00:00I am Leif Caulfield. I'm a music producer and artist from Glasgow.
00:07I would say synth-pop because people always describe their music as something more elaborate and specific than it is.
00:16It's synth-pop, man. People go like, hmm, it's cinematic, new age rock or something like that.
00:23What you are is an indie rock band. So I'm a synth-pop artist. It's a long way of saying I'm a synth-pop artist.
00:31My influences go outside of Glasgow. The Glasgow music scene is a funny one because a lot of people are friends.
00:40Most of my friends in the music industry in Glasgow are hip-hop artists and people in the hip-hop scene.
00:47The indie rock scene is also massive, but there seems like there's more of a connection of people in the hip-hop scene.
00:56So the indie rock sound is the most populated, I would say, in Glasgow, but I wouldn't say I'm affected by it.
01:06So I think my influences went outwards. The Weeknd was a big influence. Take On Me was an absolute belter, everybody knows that.
01:20People like Dua Lipa, but then Kanye, Jamie XX and Bon Iver, all massive influences.
01:31So, yeah, that was a long-winded answer, but I hope you are okay with that.
01:36Okay, so how does it feel to be in Edinburgh playing at this event that supports artists entering their career and is the fringe as well?
01:49It's brilliant. I mean, so, St James' Quarter, obviously a new kind of multi-storey place, a shopping centre.
02:00I didn't actually know what to expect. I didn't know if I'm going to just catch shoppers that are going to be like, eurgh, or if it would actually draw a crowd.
02:09And the crowd formed and I was like, and they stayed. I was like, rejoice. This is a celebratory time.
02:18And then, aye, so I think it's brilliant that they're putting on upcoming artists. You can never have enough things for upcoming artists, especially in a place like St James' Centre.
02:29I would say in the graduate scene, there are a few great venues to play. King Tut's is one of them. We did a show there, we did a headline show last year.
02:38And then there's a few other venues. St Luke's is brilliant. So there are a few key venues. Nice and Sleazy's, Broadcast, those are key for people that are coming up.
02:46And they are brilliant venues. King Tut's was amazing. It's like an iconic venue, man, King Tut's, you know what I'm saying?
