00:00Up to 30 to 40 patients are being checked up in a hospital in Iloilo due to symptoms of dengue.
00:08In Mountain Province, students are being asked to avoid wearing a skirt as a uniform.
00:13Zhen Kilantang-Sasa of GMA Regional TV witnessed this.
00:21Women students in Mountain Province are wearing jogging pants first.
00:25Under Executive Order 33 of the Provincial Government, wearing a skirt as a part of uniform is suspended in schools and offices to avoid dengue.
00:36According to the Department of Health, from January to August 3, more than 130,000 cases of dengue have been reported in the country.
00:44In Western Visayas, more than 10,000 cases have been reported this year, more than double compared to the same period last year.
00:53Iloilo has the highest number of cases.
00:57In Iloilo Provincial Hospital, up to 30 to 40 patients are being checked up due to symptoms of dengue.
01:05As of now, 28 have been admitted to the hospital.
01:08It's manageable. We can't afford to have more patients.
01:11In case if ever patients need blood transfusion, we have adequate blood supply.
01:18According to Health Secretary Ted Herbosa, waterborne illnesses are common whenever it rains,
01:24such as diarrhea, influenza or measles, leptospirosis, and dengue.
01:29Dengue actually is self-limiting.
01:32We're able to diagnose dengue quicker.
01:34We have the NS1. It's a rapid test just like the phobic test.
01:38So we're able to tell if the child has dengue or not.
01:42In the case of leptospirosis, it's important to control the population of the patients.
01:47That's why it's important to teach children to avoid swimming in the flood.
01:51I'll be going to Secretary Angara and start to talk to him about a convergence of health education or health literacy.
01:59It's very important to educate kids not to swim in flood water.
02:03I think that should be in the curriculum of our elementary.
