00:00And let's begin with the latest news going on in sports.
00:02We begin on the business side here,
00:04which is really interesting,
00:05because as you may have heard by now,
00:06we've talked about it a ton of times here on the show,
00:08athletes are suing the NCAA for past indiscretions,
00:13reparations, however you want to call it.
00:15They did not get paid for years and years
00:17feeling that they should.
00:17I'm going to try to break this down
00:19as best as I can in layman's terms.
00:20So they're seeking about $2.8 billion
00:23in past due wages, revenue, et cetera.
00:27And it had looked like they had come
00:28to some sort of settlement.
00:30Now we don't know exactly what that number entails,
00:32but all of a sudden late last week,
00:34when we were on the air,
00:35plaintiffs in the NCAA lawsuit,
00:38which of course are the athletes
00:39or people representing them,
00:40are essentially saying that they want more money.
00:43They are not willing to accept a settlement in the argument.
00:47And on Thursday,
00:48attorneys and plaintiffs for this separate lawsuit
00:50concerning the Ivy League are also refusing
00:54to award athletic scholarships
00:55filed in opposition to the proposed settlement
00:58that seeks a carve out for the claims.
01:00So legalese aside, folks, here's the bottom line.
01:04Athletes want to get paid for money
01:05that they were unable to make.
01:07There's a class action lawsuit essentially,
01:09which is exceeding $2.8 billion in revenue,
01:12which at this point, the longer that it goes,
01:15they're feeling like they're owed more money.
01:17Naturally, they're seeing money being paid out
01:19in NILs, NCAA football games, et cetera.
01:22The story goes on, the legalese goes on.
01:25We'll stay tuned, we'll cover it for you here.
01:28What an incredible finish at the Wyndham Championship.
01:30Let's get over to the PGA Tour.
01:31By the way, one player just wrapped up his play
01:35at the Wyndham Championship.
01:36I gotta talk about this a little bit later in the show.
01:38The whole championship is over except for one player
01:41and he didn't even finish at the top.
01:42I'll get to it in a minute.
01:43Congratulations to Aaron Ray,
01:45ends up winning in the championship
01:48because essentially folks, he had a great day, okay?
01:53But he did not have the, I would say,
01:56the story of the tournament.
01:59I wanna get to that here in a second too.
02:01But first, of course, let's hear from the champion
02:04and Aaron Ray who ended up winning it.
02:06Yeah, I think all of those experiences
02:09are extremely valuable.
02:12It didn't mean that necessarily today
02:13was gonna go really well.
02:14It didn't mean I was gonna handle the situation today well,
02:17but there were definitely a few things
02:19that I've done well over recent weeks in that situation
02:21and things that I could have done better
02:23and felt like I did a really good job today
02:25at staying very present, very patient, and very focused.
02:30Luckily, things fell our way today.
02:33Yeah, fell his way is the way to put it.
02:35As Max Greisserman had one of those days
02:39that he'll never, ever want to remember
02:42on the golf course.
02:43Folks, he had a very significant lead
02:46going into the final nine.
02:48He three putted from less than three feet out
02:52on one of the holes and ended up giving away
02:56the Wyndham Championship.
02:57Never an easy interview to do after it happened,
03:00but here it is.
03:01Yeah, played really, really well this week.
03:05Played good enough to kind of run away with it, obviously.
03:09Stuff happens in golf that sometimes
03:11it's not meant to be sometimes.
03:12And I'm just gonna walk away that I played
03:16really, really good golf.
03:17Executed really well.
03:19Had probably a four, five shot lead.
03:23I don't even know.
03:24Four shot lead.
03:24Had a four shot lead with four, five holes to go.
03:28But if you're doing that in a PGA Tour event,
03:31you're doing something exceptionally well.
03:32So that's what I'm gonna walk away with.
03:36And also making that birdie right after making that eight.
03:40I mean, I'm gonna walk away with that.
03:41And on the next hole, pin was caught on a lot of slope.
03:46Didn't really hit terrible putts late in the day.
03:48Lipped out, you know, stuff happens.
03:51But I'm just gonna walk away with more confidence.
03:54Look at the positive things and learn from the mistakes.
03:59Don't wanna do that interview.
04:01Tough, tough interview for poor Max.
04:03But yeah, again, as he mentioned,
04:05and sort of illustrated it,
04:06and you could even hear Aaron Wright talking.
04:09Yeah, Greiserman gave this thing away.
04:12Good attitude there to have at the end,
04:13taking away the positive.
04:14But the negative was, yeah, he blew it.
04:17All right, Team USA, 40 gold medals,
04:1944 silver, 42 bronze.
04:21That's the final medal count at the Olympics in Paris.
04:24More on the Paris Olympics
04:26coming up a little bit later in the show.
