00:00Academic Teo Kok Siong, a senior fellow with the National Council of Professors, has called
00:08for a dedicated curriculum to teach the Rukun Negara so that its principles take firm root
00:13in Malaysian society.
00:15He said mere recitation of the official declaration of the nation's philosophy would not be
00:19sufficient to foster a true understanding of its principles.
00:23Teo said, a curriculum and syllabus should be introduced during primary school and kindergarten
00:28involving the memorization, understanding, and application of the five principles.
00:33Meanwhile, Tajuddin Razdi of UCSI University called for the Rukun Negara to be integrated
00:39into religious education, including in madrasah curricula and Islamic studies in public schools.
00:45He said that the principles must be explained within the Islamic value system, as terms
00:49such as progressive and liberal are viewed negatively by conservative Muslims.
00:54On Monday, National Unity Minister Arun Agodagang said his ministry was working to ensure the
00:59full recitation of the Rukun Negara in state legislative assemblies nationwide, following
01:04its successful inclusion as part of the agenda for each opening session of the Dewan Rakyat.
