00:00After touching down in Chicago, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris will be crowned by
00:05delegates for the Democrats at the party's convention in the city.
00:10It gets underway with President Joe Biden reduced to a warmer pact after his shock withdrawal
00:15from the White House race.
00:17So, I certainly love Joe. I think he's been a fantastic president. I believe that he has
00:23not gotten the full credit for the accomplishments he's done in office, but I also certainly
00:28understand the feeling that we now have with a new generation stepping forward.
00:33I'm excited to be here. I think all the delegates, it was known that Harris' walls ticket was
00:39unanimous. We voted for her early. We voted for them. We're excited to see what they're
00:44going to bring.
00:46The first female, black and South Asian Vice President of the United States has breathed
00:50new life into the Democratic Party after the trauma of Biden's decision not to run for
00:55re-election. She has wiped out Donald Trump's lead in opinion polls and for the moment
01:01has the momentum.
01:02That Vice President Harris was able to get so many endorsements from so many people so
01:06fast indicated there's no room for debate. She's going to be the candidate, the party's
01:10coming together, positive Democratic message, fighting back Donald Trump and whatever disagreements
01:15there are, and they're real and important disagreements, can wait for another day.
01:19The attention will focus too on her running mate.
01:22Tim Walz will play an important role in the convention in showing America that the Democratic
01:26Party represents a whole lot of people. Not just people from San Francisco, not just lawyers
01:32like Vice President Harris is, but people who are high school teachers and football
01:36coaches who come from the middle of the country, who look like they do, who talk like they
01:40do.
01:41Thousands of activists outside the venue are expected to make their voices heard on issues
01:46from abortion rights to the war in Gaza.
01:49The party will be hoping the Harris-Walz ticket convinces undecided voters ahead of next month's
01:54Harris-Trump TV debate.
