you ever go away
00:54:48How do I ever
00:54:51How do I
00:54:56How do I
00:54:58How do I live without you?
00:55:09How do I
00:55:12How do I live
00:55:28Can you promise me that you'll come back?
00:55:31Because
00:55:33I honestly think that you're special
00:55:35But I feel like you just weren't quite ready but I know you will be
00:55:39You have that potential, absolutely
00:55:41Yeah
00:55:43Thank you
00:55:44Thank you to your beautiful family
00:55:46Yes
00:55:51Oh my heart
00:55:54My heart just feels for him
00:55:55Yeah
00:55:56Because I know, we all know there's something there
00:55:59Yes
00:56:00There definitely is
00:56:01It's probably the most palpable nerves we've seen
00:56:02And we all know what that feels like
00:56:04Oh my god, yeah
00:56:05It's the worst feeling
00:56:06Yeah
00:56:07Just drink
00:56:08Yeah
00:56:10Out of the water fountain
00:56:28Turn up the temperature, turn up the radio
00:56:31Morning folks, it's a beautiful day on the way
00:56:3428 degrees, we've got light northwest winds
00:56:36Around about one metre of swell
00:56:38For the swimmers, conditions are fantastic
00:56:40Water temperature around 22 degrees
00:56:42Got a high tide at 320 this afternoon
00:56:44This is Tez McKenna
00:56:46Reporting for The Voice
00:56:55I've been lucky enough to be a triple M surf reporter for the last 35 years

00:57:05Around Newcastle, I'll go into a fish and chip shop

00:57:41I think so, I'm hoping to sort of rattle their knives and forks off the plates
00:57:47Do you think Poppy's going to turn a child today?
00:57:49Yes!
00:57:50See?
00:57:51What?
00:57:55I really want this
00:57:56I want to prove to people who are my age
00:57:59That age should not be a barrier
00:58:02And also want to teach the kids how to rock as well
00:58:22Okay
00:58:28We love you Poppy!
00:58:30Aww, that's so cute
00:58:32Cute

00:58:58Last night my little angel
00:59:01She came popping on my Flow
00:59:05You won't feel good, you won't last, it's for love
00:59:10And love, it expires, hey, how'd drama go?
00:59:14Because, in the midnight hour, she cried more, more, more
00:59:21In the river, yeah, she cried more, more, more
00:59:27She don't like sleeping, she won't sit and pray
00:59:33And when I'm tired and lonely, well, she leads me to pray
00:59:37Well, once set you free, I brought you to me, baby
00:59:44Cause once set you free, I brought you here, love, I made
00:59:49Because, in the midnight hour, she cried more, more, more
00:59:56In the river, yeah, she cried more, more, more
01:00:02In the midnight hour, more, more, more
01:00:07In the river, yeah, she cried more, more, more
01:00:12More, more, more
01:00:15Thank you!
01:00:21Thank you
01:00:27What's your name?
01:00:28Thank you, yeah, my name's Tez McKenna
01:00:31I'm 60-something years of age

01:00:42I love it!
01:00:44You know, there's such a, like, a rock revival happening right now
01:00:47And, like, you just, like, gave me, like, the 80s fantasy that I always wanted
01:00:51Like, it was just so legit, that
01:00:54And I, it felt very authentically that
01:00:57And I, I, I'm very excited about it
01:00:59I think that's fun
01:01:00Thank you
01:01:01Yeah, I really appreciate it
01:01:02Thank you
01:01:03I, um, I mean, I loved the energy of that
01:01:07You can feel it in the room
01:01:08It's impossible not to love that
01:01:12For me, personally, the reason I didn't turn
01:01:14It's not exactly what I'm looking for on my team
01:01:17For my personal tastes
01:01:18But thank you, that was so much fun
01:01:20Thank you very much
01:01:23I heard a little love you, Poppy, was that right?
01:01:25Just before you started singing
01:01:26Yeah, Poppy Tez, which is, uh, really cool
01:01:28I got my granddaughters over there and my family, so
01:01:30Aww
01:01:31Hi
01:01:32Hey, Dylan
01:01:33Yes
01:01:34Oh my gosh, they're so adorable
01:01:36You guys don't realise, you know, not everyone's grandad
01:01:40Looks and sounds like that
01:01:42Yeah
01:01:43That's pretty cool
01:01:44It's very special
01:01:45Um, you're awesome, dude
01:01:47Thank you
01:01:48Thanks, guys
01:01:52So, do you love Billy Idol?
01:01:54Is that like a, is that a thing of yours?
01:01:56Absolutely, I've been a huge fan since Billy was in Generation X
01:02:00So I used to have a school band
01:02:02And we used to call ourselves GX
01:02:04Which was a tribute to Billy
01:02:06And then when, uh, I guess in 2020
01:02:09When everything sort of came to a bit of a halt
01:02:11I saw the guitar in the corner and I thought
01:02:13You know what? Let's give this another shot
01:02:15You're never too old to dream
01:02:16That's amazing
01:02:18Thanks, everyone
01:02:19I love that
01:02:20You're so joyful
01:02:21I'm totally glad that you're with Adam
01:02:23I think you guys are gonna really mesh really well together
01:02:25Yeah, so am I
01:02:26You're so fun
01:02:27I appreciate you
01:02:28Yeah, very much
01:02:29Appreciate it, thank you
01:02:30Yeah

