00:00Former Health Minister Khairi Jamaluddin has criticized the ongoing debate over whether

00:08university technology MARA should open admissions to non-Bhumiputras.

00:13Khairi said the debate had grown from a short-term exemption request to meet the need for specialists,

00:18to talks about opening the university to non-Bhumiputras in general, and whether it must be referred

00:23to the Council of Rulers because it is related to Article 153 of the federal constitution.

00:29We didn't even discuss the issue of opening UITM to non-Bhumiputras.

00:34This is an issue for us to solve the current trainees who will not be registered as experts

00:43because of the issue of parallel pathways.

00:45You have to be serious people.

00:48Don't be the stupid people mentioned by the PM earlier.

00:53The issue is that we want to ensure that they can be registered.

00:59Previously, the Malaysian Medical Association had called for UITM to prioritize public health

01:04by temporarily opening its cardiothoracic surgery program to non-Bhumiputras amid a

01:09shortage of specialists.

01:11In response, UITM's student council launched a protest but subsequently apologized for

01:16causing a misunderstanding.

01:18Khairi also urged the government to address the issue quickly.

01:21The Minister of Health, the Minister of Higher Education, must settle this issue.

01:26And also the Chairperson of the Ministry of Health.

01:29The Minister of Health is the president of the Malaysian Medical Association who raised

01:34this issue by saying that he does not recognize it.
