00:00But let's start off with some updated news from the men's team at the soccer pitch.
00:08It is a new head coach slash manager, however you want to say it, Mauricio Pochettino is
00:15the new manager slash coach of the U.S. men's team, and he will lead them into the World
00:24Cup in 2026.
00:26Chelsea was the team that he used to coach, and he has left that club by mutual consent
00:31earlier this summer after just one season in charge.
00:35He used to coach over at Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain.
00:40He will succeed Greg Bertholter as the U.S. men's coach following lengthy discussions.
00:47Apparently, there are some issues with his contract with Chelsea that will have to be
00:50resolved before he takes them over, but they will, and we will see him on the sideline
00:55for the U.S. men's team moving forward.
00:58We will not see Matt Judon on the sideline of the New England Patriots anytime soon,
01:03probably never again.
01:05The New England Patriots have traded Judon to the Atlanta Falcons, where they're hoping
01:10to get a new contract extension done for him, a great defensive player for many years in
01:15New England, but as they undergo this rebuild, seems like it does make some sense.
01:19Meanwhile, J.J. McCarthy is out for the season.
01:24He underwent surgery yesterday, and his season in 2024 is done for the Minnesota Vikings.
01:31Sam Darnold will at least be the starting quarterback to start the season.
01:35They also have Jaron Hall and Nick Mullins, but to say the least, when you make a first-round
01:40pick your quarterback, you're expected to see him play, and unfortunately, as Kevin
01:45O'Connell says, after the surgery, he is out for the year.
01:50I did want to provide an update on J.J. McCarthy.
01:54He did undergo surgery actually this morning on that meniscus.
01:59It was led by our team doctor, Dr. Chris Larson at TCO.
02:03It was a successful procedure, but it did reveal that a repair was necessary, which
02:11will end J.J.'s 2024 season.
02:14I'm as crushed as I am for our team and the excitement that we had in our building, and
02:22our fan base felt the same way, especially after seeing him perform really well the other
02:27day at US Bank Stadium.
02:29I'm the most crushed for J.J., but as our fans either have already come to find out
02:37or will in the future, this guy is so motivated and so dialed in.
02:42As excited as I was to draft him, he's confirmed everything that I hope to see, not only early
02:49on through training camp, through his performance last Saturday, but our fan base and everyone
02:56should just be excited about the fact that we've got our young franchise quarterback,
03:01I believe, in the building.
03:04Not with a building, but not on the field, and I think that's the story for McCarthy
03:07this year.
03:08Again, you draft a first-round quarterback, you don't get to see him play.
03:11Colts had to go through that last year with Anthony Richardson, but at least we saw some
03:14of Richardson last season.
03:15Meanwhile, as I mentioned, the WNBA is back.
03:18Let's go over some of the matchups tonight.
03:20Three games tonight in the WNBA.
03:22Phoenix is at Chicago, their three-point favorites, Washington taking on Minnesota.
03:26The Lynx, eight-point favorites, and the best team in the WNBA as of right now, it's New
03:30York Liberty.
03:31They are 11-point favorites on the road out west against the Los Angeles Sparks.
03:36In the National Football League tonight, we have a game in the NFL preseason, and none
03:40tomorrow.
03:41Very bizarre schedule.
03:42The Patriots will take on the Eagles.
03:44New England is favored by two-and-a-half-point favorites.
03:47No word on which Eagles starters will end up playing in this game this evening.
03:51A trade in the NFC East, you don't see this that often.
03:55The Giants have traded defensive tackle Jordan Phillips to the Dallas Cowboys, they'll get
03:59a seventh-round pick in return, and also the Cowboys signed pass rusher Carl Lawson as
04:06well.
04:07Meanwhile, the Rams are not going to see Matthew Stafford in the NFL preseason.
04:10This week, he experienced some hamstring tightness.
04:15He didn't finish the joint practice against the Dallas Cowboys.
04:18Jimmy Garoppolo, Stetson Bennett took over more of the snaps this week and probably will
04:22see the majority of them when they play this upcoming weekend.
04:27Also, as far as the Vikings are concerned, back to them here for a minute, they're also
04:31without Jordan Addison, their great second-year wide receiver.
