00:00It was a long day of campaigning, albeit unofficially at the moment.
00:05Kamala Harris had an event this morning at the White House where she spoke briefly about
00:10the legacy that Joe Biden will leave behind before then heading into Delaware to meet
00:14with the staff for her campaign, formerly the Biden-Harris campaign.
00:19But they are now switching gears.
00:21There were also some bittersweet moments there when Joe Biden gave some words to the staff
00:27who were working at that election and urged them to embrace Kamala Harris and said that
00:33ultimately he's not going anywhere, that the top of the ticket may be changing, but the
00:38mission is still the same and that he will be behind Kamala Harris and also will be campaigning
00:43for her as well.
00:44So a bit of a handing of the baton there from Joe Biden to Kamala Harris before she then
00:49headed back to the White House.
00:52But she didn't go back without taking a swipe at Donald Trump, particularly pointed Barb
00:57and then also laid out her future manifesto for what she will bring to a presidency if
01:03indeed she is elected in November.
01:06But to get there, she needs to be the nominee and that will happen within the course of
01:10the next couple of weeks before August 7th.
01:13We are told it will happen as the delegates who were once pledged to Joe Biden will now
01:17have to go elsewhere.
01:18Kamala Harris' team has been working the phones to try to lock down those delegates
01:22and it was announced very late on Monday evening that she believes she does now have the vote.
01:28So therefore, she will be the apparent nominee.
01:32She said, when I announced my campaign for president, I said I intended to go out and
01:36earn this nomination.
01:37Tonight, I'm proud to have secured the broad support needed to become our party's nominee.
01:42And as a daughter of California, I'm proud that my home state's delegation helped push
01:46our campaign over the top.
01:47I look forward to formally accepting the nomination soon.
01:51That will happen then sometime at the beginning of August before we move on to the convention
01:56in mid-August.
01:57That nomination happening beforehand, however, because of a quirk of state law in Ohio.
02:04So there will be a bit of a party atmosphere, I think, once we get to Chicago in mid-August.
