  • last month
The NFL preseason is about looking beyond the final score, so what did former NFL scout Bryan Broaddus see in Sunday's Cowboys/Rams matchup? He gives his analysis of the All-22 film of the game, including thoughts on rookie Tyler Guyton's performance and what he saw from QB Trey Lance.
Transcript
00:00Do you want to start off with him or do you want to start off with Trey Lance?
00:18Let's start off with Guyton.
00:19You want to start off with Guyton?
00:20Yeah.
00:21Okay.
00:22Do you have any questions about Guyton?
00:24Anything come to mind or anything before I get started?
00:28Do you have any questions about him?
00:29Yeah.
00:30How much better is he than when you first saw him at OTAs?
00:32You know what?
00:34How much better is he than when I saw him at Oklahoma?
00:37You know, that kind of thing.
00:38And that's a really, really good question, by the way.
00:42This is his very first rep that he had or the very first play that he had, he kind of
00:50went out and he kind of ducked his head.
00:52You know, he was trying to kind of lunge into the guy a little bit and maybe stop the guy's
00:59charge from him and right then and there when he ducked, it kind of threw him off
01:04balance and then all of a sudden you're seeing like, wait a minute, this is why this guy
01:09has athletic ability.
01:11So head goes down into the block, hands kind of go forward, he's a little bit top heavy,
01:17then all of a sudden it's like he realizes like, okay, I got to get out of this and he's
01:23able to kind of go forward and then sit down and then recover in the block all while the
01:30rusher is coming up the field on him.
01:33So he's trying to stop a charge, he's now overextended and it's like looking like it's
01:39going to be in bad shape and then he's able to kind of recover and get back in the block
01:44and then stay in position.
01:47He had 12 pass plays where he was involved and he only gave up no pressures in that.
01:57He was single blocking like 75% of the time.
02:01So he was just him and his guy in this one.
02:05And his run blocking, I'll tell you where he's gotten better, guys.
02:09I didn't think he was a really, really good run blocker.
02:13Maybe in space and Zach, you saw him as well.
02:16There were some questions like, okay, this guy can pass block, he's an athlete, he gets
02:19in space, you can move him around, that kind of thing.
02:23But when it comes to coming off the football, there's really a sense of urgency to his game
02:29when he comes off because it's kind of like it's like, okay, I've got to get this block,
02:35I got to get over here.
02:36I can't be lazy with my technique, can't miss with my hands.
02:42He's coming off the ball with some pop and some snap.
02:46I was sitting there when I was watching the tape, their edge there, I always jack this
02:54name up, it's Van Valkenburg is what he is, number 51.
03:00I loved every time they showed his last name on the screen.
03:04Van Valkenburg, and Van Valkenburg, when he was against anybody else, was kind of playing
03:12pretty good.
03:13He was.
03:14And then when he went against Guyton, Van Valkenburg was not a factor.
