00:00I always love talking to coach Terry Bowden on Fridays.
00:05You got to check out the Bowden Blitz on SportsGrid.
00:08It's badass and you can follow it at the Bowden Blitz, a legendary career, a legendary family
00:16and a badass on coast to coast.
00:18Coach, I want to start with what you and I were just talking about.
00:20So you know, when Bear Bryant was there in Tuscaloosa, and then when Nick Saban was in
00:28Tuscaloosa, they had it.
00:30They had it.
00:31I mean, like the it thing that we're talking about.
00:34And then they had seven coaches that didn't have it.
00:37And then I don't have anything bad to say about DeBoer.
00:41I just know that that football team doesn't have it.
00:44No, and you're exactly right.
00:47That's a unique place.
00:48And having coached at three universities in Alabama and having coached against the Crimson
00:54Tide, I have a great feel for it.
00:57It's hard to be the head coach in Alabama because they can sense it.
01:01It's a unique personality and the players and the team are a part of that team.
01:07And so Bear Bryant, then seven coaches, then Nick Saban.
01:11And I've said before that DeBoer was a really good choice.
01:14I just want to see how you would react to it.
01:17And right now, I don't think they can go into LSU and beat LSU at night.
01:21I just don't think, see that Alabama team doing that.
01:25I mean, this guy Kelly, his best work has been under the lights at Death Valley and
01:33not during the sunshine.
01:34In the daytime, they've been beatable.
01:36At nighttime, they've been unbeatable.
01:39I tell you, I've coached there in the nighttime a lot.
01:42It's almost impossible to win.
01:44The crowd gets bigger.
01:46They get louder.
01:47It's a tough place.
01:48I think they've been drinking all day, but they are hard to beat.
01:52I've been there with Florida State.
01:54I've been there with Auburn.
01:55And I'm telling you, it's the most unique place you've ever seen.
01:58They say Texas A&M too, and I've coached there as well, is about the same.
02:03But I don't think at night, there's any stadium tougher to beat.
02:06And I don't think Alabama is going to win this one at LSU this week.
02:09Listen, I've been to both.
02:12And I will give you that Kyle Field is unique, and it's the 12th man and all the rest, and
02:19they got a big crowd and a lot of people there.
02:22But it cannot, I'm sorry, it cannot hold a candle to Death Valley.
02:27Let's stop here.
02:28I mean, I'm not at Kyle Field.
02:31I got seven or eight stadiums better than that.
02:33I'll be here all day.
02:34I'm here all the week.
02:36I'll tell you better places to play football.
02:38And you know it.
02:40You know it.
02:41Well, you know, like I say, I live in Louisiana now.
02:45I've coached at ULM.
02:47I've been here and I coached against them.
02:51And I have coached at so many places.
02:53I have been to Michigan.
02:54I've been to Southern California, to Alabama, to Georgia.
02:59It's a unique experience there.
03:01I do have to think it's something to do with the personality of the Cajuns and the way
03:06they react at night.
03:09It's an incredible experience.
03:11And I don't think Alabama, I think, I mean, Alabama is a good football team.
03:13I don't think they're as good as LSU right now.
03:16If LSU can get rid of throwing, if they can run the football just a little bit, I think
03:20they win the game.
03:21All right.
03:22Let's talk about Miami and Georgia Tech.
03:25Now listen, this game reminds me of the Duke game.
03:28I don't think, you know, Duke was 6-2.
03:30They're better than Georgia Tech.
03:31Georgia Tech's been very average this year.
03:34They've had their problems.
03:35And I know everyone thinks they're going to beat Miami, but Duke went up on Miami and
03:39then they got their ass spanked.
03:42Now I think this team may throw a 10-minute punch, but I still don't think they can stop
03:47this freight train.
03:48No, I mean, I mean, I mean, you're talking about Cam Ward is the number one quarterback
03:52in the country, stat-wise.
03:54They have the number one offense in the country.
03:56And I think a team like Georgia Tech, whose quarterback is injured, who may not play,
04:02their day is over.
04:03They started the season with a win over Florida State, but they have not progressed throughout
04:07the season.
04:08And a team that likely don't have their quarterback in Miami is smelling that playoff.
04:13They're smelling that championship.
04:15And I think the more this thing goes in the season, the better Miami gets.
04:19Were you surprised that the AD said that Billy Napier was coming back to Gainesville?
04:26And I think they're going to get beat in Austin at Memorial by the Longhorns.
04:31But do you think they're making the right choice in bringing him back?
