00:00U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris says her administration, should she be elected, will
00:06cut taxes, lower the cost of groceries, housing and other essentials for many Americans.
00:13As president, I will take on the high costs that matter most to most Americans, like the
00:21cost of food. A loaf of bread costs 50% more today than it did before the pandemic.
00:29Speaking in the battleground state of North Carolina, Harris was making her first major
00:33economy-focused speech as a Democratic presidential nominee.
00:39She announced a sweeping set of proposals, including plans to introduce a federal ban
00:44on price-gouging on food and groceries, to lower prescription drug costs and build more
00:50affordable housing. Other pledges include a new child tax credit and lower taxes for
00:57families with children. In her speech, she took on her rival, the Republican presidential
01:03nominee Donald Trump.
01:05He wants to impose what is in effect a national sales tax on everyday products and basic necessities
01:16that we import from other countries. A Trump tax on gas, a Trump tax on food, a Trump tax
01:25on clothing.
01:26The U.S. vice president is seeking to blunt Donald Trump's attacks on her. He responded
01:32to her speech by posting online that Kamala will implement Soviet-style price controls.
01:38He gave a speech on Thursday, during which he displayed popular grocery store items meant
01:43to represent the high cost of food.
