00:00The country's Islamic jurisprudence has just been updated with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. inking of late a law mandating the creation of additional 12 Sharia courts and three judicial districts
00:13that stretch from the Ilogos region up north all the way to the Karaga and Soksarjan provinces in Mindanao.
00:20Prior to the signing of this law, only five Sharia judicial districts existed.
00:25The 1st District of Sulu Province, District 2 of Tawitawi, District 3 of Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Norte and Sur, and the cities of Pagadian and Dipolog,
00:36the 4th District covering the Lanao provinces and their capitals of Iligan and Marawi cities, and 5th District covering the Barm provinces.
00:45Sharia courts govern the customary and code of Muslim behavior but do not cover the country's criminal laws that are under the revised penal code and special penal laws.
