00:00A PKR MP has urged the government and the Human Resources Ministry not to overlook the

00:08welfare of the informal workers and those on low-wage contracts following the pay hike

00:13for civil servants.

00:15While he welcomed the wage increase for government employees, Pasir Gudang MP Hasan Karim said

00:21there are non-civil servants such as cleaners, security guards and gardeners working in schools,

00:26hospitals and government clinics on contracts.

00:30In a Facebook post today, he said informal workers who are spread across the country

00:34are often exploited by their employers and contractors and need government intervention

00:39to protect their welfare.

00:41Hasan said they face several challenges, including low pay ladders, long working hours and a

00:47lack of EPF and SOXO contributions, adding that they also suffer from job insecurity

00:52and are often denied a minimum wage.

00:56Yesterday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that a salary increase of between 7% and 15%

01:02will come into effect from December 1st under the new public service remuneration system.

01:08Civil servants in top management will receive a 7% wage hike, while those categorized as

01:13implementers, managers and professionals will see a 15% pay increase.