04:34He had an ankle injury on Wednesday against the Cleveland Browns in their joint practice.
04:40He suffered the injury after jumping, after making a contested catch during drills, he
04:45was taken off the field in a cart.
04:48The good news is he's not expected to be out long.
04:50The bad news is another player you probably won't see play in the NFL preseason this week.
04:55Meanwhile, former quarterback at the University of Miami, Tyler Van Dyke, he transferred to
05:00Wisconsin in the offseason.
05:02And according to their offensive coordinator, Phil Longo, he is the starting quarterback
05:07going into the season this year.
05:08He was competing with Braden Locke, who started three games for them last season.
05:12Van Dyke is the starting quarterback at Wisconsin.
05:15Also number 11 ranked Missouri, their top defensive end, Daris Smith, is going to miss
05:19the season after hurting his knee in practice.
05:21He was a transfer from Georgia, 16 games over his last couple of seasons.
05:26Also a scare in the NFL as Mark Andrews, the tight end of the Baltimore Ravens, was involved
05:32in a car accident.
05:33Two vehicles had heavy damage, but apparently Andrews is okay.
05:38In a statement, he said he appreciates everybody's thoughts, but he should be ready to go whenever
05:42the Ravens decide to play their real players in the NFL preseason.
05:45All right, hottest team right now, one of the hottest, the very least, in the NL Central,
05:49Cincinnati Reds.
05:50They're playing great baseball.
05:51They win again.
05:52They sweep the Cardinals.
05:53And guess what?
05:54The Reds are doing exactly what they did last year, jumping back into the playoff race again.
05:58Final score, 9-2 yesterday.
06:01How about this one?
06:02TJ Friedel of the Cincinnati Reds.
06:04He turned 29 years old yesterday.
06:06He had two home runs in the win, and he talked about spending time with his family and then
06:12going out and hitting two bombs.
06:13I think so.
06:14I was telling Andy, I don't remember the previous birthdays or what I did, but I know this one
06:20I'll remember for my life.
06:21So just, you know, having my family out here with me here today, you know, celebrating
06:25with them this morning.
06:26And yeah, and then coming to the field and doing that, like, you know, stuff you dream
06:30of as a kid.
06:31So it was awesome.
06:32Anything can happen in baseball.
06:33Simple as that.
06:34I mean, we've seen it.
06:35You know, the guys who were here last year, right?
06:37But then the guys who we brought in, Nick Martinez, Candy, a lot of these guys who have
06:41postseason experience, but have also are veterans and have played many MLB seasons like they've
06:46seen it.
06:47And we know from last year, it came down to the last game.
06:49We had highs and lows, ups and downs last season, just like every team has.
06:53But it's the willingness to not give up and to continue to come out every single day and
06:58perform to the best of your abilities as a team and as a group together.
07:01And then at the end of the season, you look up, see where you're at.
07:04Sixth spot in the National League.
07:07The Reds, the Giants, the Braves, the Cardinals.
07:10Several teams going to be fighting for that, maybe down to the last game of the season.
07:14Dodgers finally took a loss yesterday.
07:16They've been red hot.
07:17They lost to the Brewers.
07:18Final score, five to four.
07:19Walker Bueller did pitch three and a third.
07:21One-earned run, but walked four, struck out three in the NL West.
07:24The Diamondbacks have been the hottest team in baseball since the All-Star break.
07:28Two and a half games back in the Dodgers.
07:30Same thing with the Padres.
07:31They've been great as well.
07:32And also Aaron Judge.
07:33A 300th home run yesterday, fastest to ever do that as the Yankees beat the White Sox.
07:38Final score, 10 to two as the Yankees get a win against Chicago.
07:41Meanwhile, what is DraftKings doing?
07:43By accident yesterday, they sent an email that suggested that players had placed a golf
07:48bet.
07:49They said that it was by accident.
07:50You may have received an email regarding this past weekend's golf tournament.
07:54And we inadvertently did that.
07:56Sent more broadly than intended.
07:58Got to clean it up, DraftKings.
07:59St. Jude Championship underway right now.
08:02We'll give you a scoreboard update on that coming up soon.
08:05Also, Killian Mbappe scores his first goal for Real Madrid.
08:08Two to nothing win yesterday as they defend their title.
