Transcript
00:00Leptospirosis cases that surfaced in the last torrential rains and flooding brought about
00:05by Super Typhoon Karina in tandem with the southwest monsoon won't be that high or
00:10many.
00:11So vowed the country's health czar in the Malacanang Insider Program, in which he vowed
00:16greater cooperation with local governments over a much tighter handle on solid waste
00:22disposal and management.
00:24Trash bins and containers or garbage piled up on the streets are the domain of rodents
00:29which flourish in such a filthy environment that spill and spread to infect humans while
00:35flash floods strike.
00:37In addition, the Department of Health or DOH and the Department of Education or DepEd are
00:42hooking up for an awareness program to be disseminated in schools to pound into students'
00:48heads the perils and risks of illness stemming from rat disease infection or leptospirosis.
00:55Latest DOH records show leptospirosis cases reached 523 from which 45 infections eventually
01:02went or proved fatal.
01:04Even more, DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa said more and more hospitals are much better equipped
01:11and prepped in the event leptospirosis cases are admitted for treatment.