04:34Because the bottom line is he's been there and all he does is lose.
04:38You know, it's funny.
04:39He was with me at Auburn.
04:40He was, he was the assistant AD when I was at Auburn, and I'm not so sure he makes the
04:44final decision.
04:45I just, I've been around this business too long and ADs don't make that final call.
04:51They're told what to do.
04:53Now you want to say, we're with you, do the best that you can, but I'm not so sure he's
04:59going to make the final call at Florida.
05:01So let's just wait and see, because there's a lot of things and a lot of factors that
05:05come involved.
05:06Texas beat them easily?
05:09Texas is going to, the only thing with Texas this year is a matter of how much they're
05:13going to win against them.
05:14I think Texas is going to win the game.
05:17It's just, can you go with 21 points?
05:19I'll be honest with you.
05:20They've got a walk-on quarterback playing at quarterback for Florida, and I think Texas
05:24gets the 21.
05:25I think they, they, they take the spread and they go with it.
05:27Yeah.
05:28I do too.
05:29Once they lost their quarterback Langway, they're in trouble.
05:31Georgia at Ole Miss.
05:33I think Georgia is the most dangerous team in that 12 team field.
05:37They can beat anybody.
05:38Well, you got it.
05:39Georgia is, I mean, I mean, they're really something, Ole Miss and Georgia.
05:43It's a, it's going to be a great game.
05:45I still wonder about Ole Miss when they play the better team.
05:48Georgia continues to play better and better.
05:51But their quarterback, Carson Beck has thrown interceptions.
05:55He's not been the quarterback that he was last year.
05:58He has got to keep turning the ball over.
06:00I know he's heard about it all week, but I think he will solve that problem.
06:04I don't think you'll see him throwing interceptions like he did three of them last week.
06:08And if he doesn't throw interceptions, I don't think Georgia, anybody can beat Georgia.
06:12So I was watching the Indiana game last week, as you know, my alma mater, and I always went
06:17there for basketball.
06:18I worked for Bob Knight.
06:19I never once went to a football game in five years.
06:22Now all of a sudden they're good.
06:24I mean, they mean business offensively, 47 plus a week defensively, top five in the country
06:31at everything, stopping a run, giving up yards, giving up points.
06:35So they took a punch from Michigan State and then beat the living snot out of them in East
06:40Lansing.
06:41And I don't even think Michigan's very much better than Michigan State.
06:44What happens in Bloomington tomorrow?
06:46But you know what?
06:47I don't question who's going to win this game.
06:50I question where Kurt Cignetti is going to be next year or the year after.
06:54Oh, God.
06:55Oh, God.
06:56Who would have thought Michigan would be going into Indiana and an underdog after winning
07:03the national championship.
07:05And so I know Kurt Cignetti, I've known him all my life.
07:08And I'm thinking this guy is going to go somewhere very quick.
07:12Oh, God.
07:13You know, my day was going great and then you had to come along and kick me in the teeth
07:18like a horse.
07:19Let's talk about Colorado.
07:21I think they're in trouble in Lubbock.
07:23I thought that Texas Tech win at Aims last week was the best football game I watched.
07:27Well, they are.
07:28I'm going to tell you, Texas Tech has got them on a roll right now.
07:31Now they are a great passing team and Texas Tech's weakness is in pass defense.
07:37But I really think when you go into Lubbock and you play them right now, I think you got
07:41to roll with Texas.
07:42I think Texas Tech, they have a lot of confidence right now.
07:44They won a great game last week.
07:46And I see them beating Colorado in Texas Tech in Lubbock.
07:50I think BYU goes to Rice-Eccles and sucker punches the Utes.
07:55I think they're real average.
07:57And I think BYU is fun.
07:59No, no, BYU, yeah, BYU is the story of the year, I think, in that conference, because
08:04Utah was going to be there.
08:06They were going to be the conference contenders, a chance to play for the national championship.
08:12But it's all been about BYU.
08:13And I don't see them losing this game.
08:15This is a great rivalry.
08:17But BYU has all the momentum.
08:19And I would ride that the entire season.
08:22I would ride BYU.
08:23Obviously, Penn State is back to playing teams that they'll cover against.
08:28They can't beat good teams or highly ranked teams or Ohio State, but they can beat Washington's
08:33ass.
08:34You know, I went to West Virginia and our rival, we pitted Penn State.
08:39We just couldn't believe it.
08:41But I don't know if they'll win.
08:43I think they'll win that game.
08:44I will say this.
08:45But this is another year of Paul Thurston.