01:02:35My daughter is over there
01:02:37She's got a texter
01:02:39Is there any way you could sign her arm for her?
01:02:41Or something like that?
01:02:42Of course
01:02:43Of course
01:02:46You're getting a tattoo

01:03:17Missy!
01:03:19Wow!
01:03:20She's actually got a really nice signature
01:03:23I couldn't help it
01:03:24I was like, yeah!
01:03:27Had a lot of sugar backstage
01:03:28Wanted more, more, more
01:03:32I had more in me
01:03:34I'm gonna get, I'll be better next time
01:03:36Hey, I feel great
01:03:37You were great
01:03:38I was so good
01:03:39You did the best you could
01:03:41I love you guys
01:03:47Good night
01:03:48Good night
01:03:51My name's Reuben DeMello
01:03:53And I'm 31 years old
01:03:55I'm from Perth
01:03:56I work FIFO, work on the mines
01:04:02FIFO work is tough
01:04:05It's isolating
01:04:06It's far away from home
01:04:12Can be quite tedious
01:04:15Working on the mines helps me pay the bills
01:04:18But at the same time
01:04:22Keeps me from seeing the family
01:04:31I'm a proud family man
01:04:36My family is definitely 100% my greatest achievement
01:04:42There are moments where I do get caught up in the rut of mining life
01:04:45But I'm always grounded by a great wife
01:04:48And my two boys
01:04:53Their love and laughter
01:04:54Always brings me back to why I do what I do
01:04:58My family is the reason I live
01:05:03Mum used to sing
01:05:04And my dad played the guitar
01:05:07The little boys love to sing
01:05:08They love the Wiggles
01:05:10And Olivia, my wife, she also sings
01:05:14So music's around
01:05:15It definitely is
01:05:16But it's the first time I've done something like this
01:05:22At The Blinds I'll be singing
01:05:24Icy Fire by Ed Sheeran
01:05:27I've got a fear of forgetting lyrics
01:05:29So when the nerves kick in
01:05:32If anything go wrong it'll be lyrically
01:05:37I don't want to be working on the mines forever
01:05:39I'd like to be present for the growth of my kids
01:05:44This could allow me to make music my full-time job
01:05:50I want it pretty bad
01:05:51I want this pretty bad
01:06:13Hi Daddy
01:06:44Plus an all-inclusive recording development package
01:06:47Including songwriting, production, recording, mixing and mastering
01:06:51And a music masterclass thanks to Studio 301
01:07:05Hi Dad
01:07:08I love it when you give babies
01:07:13I love it
01:07:24Oh my God
01:07:33Wow
01:07:43Oh my God
01:07:53Wow
01:07:57Are you going in?
01:08:14Thank you!
01:08:15Fortune!
01:08:22Oh, thanks
01:08:43Oh my God
01:08:48Yes!
01:08:49Yes!
01:08:50Fortune!
01:08:52Yeah
01:08:57Yes
01:09:03Wow
01:09:04That was really good
01:09:06That was incredible
01:09:08I even have goosebumps
01:09:10Oh my God, everywhere
01:09:11The moment you opened your mouth
01:09:12There's goosebumps on my arm
01:09:13Thank you
01:09:14What's your name?
01:09:16My name's Ruben DeMello
01:09:17I'm 31 years old
01:09:18I'm from Perth, WA
01:09:23And I'm a FIFO worker by day
01:09:26And a dad to two beautiful boys
01:09:28And a husband to a lovely wife
01:09:30Oh my goodness
01:09:33You just sang that better than Ed Sheeran
01:09:37No, nothing
01:09:39Thank you, that's huge
01:09:41That was amazing
01:09:42You're a true artist
01:09:44The way that you stood there
01:09:46And told us that story
01:09:49With no bells and whistles
01:09:51We saw a window into your soul
01:09:54You're a natural singer
01:09:56I honestly think you could win this competition
01:10:04I mean, I don't want to have to start begging
01:10:06But I need you
01:10:07Please join Team Kate
01:10:09Leap on for the ride
01:10:11You won't regret it
01:10:12Thank you
01:10:14Man, you are so clipped in
01:10:16You opened your mouth
01:10:17The first note, first phrase
01:10:19Was just like
01:10:21It sounded like a record
01:10:22It was so otherworldly
01:10:24And polished
01:10:26And amazing musical choices
01:10:29And very sophisticated approach to it
01:10:33I feel like you're a diamond in the rough
01:10:36You're a star
01:10:37That voice needs to be heard
01:10:39100%
01:10:42Ruben, I just love you, man
01:10:44I turned around very soon
01:10:46Because I knew I was listening to something special
01:10:49So you're a fly-in, fly-out worker in WA
01:10:52What exactly do you do for work?
01:10:55I work as a rigger
01:10:57So I'm basically working with cranes
01:10:59And as a fixed plan operator for Rio
01:11:03In all seriousness
01:11:04I think your gift is way too special
01:11:07To not be your number one focus
01:11:10It's so special
01:11:16There's singers who sing to impress
01:11:18And there's singers who sing to move
01:11:21And you're definitely in the latter category
01:11:24Of like, it's so honest, it's so raw
01:11:27It's just Ruben
01:11:28And my gosh, that's one of my favourite auditions