04:28And then a little bit more coming up here
04:29on the U.S. Olympics in 2028 in Los Angeles.
04:32Yesterday, we had two NFL preseason games.
04:35The star for the Denver Broncos
04:37in their game yesterday was Bo Nix.
04:38First round pick looked fantastic.
04:4034 to 30 was the final there.
04:42They defeat the Indianapolis Colts.
04:44Colts always play a 1 p.m. game
04:47first weekend of the NFL preseason every single year.
04:50Didn't know that.
04:51Every single year, 1 o'clock Eastern,
04:53Colts play Sunday, first week of the NFL preseason.
04:56Tradition, like no other.
04:58Rams defeated the Cowboys 13 to 12 sets
05:00and Bennett threw four picks.
05:01We'll hear from Sean McVay coming up.
05:04The Browns are having issues getting their stadium built
05:06on the lakefront here.
05:08In a letter to team owners, D and Jimmy Haslam said Sunday
05:11that they're backing a proposed $1.2 billion renovation
05:14of the current stadium and are committed
05:16to keeping the NFL franchise in downtown Cleveland
05:18for generations to come.
05:20They were releasing videos and pictures
05:23of a potential new stadium.
05:24So stay tuned to that.
05:25We'll see how it ends up going.
05:26But there's a letter right now
05:28that's from county officials that are essentially saying
05:30that this proposal would create an unaccepted risk
05:33to the county's general fund.
05:34It can't be considered.
05:35We believe it's our responsibility
05:37and the best interest in our community
05:38to prioritize reinvestment in existing public assets.
05:43So public money, not so much.
05:46And maybe have to reconfigure the way
05:48that they're gonna build the stadium in Cleveland.
05:49We'll see.
05:50We saw this happen many years ago
05:52and the team went to Baltimore.
05:53Hopefully that doesn't happen again.
05:54All right, Texas A&M is gonna lose one of their top stars
05:57for the season, unfortunately.
05:58Reuben Owens, one of their star running backs,
06:00he's gonna miss the year after suffering
06:02a significant lower body injury.
06:04They haven't said what.
06:05This happened Saturday in a scrimmage.
06:07He was really good last year, 743 yards.
06:10He led SEC freshmen in rushing yards with 385.
06:13Their season begins Memorial Day weekend on August 31st.
06:17Max Scherzer, injured again, headed back to Texas.
06:20You gotta wonder, is this the end of the line for Texas?
06:23His right shoulder, again, causing issues.
06:25He's gonna have it looked at.
06:27Nathan Uvalde also having issues returning to Texas.
06:29Keith Meister, the doctor who looks at a lot
06:31of these athletes, is actually in Texas.
06:34That's the only good news from this.
06:35Rangers are in trouble, to say the least.
06:36How about the Diamondbacks on the other side?
06:39They've now won eight straight series.
06:40They took three or four from the Phillies.
06:42And since July 1st, the Diamondbacks, folks,
06:44they're 25 and 10.
06:45They're doing exactly what they did last year.
06:47Maybe they're gonna make a run at the World Series again.
06:49AL West race is heating up.
06:50The Astros are 62 and 55.
06:52Mariners are 63 and 56.
06:55They don't play each other until next month.
06:57Maybe that's when it will get decided.
06:59And Zebby Matthews has been called up
07:01by the Minnesota Twins.
07:03He looked really good in the minor leagues.
07:05He was the eighth-round pick out of Western Carolina.
07:07He's gonna make a start for them coming up here.
07:09The U.S. Olympic officials are appealing the story.
07:12I don't know if you heard this over the weekend.
07:13American gymnast Jordan Childs is being asked
07:16to return a bronze medal that she won
07:18at the Paris Olympics floor exercise.
07:20The CAS, which is the Court of Arbitration of Sport,
07:23voided an on-floor appeal by Childs' coach
07:27that vaulted her to third place.
07:28They said the appeal came four seconds
07:30beyond the one-minute time limit.
07:32We'll see if she has to give this back.
07:34Yikes.
07:35Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass says in 2028,
07:39if you're going to the Olympics,
07:41you're not gonna be driving a car.
07:43It's gonna be all buses.
07:44It's gonna be all public transportation.
07:47Yeah, right.
07:48Good luck with that.
07:50Also, breaking news from the Olympics in 2028.
07:53Breakdancing?
07:54Breaking?
07:55Not gonna happen, they announced this morning.
07:57I thought it was fun.
07:58I got a lot of attention on social media.
08:00They're not bringing it back for 2028.
08:02Live Golf also suspended Graham McDowell for one tournament.
08:05They also fined him over $100,000.
08:08He was using a nasal decongestant
08:10that contained a banned substance.
08:12And so he is banned from Live
08:15for trying to breathe better, essentially.
08:18That's the latest.
08:19Lot of fun stories here to start off with on the show.
